Is this game worth trying? I have downloaded it a few times in the past and each time I try and get into it the game just seems overly complex.

If I were you, I'd definitely give it a go. It's simple enough, and way less complex than some of those 'VNs' of late. Just make sure you apply for college before the 1st of september, and you'll be fine.
There's translated cheat & non-cheat qsp's included in the link in the OP, so use either-or.

Pretty much done almost everything legit and it's kind of a grind to get anywhere legit. That being said the Translation Project page has version labeled

which has cheats and since they aren't half-assed translated it's easy to figure out what variable does what. shit ton of content if you don't just cheat your way through it all but not that hard if you can fuck with the girls stats and your $ as well as the time of day. If you've never played this game before and it's a first time download, don't replace the .exe with the translated qsp's you download, go to assests/standalone_content and delete the .QSP and replace it with one of the cheat/translated .QSP of your choice.

I downloaded it three times I think and couldn't get past the horrible engrish and complexity, but the third time I persevered for a bit of time and it's really one of the bestsame, tried it and then never touched it again

I suppose you mean with Alena... There is a scene with her in the no-rape path (after you can have sex with her). You should ask her to go with you in your attic. Sometimes you go in the attic to fuck, sometimes you fuck in the car because her husband keep her on the phone.

This new panel of cheats in the game bothers me a lot. I prefer it as I used it before, needing to go into configs to access the cheat of money and other less powerful ones. It is so easy that it seems to have lost its grace, even trying to restrain me using it, is the panel polluted with numbers and arrows...
