Devs have vanished.

I have this on Steam and we haven't heard anything from the devs since the last update was put out.
From what I've managed to piece together, the Developers intended to use the income from another project they had to fund both games, but went bankrupt. If any of them come back and grant permission for the games to be community finished (which they are more than allowed to say) then we'll see.

Permission? Why and what for? As far as I know modding community for any game never needed any permission from any developer.

To let the community finish the game; some developers who can't finish their project due to other obligations have let the community do it for them with advice or guidance from the original dev.

Modders already have the ability to "finish" the game by adding content however and whenever they like—there’s no need for permission from the developers. What you’re probably thinking of is the developers making the entire project public, including the source code and all assets. That, however, is highly unlikely to happen.
