I appreciate the feedback, thank you. In the next release, I am shortening the length of the first battle and making that fight in the castle a little easier. I do want the game to be challenging like a classic RPG, but I did admittedly scale the castle fight for having two characters in the party, so I'll think about what might help balance things best in the single-character party path.
Actually the fight was fine with just Sadie, I think the one with 5 opponents was a bit rough, but overall it's doable.

Having that Goblin would probably make it a walk in the park, maybe you should have the little guy removed before we get there so you can balance this fight properly.

I wouldn't say so, it's probably the toughest part of the game already, no?

Tell me the reference to the school of Athens in the banner is deliberate!
I know it's strange, considering it's a porn game but i'm curious why sadie is making the famous Plato pose when the other girl is making the Aristotle one ^^

Anyways it's a strange way of being hook by a game, it's probably just a fun reference but it work for me : )

Haha. It is 100% intentional.

I'm taking major liberties with the picture, knowing that it represents the debate between Plato and Socretes regarding ideal forms vs the concrete world of example. But here's my twist on it.

Sadie is pointing up because she's focused on the ideal, trying to live a good life the best she can (particularly in a world whose mores are wildly different from what she grew up with), and attempting to evolve a consistent moral code along the way. Ellanon (the succubus on the right) believes that civilization sits on a knife's edge against chaos and is vested in protecting that civilization, particularly her kingdom, against all threats. For her, ideals that do not directly serve this aim are counterproductive and can even be dangerous when they prevent necessary but distasteful action. I try not to beat anybody over the head too hard with these two philosophical stances (or those of any other character), but I do try to keep them in mind when writing scenes and the debate does show up in various ways, including some in the forthcoming Act II.

In case the risk of accidental exposure to philosophy might scare anyone off, don't worry: there are many boobs and lots of sexy times.

Actually no, that wasn't the hardest part for me, had some problems with the bandits on the way to the diplomatic mission, the one group with 5 opponents had me really sweating for a few rounds.

But the main point is, don't have a maybe alley, make sure there is one or there is none and balance from there.

Kind of defeats the point of having him if he's removed ahead of every tough battle.

I appreciate the feedback on this and welcome more if any of you have more--or anybody else does, for that matter. Game balancing is something that I'm sure will come up multiple times over the course of development, so I do appreciate getting additional perspectives as I try to find a mix that keeps combat from getting too simplistic and repetitive over time or requiring users to walk a fine line to survive--especially once the player reaches levels 8-10 and enough skills unlock and I can add more variety to enemies' strengths and weaknesses.

For version 0.2.0, I've decided on a couple of play balancing ideas:
  • The first battle will be significantly shorter. Ironically, it won't actually be easier because there are fewer bottom-tier goblins to beat up on, so bad RNG can cause the player to lose.
  • The second battle, the one in the castle, will be slightly easier. I'm reducing the HP of some of the enemies a little bit. It won't make the battle trivial or anything, but it will help people who did not pick up Neemar the goblin and aren't great RPGM players. I think it will also make that battle feel a bit punchier by removing 1-3 expected turns per battle.
  • All subsequent battles will be balanced under the assumption of a full party. Because I'm offering players the ability to pick up Neemar once Sadie enters the city, my working assumption is that anybody who rejects him is going for a more challenging run. I already have events scripted out based on whether he's in the party, so aside from the occasional dumb bug like the one that cropped up in 0.1.5, a player should be able to go through the entire game without him. That player will miss a fair number of scenes and additions to conversations, but that's fine. There are a couple of other planned characters that will behave similarly: they're optional but not hidden, and I'm going to develop from the starting point that players will pick up all of those characters but that they don't need to in order to complete the game.
  • The orc battle, in particular, does not change. It's supposed to be a somewhat tough battle, and one where it's okay if Sadie loses. The average player shouldn't lose this battle (and there's a scene incentive for winning), but narratively, it should be significantly more of a challenge than the goblin-related quests.

Combat is... well, RPGMaker, I'm not sure why people are insistent on including it.

The writing otoh, is fantastic. I greatly appreciate both, characterisation of the main(s) and the game's sense of humour in general.

There's a bit of code I run to reset a particular event. If you'd like to attach your save file here, I can fix the issue.

The next release will also fix this but the free version isn't coming out until the 13th, so it'd suck to have to wait that long.

I too have the black screen after talking to Ellanon and choosing Fireball and schoolhouse option. I'm assuming talking to the right castle guard previously and being taken inside before completing fireball is the culprit. I've attached my save, as I've been going questing, so even though it's only 3 hours of playtime, I'd rather not have to redo it.

My opinion of the fights so far are they are fine, maybe a touch easy. I died 3 or 4 times at the start of the cave while I worked out the damage taken per hit, how much I dealt, that you can fail to run away etc., which is normal for me. The only fight I died in since was the first time I met the goblin sergeant when I started about half health and left the heal too late, so he hit me before it went off. Fighting wolfmen Sadie was doing _very_ little damage with normal attacks, but Neemar easily made up for it together with firing the psychic attack off when it charged.

Here you go. You'll talk to the guard, have the diplomacy conversation, and then talk to Ellanon and that scene should work.

Thanks for your input on the fights. That sounds like it's right around where I'd like the balance to be, especially early on. Sadie isn't a big damage dealer with the claws, so she sets up for psychic damage, especially as she levels up and gets new skills.

Facing an issue with the checking on wine supply quest. I chose the option to ask for a job and that piece of dialogue has overwritten everything for me. Now whenever I talk to the Barkeep he just says "You've done enough for one day. Come back tomorrow. The Drunken Skunk'll still be here." I can't complete the quest now and Ellanon keeps telling me to check on the shipment

Whenever you get a message like that, it means that you'll need to go to sleep. Sadie has a room in the Succubus Tenement--if you haven't set that up yet, talk to the older succubus at the desk near the front. Then, go up to the second floor and her room is in the back (because every hotel room is somehow always in the far back, it seems). Go to sleep and then head back to the tavern and the story will continue. You'll have to work a few days at the job until you can chat with the bartender about wine, but Ellanon will still be there.

That did the trick! I was worried I'd have to start a new game to end this loop
