Ren'Py - Seeds of Chaos [v0.4.04 Dev] [Vénus Noire]

I really wanted to give this game more than one star, but after some time for though, I can't. With the synopsis being click bait having no similarity with the Witcher, dark souls or berserk but a dark tone. (Please do not insult great works with phenomenal world building/character development by compering it to this.)

Was debating if I should rate this game as a sex game or a normal game, but with the sex being pushed so hard, I am going to rate it as a sex game. And as a sex game it fails completely. No mater how you play even if you are into all of the wide variety of kinks this game has to offer (which I doubt many if any are), you can only fap 1 rarely 2 times at most before there are hours and hours of game without anything sexual.

The kinks push variety instead of quality and always feel forced. From the dominant interactions feeling like an act, to the NTR feeling rushed, the gay forced and the orgies not fitting at all. True, I only really explored vanilla and dominant acts but even then they sometimes broke world building, character and story flow. While the acts of other varieties did not fit at all, feeling like lighting out of the clear sky when I encountered them.

Then there are the many, many spelling mistakes, repeating sentences, contradicting sentences, bugs and so on feeling like a lazy mess. Not to mention the lack of direction and what I can assume any thought of finishing the game.

Then there is the world building being abandoned for sex, character development abandoned for sex, character interactions abandoned for sex... Then its the lack or rather disregard for historic accuracy, common sense or the consequences for bad choices on the part of both the bad and good guys. With an actual choice being a illusion deciding only what scene or if you will see a sex scene, not affecting the story at all.

Thereby I am telling those who are interested for this game, you need to have a wast variety of kinks (predominantly NTR/bysexual) and not be interested at all into the story flow/consistency to enjoy it. If you are straight man you will most likely feel suffocated and annoyed by the time you finish it.

There are no original characters in this game, all of them being nothing more than copies of what you would assume from there race/origin.

And the game literally discourages replayability (not showing possible choices/giving no guidance to finding new content).

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A QUICK FAP YOU WILL NOT FIND IT HERE! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD STORSY, YOU WILL FIND THE SAME QUALITY IN PORN!!!

Fun, and has a few days worth of content.
I played with NTR off, and was never forced into anything but still had the option to trigger some events that felt completely natural in places.

As an NTR game, even with NTR turned off, you have to accept that your captors are unreasonable. Even if they convince you that they are your allies and you want the same things, they're still going to antagonize you and try to steal your things.

The game suffers the usual sandbox issues, with events triggering unpredicatly and out of order. Some events are incomplete but can stil be triggered, some can silently lock you out of other events and eventually my game softlocked.

It would benefit from either a better ui/journal with clear flags, progress and next steps or an actual walk through. It should definitely remove incomplete scenes as well.

    Great game.

The updates are a bit slow but the story/events are well developed and the gameplay goes along with them.

There are lots of fetishes, so it might not be the best idea to play this is there's a hard no for any of them.

    Pros
-The most striking feature of the game is the high quality of the writing language and the progression of the story. It's like the story was transferred from the novel to the game. So if you don't like long dialogues, it might be boring.
-The art of the game is quite beautiful and integrated with the story.
-The atmosphere and music of the game are very compatible with the dark fantasy theme.
    Cons
-Although there is an option to turn off NTR kink in the game, I did not find it very effective.
-Mini games, maps, etc. are not nice. It doesn't fit the style of the game at all.
-It is obvious that the author has changed in the side scenes. The quality of writing is not of the same standard.

You play as a bisexual cuckold who is helping demons conquer the world. Obviously there is tons of NTR. If you're into that you'll love this game. If you're not do not play this game. It says there's an option to turn off NTR but there really isn't. It just skips the artwork essentially.

A note about the artwork. Occasionally the MC looks like he does not have skin. You can see the red fibers of his muscles very clearly. For me that was absolutely boner poison.

the artwork for this game is my favourite of any adult game and for that the game will always be a 5/5 regardless of the many issues. the scenes with Jezera are truly stunning.

this game includes certain fetishes that some don't enjoy (NTR, femdom, cheating, etc.), but they're done in such a way that feels very organic and integral to the story. it is natural and expected that the female demon that is trying to take over the world is into dominating and toying with her general (the MC).

i've played many games, even ones that i've enjoyed a lot, that i've forgotten about shortly after playing them. seeds of chaos is one that has stuck with me even after 2 years.

    now, for some constructive criticism:

    1. my feeling is that the dialogue is a bit long winded.

    2. imo, this game would've worked much better as a pure VN without any of the gameplay features that have been added. commanding the army around the hexagonal map is boring, and building upgrades that give percentage bonuses is annoying.

    3. the game has been in development since 2016 and updates are quite slow. for most adult games i would move on and not care but the story and characters of this one have their hooks in me so i keep coming back to it.

    4. i played the version from two years ago and it was hard to tell my progress in the game or to know what should my next move be. if there was a dashboard to track progress and a bit more handholding it would've been nice. i tried to find walkthroughs but due to rework the guides were wrong and confusing.

I have been a fan of this game for quite some time, and I have to confess that I enjoy it a great deal.

The artwork is incredible, the writing is excellent, the sexual material is amazing, and there is so much more content now.

The script is also pretty remarkable, and there are a lot of different paths you to choose. The development of characters is also amazing and with a lot of routes.

    I recommend it !

Seeds of Chaos [v0.3.13] [Vénus Noire]

"Okayish" premise with very poor execution and barely any content. What's worse, the game tries to cater to totally opposite target groups adding lots of homosexual content that's often hard to ignore. Thanks to that we're getting very few scenes that would interest either group each update, although even when combined the render count is pathetic. The artwork is nice in general but sex scenes are underwhelming since they comprise of few images only and the gameplay doesn't compensate for that.

The gameplay. It's boring and annoying and the results are random so it encourages to save scum and reload for best results since the exact same path may be our death as well as a road to wealth depending what we will roll.

Game often offers interesting moral choices, but too often you are in situation where you can not win, where only choosing a lesser evil is allowed. Some may like it, but I hate being striped of a real choice.

All in all, I'm done with this KN, after all these years the only redeeming quality is art and few other points. I'm out of copium, so c'est la vie and au revoir.
    Stay away from this one.

It's a complete package, a game with a clean vision, direct delivery and terrific art. Alexia is one of the most engaging ntr heroines I've ever seen, her path to corruption is as passionate as it is delicious. The debauchery is on front display here, and the game embraces it in its entirety.

The appeal can vary depending on your preference, as a vanilla type player you won't get much of a kick out of it, but nevertheless, the game holds itself to a high quality level.

The overwold screen is awful and laggy, you just kind of click around and hope one of the locations you selected has something useful, otherwise you wasted a day. The NTR is "forced" in that you have the option to turn it off, but there are still references to it and suggestions that if you lose your wife is going to be raped by the demons. Pretty pointless. Also, if you want to play as a "good" person and stay loyal to your wife and not bang all the demons and succubi, the content is VERY dry. It kind of tunnels you into playing a certain way and if you don't you see almost no content. I also find some of the art and characters to be pretty ugly honestly. Some are worse than others but I don't really find any to be "good" aside from the MC and his wife. There are definitely better games out there that offer the same things here, but just better. Avoid this game.

Seeds of Chaos is visual novel game with interesting story. In short, if you don't like to read, don't play it.
You play peasant hero who ended last great war against demons. Hero who is respected by enemies & friends, but was discarded without reward after the war. Game start several years after and then you and your wife end enslaved by children of the demon king you destroyed. Interesting thing is that you end being demon's general and steward, so you are in fact main guy behind demon invasion on human kingdoms.
Game often offers interesting moral choices, but too often you are in situation where you can not win, where only choosing a lesser evil is allowed. Some may like it, but I hate being striped of a real choice.
You also play wife. It is your choice how much main characters will be corrupted while serving demons.
Problem with this game is that it expands in too many directions, trying to please to varied audience. This game is not only trying to please straight/bi/gay public but also too varied fetishes and therefore will at the end disappoint most of them.
Also, my main objection that there too many unfinished stories. There is ton of stories that start, have 2-3 events and then disappear like they never existed. It's like author can't focus to finish anything. It is incomprehensible to me, but goblin stories actually got more content than anything in this game. In contrast, there is little of main story and it often seems forced.
In sexual sense, biggest problem is that main character Rowad can not be really dom or sub. You can dominate most of minor characters, but demon twins will threat you as their bitch thru-out game, worse as game progress. For someone who doesn't like playing sub, this was quite annoying. When I unlocked gallery and saw all the stuff I missed (and there was a lot I missed), how much main character was butt fucked & humiliated I understand why he is treated like a little bitch, but that is lazy from developer that he didn't do better part for writing playthroughes where Rowan isn't acting as bitch. The game is primary designed for main character to sink into corruption & all kind of perversions, resisting demon twins didn't really get much love.
Writing is on some places great, on others mediocre and boring, but that also depends on reader's taste.
Clarity of writing is often not really good (might be also partly as I often get bored reading it), so there quite few situations where I didn't really understand choices.
Since this visual novel game, all sex is text with few pictures. Pictures vary in quality, but they are usually good with nice style. But since game expanded in lot of stories, there are several sex situations without pictures.
RPG element in game is basically skill rolls and that is sufficient I think. World map where you travel is one of the ugliest thins I saw in games. Also, it is very empty.
In whole game I only sow few bugs and thankfully it was possible to "ignore" them. Also not really bug, but oversight from dev, I saw that game referred 2-3 times on choices I didn't make. This is actually not that bad as I expected a lot more bugs & errors in such large game.
I fished the game, but I must admit although I find story premise and many characters interesting, it left bad aftertaste. It's like reading an interesting, but ultimately bad book. I might try this game again once it's finished, but I probably won't.
This game is at least few years in development and still is very "early access". I think it will need at least few more before it becomes really good, but that is only a possibility. At the moment I would recommend this game only to bisexual people with vast fetishes including those of like of goblins and like being mighty yet powerless.
In short, great potential, but terrible realization. This game is great example what happens when you try to do too much variety and end giving little on most ends.
    Played on v0.3.11.

One of the best games on this site. Story is more than good, lot of choices that impact story, it could have more poses in sex scenes and more animations, but hey everything other is perfect in my opinion.

    (Version Reviewed: v0.3.11)

I'm a little unsure on how to review this game. I could see myself rating it as average as well as good. Eventually I chose average, but I can see myself rating it as good as well since I keep coming back to play this game no matter how much it disappoints me.

Let's begin with the art and I would say that it's excellent. One of the most attractive 2D art games out there. The characters all look wonderful. It presents an excellent grimdark image most of the time which fits the theme of the story.

The music fits the theme of the theme of the game and it definitely enhances it. I just wish there was a large selection of tracks though.

The premise is quite interesting. Not many games have the MC as a heroic figure but being forced to serve the evil he had always fought against. It also helps that the MC's wife is pulled into the shenanigans and she isn't just a figure to support his journey but an active participant.

The story is pretty well-structured. We have the MC live his comfortable village life to attempting to save his wife (and the struggles he face along the way which reminds him why he hates the nobility) to being forced to serve the evil doers. I liked how we get to choose that MC seeks to serve them to improve his livelihood. The story then follows how he serves them by his actions in conquering a neighboring village, conquering his liege lord's keep, gaining allies and conquering the kingdom that he served under. All excellent plot points.

Where the game fails is with the UI as it still has bugs on every release.

I'm also not a big fan of the DnD style of the game. It often forces MC to miss out on scenes as it comes up on a random. I do not mind creating multiple saves, but atleast it would be good if there was a guarantee that we can see each scene created for the update.

The main LI (Alexia) is also a secondary protagonist. We can have an NTR path with her character. I do not mind NTR and chose to see the NTR scenes. I feel her character drops in quality after each update. Initially Alexia's reasons to cheat on the MC was that he does not give her attention and her desire for more power. But as the game progresses, she just becomes a mindless cock hungry slut which stops her from being an interesting character.

I liked the villainess Jezera as her character does have strong feats and does magic that is beyond the scope of the MC. She is also a more calculating villain and forces us to play the game of intrigue to keep up with her. But, her brother (and villain) Andras is so fucking boring. His only character traits are that he hates the MC for killing his dad and he wants to fuck MC's wife as an extra form of revenge. He does go for the seduction route initially and I liked that aspect, but afterwards he just turns her into a cock drunk slut instead of shifting her allegiance from her husband to himself. Kinda feels like wasted potential.

There are multiple other characters that are interesting such as Greyhide (the minotaur blacksmith), Cla-Min (the goblin woman merchant), Heartsong (the fae girl), Liurial (the elf girl assistant), etc. But, again the characters are mostly restricted to Rowan's path. Alexia's path has become more and more of a mindless corruption (excluding Greyhide).

The development is quite slow as well. It is a game that started in 2016 and we are still playing in the first kingdom. This is a game that I can see going on forever with very little added in terms of content.

Overall, I think a rating of 6.5/10 is fair. It just feels somewhat like wasted potential.

TLDR: A game with an amazing concept, art and feel that is still unfinished and a bit buggy in places.

If Seeds of Chaos gets truly finished and polished it will be a classic, I am calling it now. I have no idea why the devs decided to use RenPy for such an ambitious project but I suspect that they have recoded half of the engine to make this gameplay possible anyway.

The first bit of gameplay seems like the typical VN - make some choices that have no effects and read a lot (which would be totally fine, don't get me wrong). But don't be fooled - this is a much more complex game.

Essentially once you finish the Intro, you will play a mixture of a management game and an adventure game with DnD mechanics. Your character will level up, you can improve your stats to have better chances in ability checks while upgrading your (well technically not "your") castle. During all of this there are dozens of characters to talk to with decisions that actually influence the story. Honestly I would love to have more *non smut* games like this.
But oh, smut there is. And it's very well done, I have rarely seen better in a western game. There is no voice acting but that's fine (though it would add to the experience of course).

Now why don't I give 5 stars at the moment?
The game and especially the UI can be a bit clunky at points and sometimes there are RenPy errors in later unfinished stages of the game. With the UI my main problem was that it's sometimes a bit unclear what is selected etc. Some mechanics could be a bit better explaines as well but the way the Codex is implemented in general is very good.

Once this gets a few more updates and content (though there is already quite a lot, don't get me wrong), this will be a 5 star review.

Game left bitter taste afterwards. It doesn't matter if you choose to play without NTR, the dialogue will still somewhat have it. Your choices don't matter at all. Antagonists are just amateurs who have power.

I started playing this out of looking for something different on the site. The artwork looked vastly different than most VN's out there, which is what primarily drove me to play it. I didn't know exactly what I was getting into when I started playing it, but I was blown away once I got into the game.

I have been playing this start to finish for the past four days now, exploring pretty much everything there is to do in it. The story is extremely well written, and I found myself agonizing over choices in the game at several points. The paths you can choose in the game play out vastly from each other, and I love that in games. I preferred playing the route of a fallen hero, slowly giving in to the corruption and lust, while trying to still hold on to his humanity and decency. Although the routes where you are basically a man-whore for the demons is also a lot of fun to play out as well. This has some of the roughest and hottest scenes in a VN that I have seen on the site.

All of the characters have life woven into them, and all feel unique and special. Andras and Jezera are fantastic villains and truly sell how evil and vile villains can be. All the characters you are introduced to kind of fill in their traditional trope, while having unique traits and quirks that set them apart. Even the extremely minor characters in the game are fleshed out and truly makes the world feel alive. I would go as far to say that the characters in this game as on par with some of my favorite Triple A games. Even more so at times. I love Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and this felt as good as those games as far as in story.

So while I greatly enjoyed the story, the UI really needs some love and attention. The journal really needs some work. You are pretty much on your own to figure out what you need to do, and where you need to go. I spent like 20 weeks just trying to find the Orc Camp and Goblin Woods for the second chapter/installment of the story. The quests section of the journal is pretty awful and bugged out. It was pretty much completely useless when I played, thankfully I was able to figure out what to do with relatively minor effort. The Codex feels fine to me, but I would appreciate it giving some tips/reminders to check out the Codex and Glossary. The Codex could also update periodically to try and inform you more of where things currently stand in the game world. There were issues with garrisons not updating, functions of the game not working in general, and many weeks spent doing nothing that kind of took away from the freeroam/castle building side of things as well. The tavern/brothel is stuck at level 1, my orc count couldn't go higher than 30, I spent many weeks with nothing left to research/build.

In summary, this is a truly amazing story told in a truly unique way and I can't wait to see where the story goes next. The game is not without its faults, but feel like hiccups when compared to the intricate narrative being told. I highly recommend this to everyone who enjoys VNs and enjoys rich fantasy stories in general.

This game is very good. Well thought out sexual situations and choices. As well as the writing is really good. And the story is there. Also all actions in the game are connected with everything else. Characters are well made. A really good exciting game. And also the gaming elements - like power development and resources handling are really well done and interesting in the way that they are there, have influence but at the same time no grinding. Everything is done with the thought for enjoyment and not tedious. I hope the authors/developers will keep the good work and their imagination flowing. Thank you for the awesome and hot game.

    I just love this game.

This game is in a fantasy setting, plenty of castles, tribes, villages, you get to explore the world.

There are all kinds of races and a really good plot.

This game has sandbox elements that is made very well, it makes it even more interasting and prolongs your game and overall experiance.

Theres also stats system with points as you level up, pretty interasting and fun.

This game has animations but theres only few of them that i saw, mostly its just CGs.

You have lots of choices in this game that actually matter, you can do whatever you want, its your choice.

Now, how the quests work are you get certain ammount of weeks to complete them, by doing that you must talk to characters, explore and research and upgrade stuff.
I never failed and had plenty of extra time, which i actually used up and was quite fun.

You must try this game, i dont know how i didnt play it any sooner

    Sneaky Heresiarch

I don't know what it is about this game but I really like it.

First of all the overall theme is just *chef's kiss*.
The characters are very interesting and their archetypes are unlike anything I've seen elsewhere in fantasy adult games. I disagree that they're generic. But maybe if you play hundreds of them - which I haven't - you start to see patterns.

What the game intentionally spares in visuals and scenes, it maximizes in all other departments. And when the artwork does appear, it is simply beautiful and unique.

there is a really great split between interactivity with the builds and maps and story progression. And you can just play the game without walkthrough and see where it gets you. Love that.

But possibly the main selling point is that it caters to every possible kink and gives you full freedom how to go about them.

Like dominant MC? have at it nearly exclusively. Love submissive MC? likewise. Like both? alternate. The variety is mindblowing.
Granted, if someone likes just generic vanilla repetitive big dick mc banging every LI in a row - this game may offer too much variety and hinder your playthrough. And I mean that without being snarky. It has a lot of varied stuff, including non-humans and non-straight. But if you don't mind that , it is a great selling point.

If you like the art style and the fact it is a bit different than most games here, you will love it.

As others mentioned, in the future I also hope that the sandbox element remains the same it is now and story is prioritized. Otherwise it could become unsure of itself and where it wants to go. Keeping the current balance seems fine. Prioritising story above sandbox may be even better.

    8/10

    Damya

This game offers very little control over your gameplay.

    - On one hand it offers a lot of options in dialogues, there's a management part.
    - On the other hand once free play part starts you are faced with a condition: do this in X amount of time or game over. When you finish this, you suddenly see that you still have to wait until time limit. Later in dialogues you get more forced tasks to do.
-A lot of interactions seem to be behind time intervals with no way to trigger them until time comes and what worse that you get quite bit of forced events out of blue, sometimes even with stat checks that you easily fail since you never knew you'd even need these stats or could level them up.

A seemingly sandbox and management game with a false impression that it has a freedom of choice but in fact it just emposes the way it plays on the player.

For many players a well written story and dialogues matter a lot but here it takes away control for such a long time as if it's some kinetic VN forcibly fused with a sandbox game.
When you try it you might notice a really long prologue, it's one of many long intermissions it suddenly drops out of blue.

Sadly, for me it's one of games where CG is leagues ahead of the gameplay part. I tried this game when it first appeared annow a few years later and I enjoy it even less than before.
I like sandboxes, I like management games, I don't like when a game tries to "play the player", especially when it's so dedicated at doing this.
