i spent time comparing old art style with the new.
it's basically the same as comparing warcraft III Frozen throne VS the brand new Reforged.
both seed of chaos and warcraft III new version image, picture and CG is worse compared with the older version.
they are forcing on realistic aspect to much.
i am convinced this series is a big fail because reforged has proven to be fail.
People prefer clear image over a realistic one hence why lightning and brightness is very important in movie making.
just look at how much time they spent on 1st chapter and they do bunch of rework instead of going forward to chapter 2.
ironically artistic value is very subjective and art replacement is not mandatory but they are going hardcore into it.
smell like a nonsense made by developer to slow down game development.
OR
the old artist is not available so future project is heavily reliant on new artist.
personal bias :
i feel like they are milking patreon before scrapping the series or finish this in a rush.
edit :
i read some review and acording to chambord review
bad :
- Some content from previous versions have been gone
it seems i am not the only one prefer the older content.
i read further into review and some dude called out bad contrast which i completely agree with since the new art is just not appealing.
As I recall (So this could be wrong), the old artist is still there. The change was about division of labor so that one artist did some things, while the other did the rest, to speed up the process. To keep the art consistent, they've been re-doing the old art with the same labor division at the same time as they add new art.
This may not be a perfect comparison, as I assume the older changelogs were during the monthly release schedule as opposed to the current every-other-month release schedule, plus for all I know they just commission more from the artists to boot, but:
0.2.15 had 4 CGs with variations added. 0.2.18 had 4 CGs with variations added (No variations listed, but who knows.)
0.3.02 had 16 CGs with variations added, and 24 reworked. 0.2.64 was 19 CGs with variants and 13 reworked.
So at the art production side has probably more than doubled, even assuming those old releases were monthly releases and discounting the reworks. Subjective taste aside, if they're slowing down production to milk patrons, they're doing a pretty bad job of it.
