Well maybe using the word social engineering might not be right for that statement then, because social engineering suggests some third actor manipulating people with intent to see the fall of a society in this instance.
I do believe with the rise of the internet and how much more connected we are than before, like minded people are finding it easy to share ideas, fetishes and bring them to life than lets say 20 years ago.
So if we have this discussion in 10 years, I think you will see more cuckolds than before because there's more people online and more people that enjoy a certain fetish are able to explore it together. But that doesn't mean these men are submissive in nature or have low testosterone, because that haven't been studied or proven.
Well here's the interesting part for me: Why does it increase? What are the triggers?
Currently i hold a believe (has some backing to it). That there are certain waves that are producing this.
Any fetish is a deviation from normalcy. If it keeps growing it means that there are certain elements that trigger it to be increased.
For example i'm fixated on cuckolding more because it's for the most part the opposite of my fetish group. (Even being a bull is somewhat neutrally negative for me, though due to sadism/dom kink i take certain pleasure in that).
And it isn't only opposite of my fetish group it is mostly conventionally opposed to male psyche due to our physiology, culture and mating strategy.
So when a certain kink that is weird to a certain gender gains popularity i see it not as a natural force but either a by product of shifting tides or in much rarer cases (mostly local) intentional.
As an example for intentional i would say US crazy drag curriculum in schools or gay parade elements that show sexual fetishes rather than their attempt to normalize their sexual preference. (S/M costumes and imitations of role-playing.......).
To that extent i would never imagine coming to a school with a dom costume with a leashed sub and teaching children how good S/M is.
As a shifting tides : It's a long shot but bear with me. Due to no-fault divorce state and mass use of contraception's we have a large increase in divorces and infidelity. Next point infidelity among men either stayed stagnant or even started to decrease especially in younger generation males. Whilst female infidelity increased. What does infidelity do to the people? It causes a lot pain to the victim and dirty pleasure to the abuser. (also not only infidelity but seeing your partner after divorce with another partner might have some sort of similar feelings)
So as a coping mechanisms some infidelity victims become cuckolding fetishits. By coping mechanism i mean that our body to offset the pain brings pleasure element. (not everyone is blessed or cursed with this, curse or blessing is up to your interpretation)
This long shot is just ONE element of many other elements that affect for example this specific fetish. This element just increases the amount of fetishists in this genre from the base value. There are other elements and the same thing goes for the other fetishes.
Other long shot would be due to having more males than females (up to age 40-45 then it usually shifts) we are shifting to a reverse harem mentality. Same as after massive wars there is a lack of men and women are more willing to share their partners so do men in reverse.
But at the same time by birth women are more willing to accept harem situations than men. But this statement is more anecdotal based on inquires from women i know, reading some books and seeing shows where women admitted that sharing a rich husband is a better option than having an exclusive ordinary guy. Why i stated by birth? Because despite gender ratio trend leaning in favor of women they are still willing to be part of the harem. Though who knows, maybe it's just a hiccup from previous centuries.
