Here is a thing I never thought I'd be writing again, but I'm sure happy I am!

I've got a copy of the new release and have done a very, very, rough content review (checking for new scenes in UnityExplorer). I have a general idea of what the new content is. The next step is image and dialogue extraction, which will give me a better scope and context of what will go where.

As I make progress, this post will get updated, along with bigger progress reports when I hit major milestones or reach the end of work for the day. This update will be much faster than the slow-ass epilogue (which won't be part of the r4.1 release), and at most should take me no more than a week to do (unless it turns out to be absolutely massive, but I don't think that is the case).

I'm not sure what to do about the completed status for the game, as it still has an ending and is completed, there are just more parts, maybe? So for now I'm just gonna leave it as is (unless a site mod tells me to change it).

So in the event you one day have to redo parts, or possibly the whole, ending you wrote based on what Ferdaf releases, what are your early guesses on how you might handle it? Or is that a little too soon to speculate on

Part of why I've never been interested in making scenes past the latest release content (other than having to draw them) is this exact issue, having scenes in conflict. Best case would be I can leave it all as-is and don't have to change anything in the conclusion. Worst case, I have to throw it all away, but I don't think that is very likely (and even if I had no other option than to remove the ending, I'd still keep the content in the game somehow, I wouldn't "remove" remove it).

At the moment, all I can do is speculate, because we are talking future content of from Ferdafs, which could literally be anything or nothing. That's pretty hard to plan for.

If I had to guess (and I do) I think most likely to change will be the interaction between Space Beth and Morty. When I started the ending, we only had 1 scene with them, which is hard to have any idea what direction that story would take. I already have a "plan/alternate" in mind, but obviously I don't know what things might change in the future.

My main objective in new content from Ferdafs will be to fit the new scenes to the current story/ending where possible (something I've been doing the whole project already), rather than change the ending. I most likely can't write around every curve ball, but I'm sure gonna try.

Do you worry Ferdafs plan is to have the game be a 'forever' product?

There are some devs who have no intention of making a proper ending to their games, they would rather have a source of constant revenue over risking losing patrons with a new game.

Worry? No! That would be awesome! Then you guys get an ending, and I get new hot rick and morty content forever! Best of both worlds!

I can't promise I'll work on this project forever, but that is a future me problem.

First major milestone hit!

I've extracted all the dialogue, all the new images, all the new video. I've looped/exported the video animations. And I just finished the slicing process for all the images (only a very few needed some hand edits, the rest worked with no issue).

So, now it's onto scene implementation (posing all the characters, putting in the static images and animations). In total just over 1000 lines of dialogue. About every 100 lines takes me around an hour~ish to do. So, roughly 10ish hours of work to get it all put together? And maybe another 5ish for testing, building. Then 5ish for uploading :x

My best guess would be Jun 15th? Possibly sooner. As always will post progress reports as I have milestones to share.

Hey Mirror I know you are not the op, but ya did and do this project heavy lifting, can I give ya money, please say yes
I am the op (original poster) of this thread and the main dev working on the renpy game/mod/remake/whatever. But, I assume you mean the od (original dev (no, od sounds bad)) of the Unity game, which is Ferdafs.

In the OP of this thread, in the FAQ is the below, which is still true:

Can I give you money?
Nope. Please support the original dev if you want to give someone money, that’s the only way this game will get more content.

Ha! The legend is back in full force. Nothing like an actual update to light a fire in you and lightning in your veins, eh? I eagerly await the next update as always. I'll never stop being behind this game.

the fact that you work so promptly after these large hiatuses from Ferdafs... I know you always say you have your own thing, this is not your main focus and I understand. At the same time, I wonder what you could do if you didn't depend on someone else's development cycle. You have gained a lot of experience in the narrative aspect and just in general with Renpy.
I am kinda rambling but what I am trying to get at is that your potential as a Game Dev (and not just a modder) is clearly something that all of us see and would love to see it realised (speaking about myself obviously). In any case, you do inspire a lot of us to work on things, even if we don't say it all the time.

Just wanted to give you props for all the work you do and the attitude that you show, which is very refreshing (not asking for money, remaining motivated after long periods of time, providing an end for the fans...). Anyway, hats off

I am kinda rambling but what I am trying to get at is that your potential as a Game Dev
I can sort of give a direct comparison why modding is my main choice vs full development, using this game as an example. I've been making painfully slow progress on the epilogue for 5~ish months. It's not not even fully written yet. I'm struggling with the artwork, and finding anything else to put my focus towards. In short, I'm not really enjoying nor am I motivated by the development process at all (maybe on a team, where I was just coding stuff, I'd enjoy that, but not the solo dev life).

In contrast, here is a content update from Ferdafs, where I only have to do limited writing (to make the new scenes work in the context of the renpy game (and... "fix" some sentence structure I don't like (plus the usual incest things))), and make very little to no art (I wouldn't call drawing blinks "art" (not sure if I will need any images for this one)). This update is going to take me... 2~3 days? Not weeks or months.

To me, the modding process is fun. I do it for the same reason people play games or binge watch shows (while, maybe not the same reason people play porn games, I'm not coding with one hand and jacking it with the other (usually)). It's (one of many) reasons I'm not interested in taking payment for this, it's for fun. It's something I enjoy (well, the mod part, not the make part), and money changes that relationship with the project and the players.
