Sounds not working in some renpy games

All of a sudden some of my renpy games stopped playing either the background music or all sounds completely. My sound everywhere else works just fine, other programs/games play sound, just some/most renpy games stopped playing music. Can anybody help?

Games I have that are affected are:
Big Brother
Dating My Daughter
Lab Rats

Others may be affected but I actually throw a few dollars at the creators of these games so I wanna get the sound in them working again if I can.

I really have no clue why the music stopped working though. Help?

It's not Big Brother, at least Big Brother is not the sole reason for the problem. I've tried all the "did you unplug/reset the modem" type troubleshooting tho. The sound in some games still won't work properly. My volume is maxed out on the pc and in the games, no sound. When I look in the volume mixer as the game is playing, the game shows up but still no sound plays. I know it's not renpy in of itself because some renpy games work just fine, Dreams of Desire being one (I recommend people try it out too!), but I don't know why that game and others work while most others don't for me. It's seriously weird, especially in the case of Dating My Daughter which plays sound effects but no background music... it might also be one of the "cutest" games I've ever played (I recommend trying it as well).

Big Brother def had background music. It never changed and there were no options for it, but it was there... I can literally hear the song in my head. It's rather catchy actually. Dating My Daughter also has it, for sure, even has a menu slider for the volume.

I know I'm not crazy, these games def have music.

This is old post sorry for opening again, but i can't hear any sounds either 100% volume (game and volume mixer) on DreamingofDana-0.099-pc , Big Brother 0.13.0.007, Dating my Daughter v.0.17 Chp.2, SuperPowered_v0.23.00-pc among few others (Win10 Pro).
I have used compatibility modes to Win 7 and started as admin plus all the other playback/recording devices are disabled. Some older posts from as far as 2012 that i found through google said it's too old renpy lib issue that creates no sound problem if you have Realtek HD sound drivers installed (which i have, but devices are disabled and i use only headset with own soundcard not the motherboard one) or too many playback devices installed, but i have disabled all so there shouldn't be any problems.
1st i was reading that 7.1 headphones that are connected through usb port might have issues with renpy lib's, but no i took headset off from usb cable that has virtualized 7.1 soundcard at the end of it and attached headset straight into front panel, but still no music or any other sounds.
Man this issue bugs me i don't want to play almost every renpy lib game i play without sounds.
I hope some of you guys could bring some light into this issue.

Edit: I'm starting to think this must be some kind of codec related issue as i have all vcredists from 2005 to 2017 and latest graphics drivers and latest directx (dxdiag didn't show any issues)

Edit2: Nah it's something else no codec overlap etc. and i tested windowed/fullscreen switching also, but sound did not appear (multiple game restarts also and booted machine after disabling/changed bios audio settings).

I've also had this issue for a long time, but only with certain games (my girlfriend's amnesia and paradise falls come to mind). I've tried everything under the sun and still no luck.

I fixed this problem for me. You have to run the .exe as an administrator.

hey did you find a way to fix it? im bored at playing renpy games with no sound, well not all renpy games but most of them i cant hear anything there is no sound i hope someone knows how to fix it

Not all renpy games have sound, even if they still have the volume sliders in the settings menu. Others can use what sound they have very sparingly. Make sure the sound is on and turned up in the games, and the computers volume mixer (also try the advice above).

Also having this problem again. I had no sound in Ren'Py games and somehow fixed it a while back. I don't know what I did, but it's back to not working again. Games that I know have sound because I've played them with sound are now silent.

On Windows 7, have run as admin and double checked that the game isn't muted in the sound mixer. It's at full volume, just no sound. Google shows this is a common issue, but no working solutions.

Some Ren'py games have no sounds in them it up to the developer whether to put them in.

For example, Haley's Story has volume controls in the settings. In addition, the running game has its own slider in the volume mixer, but I don't hear anything. It is surprising that the game has no 'sound' subfolder. Maybe the sound was 'forgotten' ...?

Most Ren'Py games I've played seem to use the same default menu (just with different colours and fonts), so they all have the sliders even if there's no sound.

I hve this issues many times (in games that Have sound. like "Four_Elements_Trainer"(which has sound!)
, and i think many users have this problem(but most fap then on other content and don´t report it!)!
Just looked at the renpy forum, the devs seem to ignore(don´t give a fuck on us), this issue(maybe i´m wrong)!

On "Dating My Daughter" i had no sounds(nothing) on win7, so i never played it!
Sounds are definetly no less important than pictures(animations)!!!
Now, on Linux(opensuse, therfore) i have this issue in more, and more porn games!(like: Four_Elements_Trainer)!

Is renpy broken?

I think the only sound in Dating My Daughter is a noise when you save. As gamersglory said some Ren'Py games just don't have any sound, it's not a bug there just weren't any added in. Especially the older games.
