The Situation!

In preparation for this upcoming roadmap (targeting old characters) we were poised with a tough decision. Work through 5 year old programming, or rip it apart and rebuild it better. The answer was simple, the reason we avoided these characters for so long was because they were a mess. So it had to be done, a tear down! Well we went from the warning screen right through to the end of the game (minus the prison). What does this mean? Well we need extensive testing to make sure all is well (or close to well). So, that is where we are at, we are trying to close all the loose ends needed to push this update.
When will the update go out

This we cannot say at this point, could be in two days, could be later. Right now our main priority is to get this out to you guys.

After this update is out, we are in a prime position to finish off all the old characters.. Thank you all for your continued support and being patient.

What a load of bullshit. You don't tear apart old code databases to fix them. You update them as you introduce more organized, streamlined, and better working code. It takes very little extra time in the long run. A first year comp sci student would tell you that you'll only get ass fucked in the long run if you ever continue development past a point where old code and new code exist in tandem unless you've already made sure that they're compatible with each other. This is why I do not and will never donate to any patreon. With only a small handful of exceptions, virtually every single major and minor patreon funded video game project would get every single person working on it fired a dozen times over by any developer or publisher not operating out of their mom's basement.

I won't believe it until I actually see an old character get a decent update.
We won't
Lois is mostly complete
Also who did not see this coming
For a game developer company
If you have a project deadline and will not meet it before the intended release you let your customers know early

You don't let them get angry and annoyed for days or weeks at a time before you give a notice update

^ That won't happen on Patreon. Take for example Summertime Saga : last update was around Xmas, new 1 was early May. People were moaning their lives away claiming the dev was a scamlord and they deserved more for the $ they spent waiting. Guess what ? He made ~5k new patrons and about 8-9k$ per month within the week the update came out. Unless people wake up (and I mean really wake up), nothing on Patreon will ever move. Either the system is too lax or people are too happy to throw $ at random, in any case you won't change much alone and you won't convince ~30k dudes to stop pledging overnight (dunno how many people are on SU, just throwing Summertime #s)

Back in time of Jan 2020

You wanted it, so we’re giving it to you!
That’s right we are going to begin to focus on older characters. This means your favorite girls (WW,Huntress, Black Canary, Zatana, etc…) will begin to start getting content in 2020. New girls will still be added (because you know us, and we will add more), it just means the majority of content you will get this year will be of old characters.

Completion Updates Are Gone

No more promise of a completed character, during a cycle. Completion updates put us in a very tight box, and it resulted in lots of stress and buggy builds. So we are doing away with those updates. Instead you will get a sprinkling of content for several characters, that will include sex! We’re hoping this means higher quality builds, with less bugs.

No Formal Roadmaps!

That’s right, we will not be saying who and where content will be focused month to month. So in order for you to get an understanding of who is being worked on you will have to pay attention to Streams, Discord, Twitter, and Patreon.

Roadmap
February: Halloween, plus clean up
April: Old character focus begins!

Overall 2020

June/July: Gunsmoke Games website
This will be the main area for you to get your Gunsmoke Games content! Fully incorporating Patreon API, and a traditional forum where you can have discussions outside the realms of our discord.

Throughout 2020 The beginning stages of OC work, leading to an eventual release on Steam.

SU on Android

Bend or Break
Finishing this project, and releasing on Newgrounds, Android, and exclusive Patreon content

So we're completely off the rails atm. Personally, I'd believe it more if it was a delay with the covid-19 affecting development in some way instead of this

I'm enjoying the poor saps that funded this along those that defend it.

Cant wait for an eventual delay on supposedly being in a prime position to finish all the old characters this year if we're lucky

I believe the biggest problem is: They have no road map to actually finish the game.
Good luck for those poor saps who keep funding them.

Patreon supporters don't need to wake up, that's never going to happen. Most people who contribute to a Patreon don't put in a lot of money per month. So it's easier to forget about it because the line on your credit card statement that says "Patreon" is probably the cost of single trip to your favorite fast food restaurant. Patreon itself is what needs to change, the company needs to start implementing a proper set of rules and regulations for the release of content. Until something along those lines happen, for every project like Treasures of Nadia that puts out worthwhile content on a regular basis, you'll have dozens upon dozens of projects that don't. Even Summertime Saga isn't the best example of a Patreon project gone wrong. Its development team is in regular contact with its followers, with the main artist streaming content made for current and future updates. They may be slow to release, but the updates are consistently good, consistently high quality, consistently worth playing. You can't say that about Something Unlimited. They didn't announce the delay until days into the release windows, which itself was already a week late.

If I had a dime for everytime some of these developers said "where fixing up prior mess but as soon as it's finished things will be much faster from here on out", just to become even worst...

Well, (another) missed release date is not a big surprise. Worse news is what is hidden between the lines.

If the news is true and they did put significant effort into reworking old codebase, that also means SU Rebuilt project is not going to happen anytime soon if ever.

I was hoping they would find someone to continue the work after Locke left but it does not look like it. :(

They have, Don't worry. They've hired a part time programmer to replace Locke since he left the team. I feel like he should probably be more than part time, but at least they have a programmer

I just really don't understand why they even bother with excuses or make something :cautious: they can just go offline and make money maybe after 4-5 monts somebody stop pledge

Then why do they constantly boohoo that Sunset does this by himself? Why isn't the programmer doing the programming for the game that nets em 30k an update? Why hasn't the rebuild been spoken of since Locke left, probably due to him wondering why Smoke was getting more than a hundred dollars a month for writing patreon posts. Why are they wasting an update reconfiguring the game if they're just going to be moving to one that's built ground-up to be the new default? Why are they choosing to have a throwaway update with barely anything beyond Lois content to follow up their most delayed and meh update which was preceeded by the longest drought SU has seen?

So many questions :KEK:
