I'm not very technically savvy but I believe that expanded version saves only work for the expanded version and that remains true for whatever version you may be using. You can always try to load saves from different versions and see what happens but I believe it won't work or if it does it will create a game riddled with errors. Might be wrong though so could be worth at least a try.

Nope, the version expanded is on was previus to a major overhaul oni did, it is incompatible with current versions.
