If I had to describe Carpetwurm I would say he is a guy with incredible potential to make a banger of a game but will never do so because he's his own worst enemy. He wants to make a porn game that's way too hard but could probably make either one of those options well if he would just drop one or the other. If you want to make it an incredibly difficult metroidvania, then drop the porn because anyone playing for the game isn't going to care about the porn. And if it's about the porn, what's the point of making the game harder than the average player can do?

It's gonna look good, it's gonna play good, it's going to have mixed results leaning towards being mostly negative, and then it's gonna get abandoned and die and carpetwurm will probably has another meltdown and the cycle continues.

Starting from his very first project, the prequel Tailbound, you expect something cool from the author, but it's the same thing over and over again. Here it is, for a whole year for the sake of bullying in the dungeon and a couple of very mediocre scenes with a whore wolf. But someone is actually paying for this garbage.
his first project was rushed and he decided to shorten the game instead making more levels, his 2nd game which is tailbound end up abandon, looking and reading here at the thread many of his supporters are disappointed because he stop updating tailbound.

Looked super promising at the start. This update is just unplayable and unfun. Difficult games have their appeal, but this game isn't difficult or challenging, it's just mean. What is the point of HP if everything will one or two shot you, even with the upgrade unless you have >40 armor? There's a reason these types of games measure your health in hits rather than numbers, because the numbers are pointless.

Besides the ridiculous damage some enemies seem to dish out now, you're constantly thrown into chokepoints that force you to get hit the first time you enter a section of the map because the hook kobolds insta-attack when they are aggro'd. The two bosses, surprisingly, are easier than the normal enemies because they are dodgeable and don't bullshit you as much. Not going to bother with the new area in the update until the damage is balanced somehow, it's too much effort for two, maybe three NSFW PNGs.

4.5/10 in the current state.

it's a hard thing to balance properly. If the game is too easy then why give it active game mechanics to pad out the porn? Why not go for something easier? And if the game is absurdly hard, whats the point of putting in porn if a majority of the players aren't going to see it? Even more so those good enough to do it aren't gonna be horny since they've been sweating because the game is so hard. At that point you might as well remove the porn and focus more on making the game as good as it can be.

Carpetwurm has always suffered from this problem because he genuinely wants the best of both worlds but the way he goes about both subjects ruins each other. Games are too hard for most people because he has this weird desire to make a souls-like difficulty type of game with very specific controls to his game. Combine that with the porn that is good, but not good enough to justify playing the game for, and you have such a distilled demographic that entices almost nobody. The game aspect for the gamers is always well put together but the stories are bland and boring. The porn aspect is good but hardly achievable so most people bypass with a save, negating the entire point of the game entire. At the end? Nobody is happy and everyone is disappointed.

I genuinely believe if Carpetwurm dedicated himself to a game and didn't put any porn in it at all, he could get that hardcore gamer demographic. Throw it on steam, it's furry but with no porn even non furries can be enticed by the design and concept. He's got the style and animation for it that I could see it being successful.

In the other hand if he balanced the game to be more casual and put in a lot more porn to appease the furries looking for the porn itself, and he could garner that demographic as well. A little difficulty just so it isn't braindead easy and maybe difficulty toggles for the better players who still want to play the game but maybe push the engine to its limit with a harder challenge.

Instead we get both, and now neither or really enjoyable because both are fighting against each other and he still doesn't get it. Not enough porn to care about if you just wanna jerk off, and the game is so hard I have no desire to jerk off because I'm just playing the game, which is genuinely a legit metroidvania.

The hook kobolds are easier to deal with then meets the eye, just jump up and towards them before taking agro; the hook will miss entirely, going under you, allowing for an easy stun-lock; skill issue otherwise.

The white runner kobolds are also simple, they only attack/run in one direction. Just bait them to run and smack them in the back; do not attack them from the front, you will die.

The giant statues are also stupid easy, just hug their feet and duck.

Worst time I had was just the first boss, but learning how to bait the attacks you want out of him turns him into easy work; same with the second boss.

Mimic is just pick your side of him and thwack until dead; stay out of the sludge.

I would call the game balanced enough to play and get where you need to go with enough skill; though I do agree the health for the character is far too low even with armor, imo the game isn't that hard, yall just seem to suck at it.

For the first boss if you stay towards the beginning where the downhill is you can literally just crouch and bait out their attack since it doesnt go low enough, stand up, and then hit them a couple times. Depending on what weapon you pickup, something like poison can go a long way.

If you're lucky enough to get a bow with life steal on it, the god pull is a life steal 3 kobold bow, you can pretty much run away from the 2nd boss and drop a full charged shot or two at them before waiting to jump over and switch sides.

This game punishes impatience tremendously. It really wants you to go slow and actually think about your options, and usually carry an extra weapon or two to cover your bases. Once you get a couple good weapons that feel good and do decent damage it starts to feel a lot better. Pretty rough learning curve right out the gate.

You can get back to the prisoner at the start for an extra scene, all I can think of rn

Yeah, there are ways to deal with enemies, the main problem is just how insanely punishing one entire hit is. It's not a challenging difficulty, it's an unfun one. You don't feel satisfied by taking out basic ass enemies just because they kill you in two hits.

The statues are also annoying as shit. You can kill them the way you described, but from my experience it takes insane patience because you'll knockback them onto the staircase (the first statue you encounter), and they just will NOT walk towards you from there and at a certain point you have an impossible angle to attack.
