It is normal, at the beginning there is a lot of ambition with the project, as the years pass they realize that they have a game too big to manage, in this particular case really in an update if they want to leave it finished, but the developers have left it abandoned.

I generally try to be sympathetic to the struggles of creating a game but in the case of SexNote it was pretty clear early on this game had no direction and was just going to keep adding content to keep patreons. Let's be honest, when was the last the update that had anything resembling a "main plot" - was there ever such an update? The creators kept adding waifu-of-the-month and celebrities because there really were no substance beyond people paying for random sex scenes.

I understand what you are saying, they got carried away with putting celebrities in the game, I like this game a lot and it pisses me off that they are leaving it abandoned.
If I had my hands on the development before leaving it abandoned, I would release one last update to at least close it.
In this case they could have done it since the main plot can be closed with one more update.

movie told he was better getting a real job than taking/stealing money for doing nothing, thing many devs do these days. This dev milked with 2 patreon accounts(and still some people paid twice lmao) with a poor concept for years. No wonder it's finally tagged as abandoned.

Ten million views. I mean, when you reach that level of popularity among all the other adult games, you can probably afford to get a decent team to delegate your work. That is, if the problem was the amount of work to be done and overburning, of course.

Kind of hard to have played Demon Deals 0.6a 6 months ago when it came out just under 3 months ago.
