that is overkill holy shit, have you tried profiles 4, 5, 6? personally I can't see any difference in quality and sizes barely differ, but take significantly less time to encode, do you add fast-decode=2 tho? assuming you're using svt-av1

The exact settings inside each presets of svt-av1 have been changing a lot between each releases.
The current latest version is 3.0.2 and to me the preset 6 is already looking not good.
(handbrake has 2.3.0 in current latest version)
But I agree preset 1 is an overkill, I'm more happy with preset 3's balance between quality and speed (as in version 3.0.2)
Although I say preset 6 looking not good, the artifacts are not very noticeable unless you pause the video.

And FWIW, handbrake uses "tune=0" by default. It says "None" but actually, in svt-av1, tune 0 means VQ (visual quality), tune 1 means PSNR (tuned for higher objective score but not visually good), SSIM is another objective metric.
Really tune VQ is the only one you should use, in real world use cases. But the default one in svt-av1 is PSNR.
So, if you are planning to use FFmpeg, you should add "-svtav1-params tune=0" in the options.

I don't usually do re-encoding let alone AV1, I mostly keep original video, I don't know why but I still test encoders

I'd say the default 35 is a good middle point, adjust from that for higher or lower quality, with higher resolution the higher value might be more tolerable.
Maybe don't go below 30. AV1 has a hard time reaching higher quality when given more bitrate, it's optimized for small size.

I'd go higher if I had to, but it doesn't get in the way of anything. And at most it's 4 hours iirc. Rinhee doesn't take long, but Nyakumi does.

Still, I can play Dota and browse the web just fine. If I play Marvel Rivals I pause, otherwise if it's a higher quality (even if I can't see it) I don't mind the added time. But maybe I'll go to preset 2 just to save on some hours here or there.

Yeah, I'll encode it soon. I'll update and throw in a new link for my collection when I'm done. Including Mogador.

I had a few more MP4's and re-encoded them to MKV, but I guess I missed one. No plans on re-encoding rn though.
