I don't like the grinding either, just to me the freeroam is a waste, because you can go to the stories page and play the story. So yeah making it a straight VN would be better.
I guess I want to understand; what has been added in this update? Or, is this the public release of Eleanor's route?

I'm not the most patient when it comes to freeroam/sandboxy stuff, if something isn't instantly clear I tend to give up.
While finding the stories was easy enough, I couldn't find Eleanors. It wasn't with the rest of the story stuff so I gave up.
Could probably make that easier to spot for others in the future, maybe.

The answer is obviously YES and you already answered why in the rest of your statement. I played the previous updates (not this one yet) but I also felt at the time that the various family scenes you experienced in the house during freeroam were merely for flavor and felt rather useless since the entire plot exists in a world outside of the home.
If there was an entire world map with other POI's that you would visit, that might work with the story. In that scenario, you would travel to different locations and satisfy different story objectives while also viewing house events at stages along the way. Maybe then it would make more sense.
But as you know, the game you created doesn't work like that. At this point, you would be very well served by turning this into a straightforward visual novel.
I could be wrong, but you would probably find very few people who prefer the freeroam elements as they are.
Change it now, please!

Also, separate from the discussion about the freeroam aspects, was there any new story content in this update? The Eleanor stuff was from the previous update so what was actually new in this one?
It seemed like a change to the freeroam navigation including clicking on a map icon to then see text boxes instead of an actual map - which is super weird, btw. Other than that, I cannot tell what else is new.
EDIT: Reading the updated changelog on the OP it seems like all of the updates happened it past content... so for people who already played those segments, they have to go back and replay them to see the changes? Why did you do that?
Okay, so if you are going to revisit old content, might as well have us start over with a visual novel that gets rid of the confusing freeroam vs timed scene (re)play for actual story content. The whole thing feels even more weird and confusing than before.
Constructive Criticism:
- Sandbox out of nowhere is jarring. Why?
- Sandbox without any indication of what needs to happen is terrible. You need a quest guide IN GAME. I spent way too long going to random places and it gets annoying repeating events that lead nowhere. If the event exists it should only trigger once or show some kind of indicator that you are making progress of "love" points or something. It leads to me FF the text and it's not enjoyable. I literally gave up playing because I have no idea if I am making progress.
- Art is great but all of the women are way too similar. I can't tell them apart. Different haircuts is not enough. If the theme is "Raven" haired family, great. But they do not all need to have the same color eyes or styles. Hair can also be dyed, so, even if they were born with Black hair, dye exists. Clothes can also be another color.
The new content is at their house, where they appear after 18:00 I believe.
The scenes are in Eleanor's bedroom late evening/night.

Can anyone explain to me what to do? All that seems available is cycling through the day at the family home and the aunts' house and flirting with sundry scantily dressed relatives. I see mention of 'stories' here and I have no idea how to get them. I also see a bunch of other locations on the 'map', all of them apparently inaccessible. Thanks!

Look where you circled the prologue. Then read the box right next to it. Took me a while too, you have to wait till the right time of day, then come back to this screen and the next box will be clickable.
