The Developer didn't abandon it for a worse game; he abandoned SOV3 because of the Patreon debacle and because he was no longer able to fund its production. That's a very big difference.

There are other sites that can be used much better than Patreon. From what i see the dev (Blue Axolotl) likes to start many project at the same time or one after the other. Off course he wont have time or money for all of them. Then again throwing games at us and not finishing them is not a rarity here.
