Nah, it's been that way for hundreds of years over there, as I understand it "modern" censorship didn't really kick in until they got stomped in the war and the European stock started staying in the country.
Like all monopolies, Patreon's strangle hold on censorship will only last for so long. You think Patreon is the first to try bringing/forcing society back to an age where a woman exposing her ankles is considered nudity? They'll eventually fail, like all the others before them, and just like others after. It sucks to deal with now, but it's not going to be like this forever.
