As long as it's in the same folder (or even a "subs" sub-folder), and has the same name as the video it's subbing (keep the SRT file extension though), you should have no issues. If you're on something like VLC, you may need to enable the subs track n on the subs (Subtitle -> Sub Track -> [select the right sub track])
