I may have missed this part of the discussion - if so, my apologies.
Here's why I find the vacation decision point questionable.
From a comment within the past 24 hours, the game to date has spanned 23 days. The vacation is supposed to start June 28th? That would be 67 days out - almost three times as much time in the future as we've seen to date.
That's a lot of game time between now and then. For people who will want to look at both paths, they need to maintain two branches (at least) of the game for (in all probability) years before the vacation starts.
The other potential issue is: will the two vacation paths be significantly different? There are two likely options: either the same basic story beats will be covered in both (meaning the story basically merges back together once the vacation is over), or the vacation will fork the story in a way that means there will be (for all practical intents and purposes) two stories moving forward.
This seems like a no-win situation for the dev. If the only difference between the two vacations is basically the backgrounds and outfits, the frustration users will experience due to a delay in effective new content could backlash into support. On the other hand, if the vacation winds up being a split point where the story follows a different path entirely depending on which vacation you selected, then users can look forward to getting roughly half as much content over any given development period, as there will be two stories going forward.
This leads two a third criticism: we're being asked to make a potentially significant choice not only long before it takes effect, but with insufficient information as to the consequences. Again, if it's just a matter of beaches and bikinis versus woods, cut-offs, and shirts tied off above midriffs, that's not much different than a choice between two dresses for a girl for a date. However, we don't know if there will be a more significant difference. If we were asked to pick between a red dress and a green dress for a girl to wear on a date, but someone bursts into the restaurant during the date and kills everyone wearing green to death - people would be upset, to say the least. Are we facing that sort of choice?
Again, this is intended as a critique, not a complaint. This may all be handled very smoothly, and all our concerns may be ridiculous. However, it may be helpful to understand why we're concerned now.
