I understand that many people are into the kink "ugly old fatso bangs hot girl", but why all male characters are really repulsive? If I can give an advice, I think inserting a normal or good looking dude as antagonist of the weirdos could make a more funny scenario. But that's only my opinion probably the author has a different vision. Probably I'm not the target of this kind of VNs with ugly people (me being a famous male fashion model, obviously).
Considering existence of literal hundreds of "choose your own adventure" books (contrary to the claim no such novels exist) i think you are basically disagreeing with reality.
It's fine to choose the kinetic format to save yourself work involved with implementing multiple storylines. But it has really nothing to do with helping your creativity as the author. I'd say it's the opposite -- it takes extra creativity to recognize and come up with multiple storylines covering potential branches, vs doing just the one that's your personal set of choices regarding where the plot goes.
Slightly more on topic: man, this "space academy" is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren't they. They'll take pretty much anyone by the looks of it.
