Or everyone lets their imagination run wild and creates their own fantasy... As we do in many books and films. Or are there so many people who need someone to hold their hand and tell them what to think and how the world is? ;) :p
Try to be real human that do not need some T, P or N or M or else feeling what to think or what to feel. :devilish:
With all due respect, this comparison is absurd.
This story revolves around two people living together. The exact relationship between those two people is essential to the kind of feelings the game it's trying to arouse or the message it intends to convey. You can let your imagination run wild and have them be a primary school teacher and her now adult former student, but in a VN of this type that personal choice of yours will most probably lead to ridiculous situations/conversations.

When you read a book, you create your own mental image of the characters' looks, voices, etc. but I've yet to read a novel revolving around two characters where you never even know what kind of relationship they have.

I have.

And even in those bizzare fever dreams, whenever that bigass roach interacted with his sister, Kafka let you know she was just that. Not some vague undefined person that just happened to exist in that house. Because that would be dumb asf and nonsensical, even for the dude who became famous for making no sense...

Yes, I've read the Metamorphosis. From the very beginning we know who Gregor Samsa is, what he does for a living, that he lives with his parents and his younger sister, who the people are that visit the house or stay there, etc.
The story is surreal and metaphorical, but the relationships among those taking part in it are absolutely clear.
This is his only novel I've read so far, so I can't tell if this is not the case in his other works.
