You're on the wrong route. You can romance Kokoro but you need to avoid that Kotonoha ending and end up with Setsuna first. Then when Kotonoha gives up on Makoto, Kokoro will decide she might as well try herself. Probably best to use the guide since even then it's easy to get a bad/different ending. You need to be interested in Kokoro not too much and not too little or he rejects her. Although if you were bothered by that Kotonoha scene being rapey you might not like the Kokoro one either. She does still end up in love with him by the ending but the circumstances were definitely not what I would have preferred either. At least there was a bunch of fun stuff before that. Kokoro is beyond adorable <3

Well, I'm stumped. But I'm going to resist reading the guide a little longer. While I figure out how to defeat the villain Kotonoha, here are some topics for the forum:
I love the huge cast of sexy girls, complete with milfs and lolis, and how just about every character has a scene if not a full route or ending. I can't even pick a favorite because almost all of them appeal to me in some way. So that alone adds huge replay value, since I'm going to want to unlock most of the scenes. So far I've done endings/routes with Setsuna, Karen+Otome, Hikari, and Kotonoha.
I like that Setsuna is the hero, but she seems more timid in this game compared to the first one. Some of these scenes I think would never have happened to School Days Setsuna... like that stupid part in her route where she

Day-to-day life at Radish is not nearly as interesting as the game makes it out to be. I don't care, just let me have sex with all the cute girls and milfs already!

If you're on the route where you meet Kotonoha at all and are going to the festival with her, you just need high Setsuna affinity and Makoto will go look for her before the Kotonoha sex scene. I can only imagine that's what you're referring to. That's really not the difficult part in getting Kokoro's ending.
Other than that the game lets you fast forward or skip entire scenes so replaying it to get a different ending really isn't that annoying. Of course you can save and load whenever you want too.
While it does have H scenes this game isn't a simple hentai where that's 90% of the focus. You're meant to play the game and enjoy interacting with/dating the girls as well. Some routes don't even have H scenes to the end just like in the first game. If you just want the H scenes they're all over porn sites so you can just go watch them there.
I think the reason Setsuna is more aggressive in School Days is because she's basically already given up on Makoto by that point and is just trying to help out her best friend while also being on a short clock before she has to move away. So that makes her not give as much of a shit about appearances and social consequences. In Shiny Days she can afford to be more timid and she's actually serious about potentially dating Makoto. I can see why that might put some people off but I think her difference in personality is understandable.
I have to thread the needle, right? Too many Setsuna points and I get asked by her, which I assume is the wrong route. I have to somehow max her favor while also not go high enough to stray from the route. I'm pretty sure I have all the Kokoro-related choices correct, so there must be something else I'm missing.
And of course, I could just look up the scenes. I've already seen most if not all the Kokoro scenes already, but I know I'll enjoy them a lot more once I've earned them myself, and seen the full story of how we got there.
You want to start dating Setsuna and then afterwards start having relationship problems so Kokoro can kinda worm in. I don't have the guide in front of me but basically max Setsuna, start dating, min Setsuna, then pick only 1 positive Kokoro choice when you're on the beach. But you have to be on the Kotonoha festival branch, not the one where Sestuna confesses to the empty room. I don't even remember why exactly those 2 branches split.
Finally I'm on the right route. I had to restart the game and pick up the last few Setsuna points I had missed; they really give you no room for error on this. I think the key is to tell Kokoro "she's not my girlfriend" so she tries setting you up with Kotonoha, but otherwise pick every pro-Setsuna and pro-Kokoro choice.
Oh interesting. I didn't know exactly where the split was between having Kotonoha at the festival or not but sounds like that's probably it. So did you finally get your Kokoro ending? I'm pretty sure if you always pick her choices you get a bad ending because

Who knew? I guess the real lesson here is that Makoto is the worst, and you can't make him not terrible.
