Also Longmire, I would love to have your thoughts on Sleepy's new direction
Well since you asked, for those who don't care, just skip this, it will be long since I got asked:
My thoughts? Surprised, but not surprised. For those who have been with Sleepy from the start, there was an almost cat and mouse type playfulness when Vi and Evie caught and raped Nancy. Yes, it was rape, but the way it was played off was Nancy was more like "Why me" and actually enjoying it, rather then it being something dark and vicious.
Then slowly, it started to become darker to the point of sadism. With certain characters, they got the more light hearted stuff (The Putz), but others started getting the raw end like Country Girl, Pam, Foreign Exchange Student and Nancy who went from being forced to enjoy it to proper rape as seen in "Nancy's Day Off" where she was being fisted and clearly not getting off on it against her will. The whole thing with Nancy was played off that Vi and Evie would have their fun with her, wipe her memory with hypnotism and start over. Nancy had an inkling but given her air headedness, no harm, no foul. But as we saw in "Nancy's Day Off", Nancy was fisted and left there strung up and discarded, no hypnotism as Evie was raped by Trixie instead. That Dark and vicious theme I talked about. Hell, even Nancy's Aunt was brought into it and Sleepy double dipped his toes into the pool of Incest with Family Value (Putz and Evie being related) and then Nancy and her Aunt doing each other. Things were slowly getting dark and darker again in a way we saw Sleepy never touch on before. Nancy was always the foil for everyone to use and abuse when it came to Evie, her Aunt and Vi. "Jailhouse Bunny" changed that again when the black inmates raped Nancy, leaving her a mess the next morning as one would expect after being raped all night. No memory wipe again. Darker and darker.
We also used to see more guest appearances with Carmilla and Selene (my all time favourite), but of late, we barely see any extras, only in one shot images or in the case of Carmilla, appears in FV and "To Catch a thief", only to do absolutely nothing with what was implied. What do I mean by that? Well remember when in FV, Carmilla tells Leopold not to reveal that Carmilla knows about the 3some when Leopold turned the video call on the phone around to film the 3some of Evie, Vi and Putz?? Then when she DOES appear next, she is pissed and punishing Evie about being blackmailed and the whole plot of Carmilla knowing about the 3some is thrown away with one line by Carmilla to a minion to go look and check on Putz. No what makes Putz special, no why was she seemingly angry over a 3some? Nothing. A whole comic later in "To break a thief" and we are still none the wiser as Carmilla has outright disappeared from being knocked out with Evie's special drug.
Instead, Sleepy had a story direction clearly revolving around Trixie for the last few comics outside of FV as seen first in "Like a thief in the night", extended through to "Nancy's Day Off" and coming to a head in the back to back comics of catch and break a thief. Why did Sleepy want this Trixie arc? Maybe at the time he wanted to go in a direction of more direct darker bdsm/slavery/torture, but now looking back, he sees he went too far and wants to go back to his more fun style he used to do years ago.
I should point out that all of the above, I don't have a problem with, Sleepy is entitled to do what he wants and we as his fans either stick with it or move on. I used to be a fan of an artist called "John Doe" years ago but when he started making his girls look more and more underage, that was it for me and I stopped following him. Same with Sabudenego. I loved his art and his "Sex Arcade", but then he started going all in on futa, goblins and other shit, along with his art quality looking like sketches and that was it for me there too. But I digress, I was surprised Sleepy went back because for a while it looked like this darker theme was his go to now with his Universe, but I am also not surprised because that wasn't his bread and butter when he started out. So the new comic he released "Isekai", which has a more Dungeons and Dragons fantasy style story feel so far with Evie in an alternate universe? Yeah that is harking back to his old days when he used to do short comics of super heroes and fantasy before he went all in with the Nancy universe and hardcore bdsm.
The question will now be how erotic will the new direction be, how "sexy" it is because for those who followed Sleepy for years, they will recall how one of his standards for drawing and doing stories was "How sexy is this to me?". Will Sleepy still enjoy doing this more lighter theme? Will it be sexy to him? It is early days of course, I still remain a fan of his because his art work is still beautiful, Evie is still awesome and I am interested to see where this change in tone goes.
