Try pasting these two files into the game folder. After that, open 999-namefix.rpy using Notepad, then search for NEW_NAME. Change it to whatever name you want. just add a backup of your game. I’m not sure if it works with a freshly extracted game or one with existing progress.

In some ways that's a good thing since the Riders have continually said that it is better to do a new game every update to prevent any chance of corrupt data that could cause issues with the new update code. but there are always the cheats to get you to through the game faster/get all the girls and/or h-scenes.
