Like the only reason I'm here is cause when you limit spots on patreon, those spots never open up unless someone stops paying, which just isn't likely.

It's most likely because he wants to avoid the people leaking his contents as much as possible
Yeah he got to the original thread a while ago and he was so mad that his stuff was being shared "before he got big" (despite people there giving him genuine advice to lower his prices) that now it looks like he's intentionally limiting his subscribers just so that stuff takes a bit longer to leak out...
You can on patreon, I've seen a lot of artists do it for higher, comission/request level tiers (some creators even manually kick patrons to lower tiers month to month so the same people aren't the only ones requesting month to month) but from what I've gathered, Somato doesn't do this. It seems that if you're subbed, you can stay subbed until you stop paying, meaning the slot never opens up (especially since last I checked, every tier on his patron had limited slots). I think I saw someone bring it up in this thread as something Somato does to keep "bad actors" from leaking content.
