[QUESTION] What about... non-canon renders from devs?

Hi F95, as my last thread sparked interesting debate - here with a new question that genuinely runs through my mind at least twice a month now. Here we go:

Why do developers, during development of their game, publish renders of their characters in wildly different contexts than the original story?

I'm asking myself this question to understand the phenomena better. There is no judgement behind it, simply a wish to understand why this happens.
Fanart seem to make more sense to me, but I'd like to understand the appeal to do this as a developer.
Please, if possible, voice your informed opinion in either the poll or a response.

Possible answers I've gotten so far are:
- As a thank you to paying Patrons
- Because they want and can (Still trying to figure out the want here)

I'm not grumpy, I'm just coded that way.

Why do developers, during development of their game, often share renders of their characters in wildly different contexts than the story when it serves not other purpose than to just be visually appealing?
Because they want and can, period.

Bro it's not that deep...
Because they want and can, period.
Fair enough, and that should be enough of an answer as well. I've deleted the poll and will broaden the original question. I'm still trying to learn why it is they would want to.

I should probably add that I don't mean to pass judgement on it - I'm simply interested in learning more about why it happens. :giggle:

They are valid, I would do them as request on a patreon tier. But of course, certain limits apply.

And pray that, somehow, those NTR renders that AREN'T in the game does not leak to the other players or face the rage because, suddenly, a non-canon render ruins the whole game for an NTR... that doesn't exist in the game.

That sounds awful, honestly. Are there examples where non-canonical renders have impacted the view of the original game? I never even thought of that possibility... Thanks for sharing!

I can't remember the dev or his game's name, I remember someone in the dev's forum mentioned that ages ago. It got stuck in my mind somehow. Someone here must know a case like this, where the dev made a non-canon render for a petition of a single person on his high tiers, and it was a NTR one. And somehow it leaks and the anti NTR rage is on full swing... because a non-canon render.

Somehow, we should be careful with non-canon renders because they may leak, and well... hell may break loose. I don't do those because my game is real porn+ text based, but I had to write optional scenes as requests from patreons, so it's kinda the same. There's a rule that, if I don't like it, it doesn't get done so I still retain some control over it.

I have done some for Patrons, either for winning a contest, or due to tier perks. But I also get a wild hair up my ass at times, and get an idea, which won't fit into the game, but I want to see how it will look. Sometimes I share these. Personally I will do it just from needing a break from a scene I am making, and to clear my head. There are quite a few reasons why I would make them, and sometimes, if I think they look good, I will show them off.

Sometimes it's just fun to do something different than the game we spend multiple dozens of hours on every week.

See, this is why I just let people vote on characters instead of what the render actually is. I've already been asked for some f'ed up shiz, I ain't giving people an avenue to ask for more. :ROFLMAO:
