For everyone having issues here are my tips. First is do the tutorial, it explains wall kicks.
In the settings (pause menu) disable the wall kick camera flip, this allows you to do wall kicks but you have more control over where you want to go. For example you can wall kick onto a ledge to the left or right of the wall you kicked off of.
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT STEALTH! Just go fast. The dash jump (learn in the tutorial) allows you to nearly outrun the enemy. The penalty for getting caught doesn't matter because when the scene is done you just go back to where you were. If you get caught 3 times you "fail" but you keep ALL the upgrades and secrets. So you can just go back to where you were.
You can abuse the pink areas. If the enemy is after you when you hide in the area stand still. After the 5 second timer is up where you go invisible (again in the tutorial) the boss despawns and appears at its spawn point. (This is possible to do NOT in the pink area but harder. Crouching under stuff can help.)
There is a (potentially unintended) way to transfer momentum to get to hard to reach spots. Using your "Hex" ability by pressing T you store a location. When you hit enter you teleport to it. This is the second ability you unlock after fire. When you teleport you keep your momentum. So if you place the hex near a high platform and step on the air lift (green sigil) and then immediately press enter, you FLY upwards wherever you put the hex. You can skip the water ability with this and you can get basically every secret this way.

Hopefully this helps. The game is fun enough for me to have played through once normally and once trying to get all secrets.
That's a lot of incredibly helpful info, and while I do appreciate it, I believe I've encountered a bug in that when I try to lose the demon by holding still, he doesn't respawn and instead hovers over where I last got spotted, which is quite annoying. Not enough to ruin it for me, but it is a discrepancy between what I've got going on and what everyone else seems to be experiencing.

he only despawns if he is chasing you. aka the chase music is playing. otherwise he will hover over where you last made sound. you can only make sound while not crouched

Ahh! Okay that makes more sense, I could have swore he was chasing me but that tracks more. Cheers for clearing it up mate.

Three more tips. there is an advanced tutorial through a crawl space after the jump tutorial, and doing a wall jump gives you momentum backwards, even if you do a sideways wall jump, or more importantly, a backwards one. so to wall jump onto somewhere you have to be facing either to the side of or away from the wall you want to jump onto. yes you can jump backwards into a wall and then wall jump onto it if the camera flip is off. the sooner after jumping that you wall jump, the higher your jump will take you.
