Euuughhh...
This game started so well, but it felt like a complete waste of time by the end. The amount of time I've invested into this game and this review makes me feel like I've wasted my entire day
Spy Mission ~ A Noble's Maid ~ feels like an early version of an early access game—the skeletal structure of something that has plenty more potential.
Instead, we get something that feels barely thought out and probably untested from my relatively buggy experience.
The prologue was great; the story sets up the characters, the stakes, and gives you a sex scene with an already corrupt character to show the potential consequences—a character that the game purposely lets you bond with because this is one of the few games that actually understands the NTR genre.
This game actually focuses on developing your relationship with the various characters of the manor; it understands the genre and its goals far better than most NTR games. This section of developing the maids was a great experience, and it kind of lulled me into a false sense of security as I played around the manor, completing various tasks for two hours.
Two hours without a single sex scene. But when I finally got one, it felt impactful and earned.
Later, however, a lot of the really big problems started to seep through. As mentioned earlier, this game has a brutally slow pace, and the dating and corruption mechanics are extremely poorly thought out. I'm personally not that interested in NTR, and this game just lets you... not get NTR'd... Do you want to know what happens if you avoid every easily avoidable NTR scene? You don't get
any sex scenes throughout the entire game.
The happy ending, where you get the main girl, literally has no sex scene. You can blame me for picking the options I did, but these aren't always clear options in the moment. You don't know what's going to lead to a sex scene or not, and to be honest, you'd be forgiven for thinking the option that doesn't lead to any sex scenes is the one you should pick.
I'll admit, I did save and reload a few choices here and there that led to sex scenes, but ultimately stuck to the main girl's route.
Through this, I discovered...
If you stick to the main girl, you will never unlock another character's sex scene.
If you don't let the main girl get corrupted, you will never get a sex scene past the prologue.
Are you beginning to understand how poorly thought out this is? The fact that you can just... accidentally lock yourself out of all the game's porn content by complete accident is fucking absurd.
Well, it gets worse. Let's say you do betray your canonical in-game girlfriend (Azami) and attempt to date one of the other girls in the game. Space and time itself will literally distort to cuck you by changing the sequence of events before your very eyes. What do I mean? I mean, if you select "yes," the ninja girl will get caught by guards that were tailing you all along; if you select "no," these guards never appear. A smarter game would have noticed this inconsistency and literally turned it into an interesting plot point, but there's nothing smart here.
If you betray your girlfriend, Azami, the girl you picked over her will finally get an NTR sex scene. These vary from being decent the first time to being completely forgettable and very sudden. For instance, a girl might go from zero corruption and minimal interaction with the villain to immediately having sex with them. The game understood the part where the protagonist bonds with and falls in love with the girls but completely forgets to actually develop the girls sexually, so it just suddenly happens like a bad fanfic blew into the room.
So once you lose a side girl this way, you'll have her first sex scene, and she becomes fully corrupted in 'five sex scenes' and once she's fully corrupted, you get her second scene. How long does this take? Well, once a night, a random girl from the manor is chosen to participate in a sex scene that evening. The same-sex scene will repeat five times in a row with identical dialogue. And she won't get corrupted if she isn't chosen. You may have to genuinely sit around grinding out months of in-game time to unlock the second scene for every character. And one character's second scene is actually the same artwork with different text!
It's so absurd and time-consuming that I have to question if this game was tested at all. I didn't unlock any of these scenes and only checked them out later by viewing them in the files because, of course, this game's gallery is extremely limited. You can only view content after you've seen it, and if you've locked yourself out of that content, you can't unlock it in the gallery. You'd have to start a new game from scratch if you want to undo that, and that might take you up to half an hour of skipping through dialogue.
This game is the bare minimum in every sense. Lazy gallery, no sex scene on the happy ending; you can even visit a brothel to select a girl, and there's no associated sex scene, dialogue, or anything; just a fade to black on a bed. Fucking hell, Bethesda games have better sex scenes than this.
Despite finishing the happy ending and viewing every first scene, when I checked the game's files, I discovered that I missed about 70% of the sex scenes. It turns out the main girl has tons of them, even though she's extremely easy to prevent corruption with. Meaning the only way to really get any sex scenes in this game is to let the main girl get corrupted on purpose and specifically betray her, which kind of defeats the point of these games for me. There's no tension in actively pressing the "yes, cuck me, please" button. I want there to be tension in the gameplay mechanics and difficult choices that need to be made. I should be making choices like, "Should I prevent my girlfriend's corruption tonight or go on a one-time date with this cute maid?" NTR Knight is a similar game that performs better in every metric because you simply can't be there to prevent every source of corruption, giving every action that advances time weight and forcing you to carefully balance your priorities. It's not even a particularly satisfying process of corruption either; when I checked the main girl's corruption scenes, I just ended up seeing the same similar scenes over and over. Afterwards, she's gained +2% corruption on that body part! The next night was exactly the same scene.
And one final complaint that is hard to fit in anywhere else but is kind of the cherry on top for how poorly thought out this game is... Azami is the main girl and the girlfriend of the protagonist, but... for some reason, she's literally the only girl you can never talk with and never bond with. I'm serious; you can't talk to her ever. You'd be forgiven for forgetting she's even around if you didn't have to go bang on her bedroom wall every night to stop her from getting molested.
This results in the main girl being by far the least developed, least interesting, and having the fewest lines in the entire cast, despite having the most sex scenes. Oops!
