So, nothing new has been added since that time. The lion's share of my current efforts are focused on new projects, but I sincerely hope you're having a good time with the game as it stands.

Yeah it was still fun just once you get lots of characters management gets tedious. That is an issue with most games of this type.

I've noticed that myself. Like you said, not just in Sanctuary but other games of the genre as well. I enjoy these games the most when I only keep a medium-sized number of followers around. Yet oftentimes, a large number of followers are necessary to make the endgame challenges viable. So, one of the measures I put in place to help address this are the constructible outposts of the War Sanctum and the Cloister of Eros (

), which allow the player's Strength and Persuasion stats to be kept high by followers dismissed to these locales, while keeping their number of on-site followers as low as they prefer.

These become available as dismissal options sometime after turn 80 (when the follower count is probably starting to get high), and are available in the Complete Edition of the game.

Free Cities, Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Kenshi...

At least in Dwarf Fortress you don't have to manage them individually. They do their own things for the most part. Things slow down significantly for other reasons like every puddle of alcohol on the ground after a dwarf spills shit everywhere constantly needing to be simulated. There was a time when cats kept dying and they did not know why. It was because the cats would get covered in the puddles of alcohol and then lick themselves and die of alcohol poisoning. That is too much simulation!

Indeed, there is! As of update 0.4.3 (

), there's an opportunity to rescue from slavers (and optionally romance) a woman who claims to be your "true" mother, and afterward, this opportunity evolves into a chance to save aunts & female cousins from a similar fate.

So I'm not sure if this counts as a bug, but it's certainly unexpected behaviour.

1. Start the game.
2. Immediately dismiss your follower.
3. Just hit Advance Turn a lot.
4. ???
5. Profit!

In all seriousness - this will win the game. With zero followers you can never get any silver (except by random events, I suppose, but I just ignored those/built the statues) and can't upgrade your base, but you also won't have any loyalty issues. Choose the Strength based option for all the conflicts (Persuasion might also work, haven't tried it). You'll fail every check, but you'll win anyway (and I chose to execute everybody; you definitely don't want to spare any bosses in case they become followers).

Correcting this, assuming it does indeed count as a bug, would have to mean that you can't dismiss your last follower, as with 0 followers you have no way to increase their numbers (again, except sparing bosses I suppose).
