Just out of curiosity, what would you change? or how would you do it?
run on a separate button
double tap to actually do a dash in any direction (including up or down) probably give this dash I frames
light and heavy punch and kick different buttons, combo of say 1-5 lights into heavy ender basic stuff, be able to mix up kicks and punches to do different cool looking stuff
change the flow of the combos, currently you have to hit the punches super early to get the combo to come out and so you are now locked in to performing atleast 1 more so if the enemies get pushed out of hit alignment (happens alot) you whiff into the air, i would add more hitstun and hitstop which would give me ample time to see i need the next punch and press the button
special button that combined with direction gives you a special move, one could be aoe or whatever
I would not make the punch combo move enemies up or down on the plane (this is super annoying)
maybe make the hitboxes extend a bit more up or down, currently you have to be super aligned to hit the enemies and they need to be super aligned to hit you
add a grab to deal with blocking/make heavies break block
increase player walking movement speed
add i frames after breaking free of sex grab
oh and before i forget id get rid of that stupid slide thing she does at the end of a run where you cant act for 10 years jesus christ
add running moves so run actually has an offensive use
the way it is now you just spam the punch combo or maybe kicks and hope things die, if they go for a grab you beat them to it or jump, if you are grabbed and break out of it you get beaten instantly before you can leave and leaving is hard because walking is slow running is on double tap and jump is sluggish and you are still vulnerable with all of those options (many side scrolling beat em ups have aoe attacks that drain your life to use). the boss on stage one is a fucking nightmare since you cant block his attacks and your character is too fat and slow to get out of the way of them, his hitboxes are massive so you just walk up slowly and hit him probably once and he will attack and there is nothing you can do about it, if he grabs you also cant do anything.
I dont play alot of side scrolling beat em ups but I play alot of porn games, a great example of how to do it well is this game

For instance you need to fuck to regain health, you need to defeat enemies with a smoke attack to make them primed to fuck after being ko'd but these attacks are slow so you need to use physical attacks to weed out a straggler to fuck, this works because I can use throws or an attack that knocks down to separate someone or I can try to knockdown all the enemies since they stay on the ground for a while plus you can attack while they are down all of this is complemented by the movement which easily allows me to position myself in the appropriate place after i have created an advantage for myself or escape a poor situation (i think this game has double tap run, but it felt better than in onyx, in onyx i ran when i didnt want to and didnt run when i wanted to often). This game doesnt even have a block but you dont need it, its designed properly.
