Good luck with this, brother. I really hope you can end up making something better than the original.
Unless you have more initiative than cards drawn each turn, I'll start with the balancing after it gets a little more shape. The engine is Godot by the way.-I don't know what is the engine used there but the result is pretty neat. It feels... faster and smoother.
-In combat, player don't keep the cards in his hands at the end of the turn, so it's useless to play a card that draws more cards...
Long story short. Dev did some changes to the game not everyone agreed with. It was minor at first with Cards. Fair nuff but things were still going smoothly. Despite the passive aggressiveness from all sides. Also can someone explain to me the problem with the orginal dev.
I first play this game a few month ago and it was only the car and vn part of the game but that still crazy though, I seen games done that before, changing the entire game after a few year in deveopment and alway that that a sign that it might not get finish (though not always) though that might be me.Long story short. But then... they completely started over going full visual novel, confusing everyone, and it was a whole thing. Two years more or less down the drain and worse it was like a reboot.
And then there was one for now final update and the dev moved onto a new project.
2 years of development, falling from promising turn-based/free-roam rpg corruption game to inanimate visual novel with card-battle system.I first play this game a few month ago and it was only the car and vn part of the game but that still crazy though, I seen games done that before, changing the entire game after a few year in deveopment and alway that that a sign that it might not get finish (though not always) though that might be me.
Honestly I seen game take way more years of development to completely flip their game so not the worse I seen but still kinda bad.2 years of development, falling from promising turn-based/free-roam rpg corruption game to inanimate visual novel with card-battle system.
Original dev unfortunately showed a strong lack of direction in what he wanted the game to be. Despite the original game creating quite a following and showing himself to be quite the talented developer... They decided to release a surprise update that completely changed the game. The story, gameplay, etc all changed. It went from a side-scroll adventure game into a.. very poorly running Visual Novel (with I believe only one fight scene, though could definitely be incorrect.) built inside the RPG Maker engine..I do not know much about the dev for the orginal game or why people dislike him, but not sure if it the best idea to do this without the premission of the orginal dev. If you cannot get premission maybe it best to make a game similar but have diffrent character design that are your instead of littery taking from the orginal game.
Was never a big fan of the cards system personally but that could also be because it was never fully developed and balanced out. Though would think the original system would be somewhat easier for you to build upon since you're planning to focus on coding rather than any art but...I'm going for the cards system, maybe the talents could be merged with it also, like upgrading cards as you unlock perks. I'm completely unable to draw, so no art from me.
