I really dont understand all the hate towards the newer games, while the older ones are not much better.
The ones I know and played are:
Sexy Beach: 2, 3, Zero, Premium Resort
Artificial Girl: 3, AI (yes, I slot AI-Shoujo in here, for obvious reasons.)
Artificial Academy: 1, 2
Real Kanojo
Playclub and PlayHome
Honey Select 1,2
Koikatsu 1, 2
Roomgirl (trial)
Lets go through them, one by one:
Sexy Beach:
Small improvements from release to release, and a mess with Premium Resort.
Premium Resort still is the most interesting one in terms of gameplay from all of the ones I played, even though it is very limited. (The earlier Sexy Beach games were more or less "scene selectors" with some clothing options.)
Artificial Girl:
AG3 can not even remotely compete with AI in terms of gameplay, even though I hold no grudge against AG3.
In the end, you had a bunch of girls running around on that small city map with not much else to do besides shagging them - relatively similar to Koikatsu nowadays, just simpler and older.
Artificial Academy:
Koikatsu with more dialogue options and npc-interactions, but far fewer H-options - that goes for both of them. Its ok, but nothing too special in my opinion.
Does not really have a sucessor, Koikatsu certainly is not the one.
Real Kanojo:
lets just skip that one, not much to say about it.
Playclub and similar games (includes the Honey Select games):
Scene scelectors wit superficial "story", my favorite still is playhome, even over HS2 etc.
Nothing special, can just play AI Shoujo instead.
Koikatsu:
The game that doesnt know if it wants to be Artificial Academy or AG3, it is a mix of both. The gameplay is closer to AG3 than it is to AA2, but the graphics is closer to AA2 than AG3.
KKS is more of a "sidestep" from the original KK, not much improvement, kinda boring, but tons of mods.
Roomgirl:
Finally something new, something that I can not immediately put into one of the "typical illusion game" categories.
Yes, it recycles AIS and HS2 assets, but that is a good thing in the end, since we all know what happens when illusion starts from scratch. (See "Sexy Beach Premium Resort" for that.)
We also got tons of character cards, which are all compatible.
Clothing mods from AIS and HS2 will just work, just as you could copy KK clothing mods into KKS folder and they just worked.
This looks more promising than any new "Scene Selector" aka Honey Select ever could, almost as if there was some gameplay and interaction in the game.

People should be glad that Illusion recycles what they have so much, because it makes players and modders life a lot easier.
"In the old days" every new release was a reset in terms of mods, and in general the mods were causing more trouble than they did help.
Everything they recycle, they dont need to invest time in, which is time they can spend on other things, like gameplay.
