Hey guys, sorry for not getting back to you timely. Thanks for taking the time to respond, there are some great insights into your responses!
I can't remember the dev or his game's name, I remember someone in the dev's forum mentioned that ages ago. It got stuck in my mind somehow. Someone here must know a case like this, where the dev made a non-canon render for a petition of a single person on his high tiers, and it was a NTR one. And somehow it leaks and the anti NTR rage is on full swing... because a non-canon render.
Somehow, we should be careful with non-canon renders because they may leak, and well... hell may break loose. I don't do those because my game is real porn+ text based, but I had to write optional scenes as requests from patreons, so it's kinda the same. There's a rule that, if I don't like it, it doesn't get done so I still retain some control over it.
Gotcha, that sounds like a really sticky situation. Glad you're sticking to what you like - in honesty, no one knows the game better than you do, so who would know what the game could need better? Conceptually, you're the god to the game.

I don't understand why people get so worked up over specific situations. For example - I don't have the incest festish many people seem to have, so I wade through a lot of games playing up that relationship. But there's no need to go complain about it being there. If a developer wants to render that, that's her or his prerogative.
The other day, I reviewed 'The Point Of No Return' and the game took a really dark turn with
slavery, involuntary penetration and molestation. Now I can appreciate some gore in select situations (Mortal Kombat), but this was a bit too much for me. But if the dev wants that, that's alright. So good on you and good on you for sticking to that, surely you can make the game a collaboration but you should never bank on the original vision for your product.
See, this is why I just let people vote on characters instead of what the render actually is. I've already been asked for some f'ed up shiz, I ain't giving people an avenue to ask for more.
First off, I love the name btw. Really? So what kind of stuff was asked that didn't fit in the original story? I'm seeing a lot of incest nowadays and an enormous harted for Netrorare. Tsundere characters seem to be popular, while Yandere seems to be on the decline. Never thought I'd see feces play in a game, but definitely came across that some time. Also the fantasy of being abducted and taken advantage of.. It's a wild world out there. So what are things you came across?
I have done some for Patrons, either for winning a contest, or due to tier perks. But I also get a wild hair up my ass at times, and get an idea, which won't fit into the game, but I want to see how it will look. Sometimes I share these. Personally I will do it just from needing a break from a scene I am making, and to clear my head. There are quite a few reasons why I would make them, and sometimes, if I think they look good, I will show them off.
Ah, so you offer them as prizes or bonuses for your patrons too. I figured all of the reasons I originally put up on the opening post could fit. Since starting in this world and reviewing, I've learned that creating a proper VN takes an ungodly amount of time. So it only makes sens that you'd want to try something different with your characters instead of doing the same thing again. It might be an idea that doesn't fit or something you just want to try, I understand now.
Sometimes it's just fun to do something different than the game we spend multiple dozens of hours on every week.
Thanks for your response! Yeah, I can totally relate to that. My original question came from the understand that 'every render takes a lot of work to do' - so at first it seems counterintuitive to 'take on more work' for something that takes so much work. But since, I've learned that a lot of devs are very talented and can whip up renders quite fast.
It's probably a great way to explore ideas for something as well, so it makes sense to work on them. And if you do, it also makes sense to show them off - either just for responses or maybe even to test the water and see what people are into lately. It's definitely a tool, but for the longest time I felt like devs were setting themselves up for more work by doing so. All the responses have taught me that it's actually helpful to do so, as long as your patrons and players understand that it's not a part of the story.
One of the reasons may be that they can't fit that scene into the game's story, but they still want to attract that type of audience.
For example, pregnancy
It's not easy to fit it into the plot in a good way, unless it's an end game, but a lot of people like to see it, so even if it's not officially added, it will keep that audience satisfied and make them continue on Patreon, playing, etc.
Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about that. That makes sense as well. But wouldn't that break the characters' immersion? Well, they're characters after all, so who cares really? I know a lot of devs create fantasy 'Christmas' situations for their characters as celebrations, so it's probably something like that.
At some point, I played games that had 100+ extra/non-canon renders in a gallery. I sat there stunned, because there were all kinds of undeveloped side stories and opportunities in there. It might be the writer in me, but I actually grieved for the potential lost there. Then again, as a developer you can only do so much, right? Thanks for that insight as well, I love reading all answers here.
