People that are smarter than me mentioned some kind of general Ren'Py list of settings that you can get into.
Press and hold the shift key while starting the program and a menu will come up. You can adjust settings from there. For me it's usually the video settings.

what settings are best for nvidia GPU's? some of the video renderer's end up crashing on me after a time too.
All I can say is start over and change settings again. Disable gamepad if you don't have one, make other changes. Just write down the original ones first if you need to restore them.

Niko Knows Tech youtuber has a short video on how to remove the bloat of nvidia installers and just install the part that you want/need lss you install 2 free apps, 1 completely uninstalls video drivers and everything associated, 2nd one creates the custom 'package' for nvidia and installs it
[for example i went from having 11 nvidia processes to 2 one being the classic nvidia control panel it freed up some ram, gpu and cpu usage and eliminated 2 consistent crashes i get, wholly unrelated to renpy but you never know] the uninstaller can uninstall intel and amd stuff too.

you're mistaking what i'm talkin' about. Only RLE crashes for me depending on which renderer I use, hence why I'm using the current one which doesn't crash & I don't remember atm which one it was. My asking for advice was which rendered, when selected in Ren'py or the game itself is bein' played.
I don't have issues with my GPU or the software related because I already do what you suggest with something else.
