Kind of overlooked this in the comment so I just want to jump back in and say setting it in 2017 would not make the things I mentioned fit in the narrative at all. The teenage bedroom stuff definitely wouldn't since it implies Frank was a teenager in 2017 or so. We'd need to go much further into the future for that to make sense. And if it's set in 2017, Beth would have started college in 2004. A year before same sex marriage was legal in Canada. Nessa's bio implies she experimented a lot in college before meeting Beth in her third year. Nessa is one year older than Beth, so she would have been starting her third year 2 months after same sex marriage had become legal. But her bio says that "shortly after same sex marriage was legalized they got married."You want to ignore some cannon background info and insist the day/date matches real-world year 2023, despite the fact that if the year was 2017, which would also fit the day/date info, then the background information in question would actually fit perfectly into the narrative? That seems a much more relevant point to focus on than the throw-away line about FF16. The weed thing is much more relevant, but it's as strong an argument as the legalization of same-sex marriage, so that's an interesting conundrum.
My guess is the writer either assumed same sex marriage was made legal in Canada the same time as it did in America, 2015 I think, or when the game first started and this bio was written he actually intended to set it in America. This bio was a big part of why I thought it was set in America for quite a while. Anyway, the bio doesn't make much sense and unless this actually gets referenced in the game at some point, I think I'll just ignore this detail.
I would honestly like to read that thesis.I wrote a whole thesis (not really) about why, according to the stated information in game, the MC spent 8 years in high school, and three of them as a senior. It's still my favorite AVN.
