Red Swallow isn't a visual novel.



The swallows will indeed swallow and just about everything else. Whatever "Mother Russia" requires.

I'm not Russian, in fact I'm not from the FSU at all.

My Patreon is pretty much the same as everyone else's and "Cherry-picking" the first part of the statement to make me look greedy is a douche-bag's trick. Especially from a game developer.

The calorie calculations use the Basal metabolic rate for a 22 year old male. The calculations for the various exercises were cross referenced with multiple sources before being added to the game. If there is a bug in the system please let me know and I will look into it :)

The game engine is 90% done so I will be adding content fairly quickly. I'll be working on finishing the non-story content for Natalia and Ilona first.

If anyone has any questions I'm always happy to answer them, although I don't spend a lot of time here day by day. For more regular conversation there is a link to the discord on the Patreon page.

The pitch was interesting... but the gameplay...
I'm a cool guy generaly, and I accept a certain amount of grind. But, if I have to take several hours just to find how play a game, I prefer pass.

Sorry, but I have no fun with this game who seemed promising. Don't count on me for the future :pensive:

This might be a Visual Novel and to that end, needs a visual novel tag on the thread.
It's not a visual novel. Their is minimal plot/story (at least at this stage).
Renders are ok, gameplay is pretty typical of this kind of rpg, a bit grindy.

A few critical responses seem overly harsh considering its first beta level release
The amount of time and effort that's been put in to date seems as if the dev is serious with this project unlike 95%+ of the devs who quit. I like the UI, its functional and simple to use so no idea what the fuss is about on that point. Renders are excellent, so what if one NPC is a little cross eyed, if she was training firearms it could be an issue but otherwise....

New and interesting project which isn't following the done to death current trend of dead parents so move to a new city to live with super model relations all of which are mindless drones open to incestuous sex so gets a thumbs up from me.

Look forward to seeing more.

$5k/month is not just to survive though. He did say that it means he can survive doing this full time, get extra help, and also updates every 2 weeks instead of monthly.

So basically $5k/month means he can just focus on the game and not have to worry about anything else, which in theory means that making games becomes his one real job. This sounds pretty reasonable considering that it's the final goal.

I have to agree with what Domiek said. The lady on the banner looks cross-eyed and weird. It really isn't a good representation of your game, since anyone who's played it knows that you are capable of doing such great renders.

Also I don't think he was "cherry-picking" to make you look greedy. I think it was simply the wording that made it come out weird on your end. That you would need 5k to "survive"...............Among these other things. You might want to consider rephrasing that.

I think he actually made a very valid point with the "word in credit" bit as well. You said that your Patreon is pretty much the same as everyone else's. That may be true, but the "name in credits" is usually done at a MUCH lower tier. So him pointing out that 40$ is a bit too much is something I'd have to agree with. Other than that, the Patreon looks good. Might want to add more to it, like for example images of your game and also explaining the plot and game mechanics.

And having a wiki at such a early stage also seems a bit weird.

Overall impression: Gameplay wise, it's not really my cup of tea. The UI is not really appealing to me either. It's very confusing to know what you're supposed to click. Also why don't you have a preference menu? It's a RenPY game right. I'd like to be able to press CTRL to skip through certain dialouges if I'm replaying the game. So why is it gone?

The renders however are very solid.

So I wish you good luck with the game!

i just give my point of view of various things i consider exaggerated. i didnt meant to make you look greedy.. i just give an clear opinion about what multiples peoples will probably think when looking at the patreon page.

Good Morning!

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate any and all comments, it helps me keep track of what's working and what isn't.

I understand the game will feel a bit empty at the moment but v0.0.01 was always intended as a "taster" to give people an idea of how the game mechanics will work and so on. The new update has added a reasonable amount of content for Ilona, (well as much as I could achieve in a week anyway). I will spend the next couple of weeks adding content for her and adding a few more mechanics in and prettying up the character info screen.

I started the wiki already because I have watched enough threads to know that it wont be long before people started asking for a walk-through. Since this is a fairly "sandboxy" game a walk-through isn't really going to work but giving as much info on what to do is important.

Just to give a bit more clarity for anyone who is new. The ui is contextual and "dynamic"
  • the right hand bar will open up when the mouse is hovered over the right side of the screen. This bar contains the location specific actions such as eating in the cafeteria and training in the gym.
  • The left bar also opens when the mouse is hovered over the left side of the screen and contains the navigation menu as well as the Character screen toggle. I may add a button to the character screen itself to close it as It might feel a little clunky having to open the left bar.
  • The bottom bar is the character interaction bar and shows actions available for the character that you currently have selected. The difference between "Chat" and "Talk" in this menu is that "Chatting" is a quick action which offers nine possible topics of conversation and will affect how much the character likes you. "Talking" opens up the dialogue menu which will show you and story dialogues which you are currently available. This will become more important in future updates
  • The top bar shows the players name, the Date and Time and contains the buttons to hide characters from the screen and to advance time by an hour.
  • Every room will also have items which are clickable. Currently this is only in "My Room" but will eventually cover all. The main function of this will become more apparent in future updates but for now, clicking on the bed will allow you to sleep for six hours and regain some energy. In the next update I will allow the player to choose how long to sleep for and the energy recovery will change dependent on that.
With regard to the new sex training.

The Player must demonstrate to the instructor that he is competent in four areas with each partner (this number may be more or less depending on certain factors) these unlock sequentially once the instructor is happy that the MC is proficient enough. Once all actions have unlocked and been carried out successfully with one partner, the next one unlocks. Once all 4 "introductory" partners are completed, the player needs to find characters willing to volunteer to be his training partner, once their stats are high enough the MC can ask them to train in the boudoir with him and they will be available in the sex training menu. In either v0.0.03 or v0.0.04 This content will be added for Natalia. The mechanics are all in place I just need time to add the content, but first I need to finish with Ilona.

i for one like cross-eyed dames..so do NOT fix that :p also..i like Dev's who regularily interact with the players and give heads ups and listen to gripes critiques and such and do their best to reply intelligently..thats something that will keep me playing a game and give it a chance to show its mettle .

- Saving takes Way to long (20-40sec) There is no Problem/such long Delay in other Games.
- I miss an Overwiew for the Girls where i can see how much Affinity i've got with them.
- The Character Screen/Calories, i don't get it. Seems useless.
- Jazz Lounge: I can't do anything, Submissin/Subterfuge don't work (Not implemented right now?)
- Communal Shower: I CAN'T TAKE A SHOWER!! Disgusting :p
- Rec Room: Nothing to do
- Activities: How about to "grey out" Things you can`t do, if you know what i mean.

I get it, the Game is still in (early) Progress but why showing Rooms and Actions i can't use? (see Point above)

That reminds of a game I played recently (can't remember its name). I played for around 1 hour trying to figure out what to do at certain locations. After that 1 hour, I noticed someone mentioning in a forum that those rooms don't have anything implemented yet. So I just wasted 1 hour, trying to figure out something that should have been clear from the start.

So yea, I have to agree with your point about not showing useless rooms/features. I'm all for showing upcoming features, but make it clear that they haven't been implemented yet. Cause there's nothing more annoying than not knowing when you've seen all of the games content, but still think that there's more to be seen.

I think most people understand that the game is still in early development. So don't be afraid to limit the game to its actual content. You can hype people up by graying out and locking certain areas, that way players know what you plan to implement. However if you don't do that, then the players will feel disappointed rather than hyped, knowing that there's noting to do in that area.

  • Save times aren't a priority at the moment. I will investigate later in the development.
  • The Intuition stat will eventually allow MC to be able to see certain information about the character he has selected such as affinity and conversational preferences. I will try to get this into the next update.
  • Calories will have a role to play in future. At the moment they serve no purpose but i needed to put the mechanics in place.
