I remember AA2 you could have rape without needing a DLC like KK. Also it wasn't restricted to a single voice and location and you needing the janitor to help. AA2 had vanilla, ntr, cheating, rape, yuri, and more. KK only had vanilla and harem.

Was going to get hyped, till I remember its Illusion. Going to wait and see. Especially since it'll no doubt be another vanilla experience with harems and shit.
They should have home, workplace and a neutral place (that is other people workplace) for date but I fear there won't be transition, they will teleport from place to another.

Uh, it seems that other workplaces are only accessible by a new save game, I guess. Tho, they do have other date places like a restaurant, church or a cassino. And the people from the other save games seem to interact with people from current save when you go out and have fun. But, uh... It's just that... Their announcement is too damn vague to tell. lol idk... Maybe it's not a save game, maybe it's just a menu to switch places or maybe we have a 2D map where we can click to visit new places.

Edit: You click on the door. A "Travel" menu appears where you can click on the name of the place you want to go, then there is a loading screen and you will appear there. So, no 2D map of the city, you actually have to scroll through a list of names to teleport.

We all remember why DoA Xtreme did not get EU/US release on PS4...
Illusion didn't make games in English or ship games to the US because of Rapelay. Three years after its initial release (4/2006), the game garnered international attention and controversy for its content, resulting in it being banned in several countries. This all being caused by a group of U.S. old maids with nothing better to do than ruin our good times. Illusion announced they would no longer offer any products in english or to the US and stuck to their guns until 2021 when they started putting games on Steam.

this. And ever since RL drama, illusion had been holding back on their darker contents. The last one was playhome I believe, with KK darkness being a total joke (oh you rape me, opps its just a prank so it's consensual). Bye to the good old days when illusion was daring enough to make games like Biko

Making your first world wide release a game where you rape girls is a pretty dumb move. It could be Sexy Beach, Artificial Girl or Artificial Academy at worst, but no it had to be the rape game.

That feature is something that I had been looking forward to doing in previous titles. But due to how limited the system was the only way was to create your base hair with bald + accessories, then make a different set per outfit which is a pain. Imagine having to do that for 30+ characters screw that I just gave up.

This is something "innovative" they finally add to their game after.. how many titles had past? Since AA2/A.I shoujo?

people like to dream, that why many of them got fooled into the empty promises of patreon developers
Well spoken. For example look at the "LifePlay game". Where the developer has literally become a mediocre modder who only adds bugs in to the game after every update while barely add and improve game features, meanwhile milking that patreon money for years and so on...

I don't recall RapeLay being released worldwide, like their older titles. It could be the HongFire boys back in the day that makes it extremely notorious.

also their true first worldwide release is Honey Select 1 after they made a partnership(?) with FAKKU under the name Honey Select Unlimited and then they started to do it on their own, starting with KK Party

I don't know if I'm the minority here but to me the appeal of Illusion games is the studio and character maker where you can make whatever character/scene you want easier than stuff like blender or daz, I never ever cared about the gameplay and I thought it was more like a tech demo than anything.

Gameplay used to be their main forte though with fixed characters, that's why alot of people have expectations. Back then Artificial girl was the dream, people were hoping for an upgrade to the series. It later turned into games like AA, Koikatsu, A.I or whatever games that all came with their own character creators but there wasn't much innovation with gameplay anymore. They just kept pumping out the same reused assets and milking costumes and voice pack dlcs with the same subpar gameplay and animations. Game companies are considered in tech industry as well, the moment they stop innovating they turn stale.

What people enjoy with studio and creator ended up being worked on by modders anyway, not illusion themself. Also for alot of these games, the creator is the tech demo lol

I really dont understand all the hate towards the newer games, while the older ones are not much better.

The ones I know and played are:

Sexy Beach: 2, 3, Zero, Premium Resort
Artificial Girl: 3, AI (yes, I slot AI-Shoujo in here, for obvious reasons.)
Artificial Academy: 1, 2
Real Kanojo
Playclub and PlayHome
Honey Select 1,2
Koikatsu 1, 2
Roomgirl (trial)

Lets go through them, one by one:

Sexy Beach:
Small improvements from release to release, and a mess with Premium Resort.
Premium Resort still is the most interesting one in terms of gameplay from all of the ones I played, even though it is very limited. (The earlier Sexy Beach games were more or less "scene selectors" with some clothing options.)

Artificial Girl:
AG3 can not even remotely compete with AI in terms of gameplay, even though I hold no grudge against AG3.
In the end, you had a bunch of girls running around on that small city map with not much else to do besides shagging them - relatively similar to Koikatsu nowadays, just simpler and older.

Artificial Academy:
Koikatsu with more dialogue options and npc-interactions, but far fewer H-options - that goes for both of them. Its ok, but nothing too special in my opinion.
Does not really have a sucessor, Koikatsu certainly is not the one.

Real Kanojo:
lets just skip that one, not much to say about it.

Playclub and similar games (includes the Honey Select games):

Scene scelectors wit superficial "story", my favorite still is playhome, even over HS2 etc.
Nothing special, can just play AI Shoujo instead.

Koikatsu:

The game that doesnt know if it wants to be Artificial Academy or AG3, it is a mix of both. The gameplay is closer to AG3 than it is to AA2, but the graphics is closer to AA2 than AG3.
KKS is more of a "sidestep" from the original KK, not much improvement, kinda boring, but tons of mods.

Roomgirl:
Finally something new, something that I can not immediately put into one of the "typical illusion game" categories.
Yes, it recycles AIS and HS2 assets, but that is a good thing in the end, since we all know what happens when illusion starts from scratch. (See "Sexy Beach Premium Resort" for that.)

We also got tons of character cards, which are all compatible.
Clothing mods from AIS and HS2 will just work, just as you could copy KK clothing mods into KKS folder and they just worked.

This looks more promising than any new "Scene Selector" aka Honey Select ever could, almost as if there was some gameplay and interaction in the game.

_______________________________________

People should be glad that Illusion recycles what they have so much, because it makes players and modders life a lot easier.
"In the old days" every new release was a reset in terms of mods, and in general the mods were causing more trouble than they did help.

Everything they recycle, they dont need to invest time in, which is time they can spend on other things, like gameplay.

they do used to make a story-driven game, like Musumakeup and Happy End Trigger (which is known to be horrible in terms of performance for some reason) and then they gradually shift things up with a fine balance between repetitive-ish gameplay and story like Schoolmate (particularly 2) and Harem Mate.

But at the of the day, Japanese porn game dev like Illusion and KISS (at least those two are the biggest and mostly known) make this stuff so people can fap to the "gameplay" of this game, whereas Studio and stuff like that is supposedly a supplementary feature, meaning that in their market Studio (or anything similar to it, like Custom Maid scene maker thing) doesn't really have big impact on the overall product. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good addition, but I'm sure it wasn't as important as the core game itself.

Also

They just kept pumping out the same reused assets and milking costumes and voice pack dlcs with the same subpar gameplay and animations.
this is quite obvious imo. They do this to cut cost, since we all know developing games like that requires a heckin' lot money so asset flip happens almost all the time for them, except voice packs (sometimes, I'll tell you why*). Every seiyuu will always be different unless I see Misonoo Mei on the list again LMFAO. and speaking of costumes, wait until you see what KISS is doing for the past 7 years. collab after collab after collab, to the point they have so many costume, idk how many dollars ya gotta spend for that.

*this happens when you're actually just starting out or completely an independent development studio who doesn't have 5-to-6-figure cash in your safe, since I do believe one recording session with hefty amount of lines on the script can cost you one grand (for one person alone) at the lowest up to 10k dollars just for the voiceover. This can be covered if you have Patreon, Fantia, SubscribeStar or even Ci-En (if you're planning to sell your games on DLSite)
