You are saying this to someone who actually learned japanese just to be able to play through Dragon Quest 7 back when it was released so yeah (if you know what that entails you know, if not... well good for you), try harder i guess. If you played it as a simple shoot-and-slash game without considering the narrative, then good for you. However, please think carefully before dismissing the work of others as irrelevant or unnecessary.
Look you can make up as much stuff as you want, but fanfiction is still fanfiction. It is not in the freaking game in any shape or form. Visual storytelling? This isn't Salt and Sanctuary which like Dark souls had plenty of lore scattered about both in the names of the locations, item descriptions and plenty of other things. What all of those had in common is that you could piece all of it together by yourself. I never ever felt the need to contact the game devs to ask just what the hell is going on in any of those games because there never was any need for it.I still think his opinion is atrocious but hey, if he enjoyed the game regardless, good for him! Especially if he paid for it.
Geez... if you don't like fan theories, just don't read them. You are saying this to someone who actually learned japanese just to be able to play through Dragon Quest 7 back when it was released so yeah (if you know what that entails you know, if not... well good for you), try harder i guess.

Seriously you guys really need to stop trying to look for meaning in things that weren't meant to be explained. As i said before just like in Lovecraft's stories the horror is that much more effective the less you understand how it works, and that was absolutely done on purpose. Sure go ahead and write your headcanon stuff all you want, i am not dissing you for your efforts instead i find the dedication admirable, but you should not call the "is the slug the metaphysical manifestation of eldritch gods or the MC herself from the future" some kind of official lore.
Also seeing how you pulled the "if he paid for it" argument out of your ass as some kind of point against me i can already see both the depth of your personality and your willingness to have an actual conversation so you will most likely not read anything i wrote here anyway and will keep interpreting everything as me being hostile to your efforts of spreading your "wisdom" around. Guys like you are the reason people dislike and find the Dark Souls fandom (as the most obvious example) toxic as hell.
Heck i knew that my previous post will draw both you and that other guy out of the woodworks to shit on me for daring to offend your dignity, because that's just how people like you are. Seeing how we won't be able to change each other's opinion anyway (besides i already said all i had to), to spare the mods some effort (and to prevent this devolving into a flame war) i'm ending both this and any further conversation between us right here and right now (you guys are going on the ignore list).
On one end, he is right that some theories are bit...too much. On the other hand, the dev did try to emulate dark souls with environmental storytelling, and honestly, while he did it really well, the fact the game can be cleared in like 5 hours means you cant really cram all that much lore into it. And honestly i enjoy it like that.Geez... if you don't like fan theories, just don't read them.
Everybody enjoys the game differently. Some hardcore players enjoy the challange of beating the game unscratched, some enjoy having bad statuses stacked as many as possible. Some enjoy just the game, some enjoy reading all the blog posts from the developer talking about how the game was designed. Enjoy the game however you want, just don't bother others who enjoy it differently than you. It's the same principle why we disapprove of kink shaming here.
If you actually read the developer's blog and Twitter posts, you'll see he put a lot of efforts into setting the game's atmosphere with small props in the scenery. He explains to the fans why he does something, so people who read those pay attention to every detail in the game and make their own speculations. If this isn't the kind of thing you enjoy, just look away. There's no need to insult people who do by calling them "make up stuff" or dissing the game for not having real visual storytelling because it's not comparable to some big-budget commercial games.
Disclaimers are not magical hypnosis spells. People will still be offended if you write something stupid, no matter how many disclaimers you put upfront. Real-life control freak techniques don't work online.
Calm down, mate. I wasn't taking a jab at you, but since you're taking all of this personally...You are saying this to someone who actually learned japanese just to be able to play through Dragon Quest 7 back when it was released so yeah (if you know what that entails you know, if not... well good for you), try harder i guess.

Yeah... there's no denying there's a few theories out there I've politely ignored. On one end, he is right that some theories are bit...too much. Exactly! Definitely a labor of love I hope was worth their time. One example, throughout the game i noticed how some ruins looked more ancient than others and the main village looked like it was build on an ancient city ruins. Lo and behold, at the end of the game you find the secret boss, an otherworlder that is stuck between the two realms, unable to influence either. We even pass through him when going to the goblins. And right there i had this little question answered.
Its hard not to see how much love was poured into this game.
Next time I write something I should just look at what others wrote before me and give a thumbs up for saving time. XDGeez... if you don't like fan theories, just don't read them.

Maybe I have my head in the gutter too much but...Some of them don't seem so bad (if this ain't a prequel but a different part of the globe and things aren't as bad as the first game or something) off. The tavernkeeper's got a pretty good gig going on before and after the town gets attacked, and the trader's probably making bank off of relics from providing potions. I just think a male holy warrior gets double-plus fucked in this setting.
Maybe with the magic, sure, but consider just how actually fucked you are in story in this game. Like, let's say a guy shows up to do Lilia's job instead: same abilities, same stuff, only difference is they're a dude with all that entails. You can do the first bits of the game fine, but things start to get wonk as you head towards midgame: you legit can't get KO'd once by the demihumans or they'll murderize you, and the cult doesn't have much need for you, since you ain't equipped like Lilia to get knocked up with the Otherworlder, or whatever other kid game over's your ass as Lilia if you pop it out.
And that's a big ass problem, because you can't get through the northeastern village if they don't really want you. You fight your way through the villagers to the gate, but you can't get that gate open without the key and you can only get that after being KO'd one time, which leads to the parasite ending up in Lilia - they're basically trying to break your ass to knock you up with a kid, or something along those lines. They can't (or can they ominous music intensifies) knock up male-Lilia, so if they get you down they'd probably go "hey this guy's the only real threat we have and they've got no value to our plans" and blast his ass into the next dimension. It ain't like they need to brainwash you - they've already got plenty of male cultists in the Cathedral. You're just a loose end they can tie up.
And even if you can get infected and they want to keep you around...my man, they're sticking a parasite worm up your ass, and you're liable to get gangbanged by every man in the village to put more in you like in the Lilia knock down events. That's assuming you make it even that far in the game because if you get KO'd by the demihumans they'll just take your head off. Cathedral? They're not gonna brainwash you or try to give you a womb crest, they'll just dust you the moment they get a chance. With Lilia if you fuck up at least you have the fact that most people want to use your big curvy body for something, which can let her get back on her feet - escaping from the demihumans, or just using how the cult underestimated her at the northeast village to get the two sides of the key. That's not great, lotta rape involved, but better than a guy who'd just get RIP'd the moment they fuck up even once. The Otherworlder's whole shtick seems to be "have mutant babies" so as a dude you either die or get M-preg'd.
This is not the setting to want to be a male protag in, good grief. If I was a dude in this setting I'd rather be the damned trader, because half the time Lilia seems to come up to him naked and he can still pull trade goods out of his ass to replenish her supplies and make absolute bank in the process everytime she comes back to town. Like, we're not even trading him cash; dude's taking holy relics - I'd bet they're worth more than money, so whenever this blows over you fuck off somewhere else, sell the lot, and live like a king.
Like, maybe male crusaders don't actually have it that bad in general, I dunno about the broader setting and I don't think we know much about it or them, but they'd definitely not have a good time in this game's main storyline.
Sadly, the dev probably wouldn't see it as financially viable, though I'd argue it could tap into a broader market.Maybe I have my head in the gutter too much but...
Male protag doesn't have to be an exclusive thing but as a co-star with switching perspectives if you know what I mean. Demihuman portion can be twisted a bit using the male protag as bait when defeated and captured for the female protag to come rescue. This can devolve in two ways, male protag getting disembodied in front of the female protag being raped or they force the male protag to rape the female protag before killing him.
The cult being the cult can brainwash the male protag much like how they brainwash the female protag. The male protag's job here would be to defeat the female protag and impregnate her or any other viable sisterhood targets.
I would say for the parasites it wouldn't be that much different except the male protag would be another fighting force much like how they had a priest. They'd just capture more females for their otherworlder. Having a parasite holy knight fighting for them is much better than a village boy/man with a knife lol
As for the actual fight with the otherworlder boss if you so choose to do as male protag would pretty much end up as meat flesh ending on loss and do something to the other two or not. There are many ways to implement the male protag, but question would be is it worth the effort and if they want more gore deaths.
I wouldn't complain playing a crusader wielding a Giant's Bow from Dark Souls 1, 'tell you hwat.Sadly, the dev probably wouldn't see it as financially viable, though I'd argue it could tap into a broader market.
I doubt the demihumans would keep any man alive unless it's to fatten them up, though. I'm thinking more along the lines of say Bone Tomahawk's cannibals here, as there's really no point in keeping them around when they'd likely only consider males from other species competition for potential mates. We certainly didn't see any sulking in Goblin Slayer's caves and Nennai is on record for saying the demihumans in Sinisistar are based off the goblins in it. That being said...
The demihumans could theoretically keep some as slaves for hard labor... before eating them eventually.
Regardless, it would have been awesome seeing a male protag co-star in this setting and, while I believe a holy knight would be fun, I'd argue a hunter would make more sense. Give him a sword and bow. Scatter pages of a survivalist's guide throughout the region, letting him learn new skills similar to Lelia finding those holy tomes. So, for his bow he could end up with fire arrows for DoT and explosive arrows for AoE, allowing him to hit the same content Lelia faces at a similar pace.
Kinda like those side-mode games in the GBA+DS Castlevania games, right?A good argument for a male protag could be for a sfw mode for the game. I mean sfw-with-lots-of-blood-but-nothing-lewd kind of game. I feel like it's one of the rare porn games that are good enough to be played like... well games.![]()
Oh, sure. I'd imagine you could definitely make it work from a gameplay sense, plus there's some ways to get it to slot in lore wise (ie, a couple of changes to the demihuman lore and you could probably have them taking some men as captives to breed a number of their captive women = a sustainable slave population for infinite breeding slaves, or something), but I was talking more about how bad a hand you're dealt with if you were just random dude who happened to end up at the monastery in Lilia's place, no story adjustments or nothing.Maybe I have my head in the gutter too much but...

If you've actually got the artistic chops, you could probably mod it into the game. It looks like pretty much the entire game's catalogue of MC assets can be accessed via the mods, so not just the side image on the left, but the sprites in game. You'd have to have the patience of a saint (and let's be real: ain't no saints in this thread) to redo all the sprites, but you could probably do it without too much trouble other than sheer workload. If someone did that and it was popular enough, it might be enough to convince the dev to run with it in the future, maybe.Sadly, the dev probably wouldn't see it as financially viable, though I'd argue it could tap into a broader market.
Exactly, just change the eastern village and its almost guarantee lose into something else, remove all NSFW content, create a male character, and we're good I think.Kinda like those side-mode games in the GBA+DS Castlevania games, right?
Belmont Mode, Giant Axe Mode, Alucard Mode, etc.
Right now theyve only mentioned spiders and 2 new quests but we cant say whether or not those 2 new quests involve the spiders.I know the devs mentioned they were adding spider sections. But do we know what the other area in the new content is going to be?
yeah 100% but it goes for quite a lot of porn based game lore the male would be entirely fucked and outright killed if not used for some nefarious breeding reasons lolOh, sure. I'd imagine you could definitely make it work from a gameplay sense, plus there's some ways to get it to slot in lore wise (ie, a couple of changes to the demihuman lore and you could probably have them taking some men as captives to breed a number of their captive women = a sustainable slave population for infinite breeding slaves, or something), but I was talking more about how bad a hand you're dealt with if you were just random dude who happened to end up at the monastery in Lilia's place, no story adjustments or nothing.
is the mod finished?just spent like 10 hours reading through this whole thread
