Why can't the devs band together and create a site or platform like patreon so they can do their shit in peace.

Because they'd still have to use the same payment processors either way, meaning they'd still have to follow the same rules or get cut off just the same as now.

That's because they are small enough that Mastercard doesn't care, just about every major digital payment processor in the West is owned by them (that includes Stripe). It's done on purpose and the pattern is always the same, a platform starts up and there are little to no rules (as long as there are no legal violations) and then AFTER it gains enough of an audience that it won't instantly die from censorship is when the hammer comes down.
