RPGM - Star Knightess Aura [v0.48.3] [aura-dev]

    tl;dr
    • actual content
    • great overall design for an RPGM title
    • not forced to go full smut if you don't want to
    • (subjectively) funny dialogue tidbits
    • an actual role-playing game
    • 420/69 stars, so like 6/5

    Full review:
So, this is an actual game, as in quests, combat, and all.
I absolutely hate RPGM games, but the artwork is great and so is the UI. The game has tons of character interactions (many of them lewd, of course), so really, when it comes to the story and the content, there is much to see and do.

I also like all the random light novel references in aura's mindspace and the general corny, but relevant humor. It's good that a lewd game isn't taking itself very seriously, yet seriously delivers on content, so it actually puts the RP in the RPGM quite well, because the player ultimately has control over Aura.

I see this game as having essentially two playstyles - star knightess path where you try to save the world true to Aura's original intent, and the corruption you pick up you spend to minimally alter Aura. The alternative is to go full slut, which is arguably the more fun path. But this is where you come in, and decide which mix of fun and indulgence you want to allow for Aura, and whether your control of Aura leads to meaningful interactions for you.

I also want to say that I appreciate not making a shitty sim game where we would have to go put on clothes, go to class, yada yada until night comes. This focus on only meaningful interactions IRL and the actual gameplay in the otherworld is a great way to showcase the mental changes and Aura's preferences without over-encumbering the player to slog through mindless interactions.

Best of luck in the development and thank you for a fun and memorable game!

Really solid slow corruption game, definitly a time sink but only due to it being a good exsperiance that leaves you wanting to play more 5/5 easy, also the brand of corruption is very unique, as its normaly just turning a girl into a slut but with this you have the whole 'popular girl' trope played out and it's very entertaining, (there is still some classic fantasy world slutting to get ahead tho)

A great corruption RPG so far! Surprisingly fresh feeling for such a saturated genre. In the game you play as Aura, an intelligent, headstrong and justice loving girl but who gets corrupted over the course of the game, slowly, like really quite slowly which is the part of the game I enjoy the most. How gradually Aura's changes occur and how the game spends time for all involved characters to react to these changes is really well done. On the art front the game is okay to good, not incredible but definitely not a turn-off. The writing is strong, its anime style dialogue is clear and charming (and in fluent english). Combat is decently challenging and requires forethought. At the time of writing this, the game is about 50% to 1.0 according the the developer and I'm excited to see where the game ends up.

I don't understand how this game is getting 5 star reviews, especially from the people listing all the flaws in the game. Some are even giving it 5 stars because they anticipate it getting better. That's ludicrous.

I'll rate this game as it is NOW. Maybe I'll update this later. This game needs a LOT of work. It's mindnumbingly slow. I've play Visual Novels that have gotten to the hentai aspect faster. And when it finally gets there, it doesn't build upon it.

Also for a hentai game, it spends way too much effort in creating frustration in the non-hentai aspects. Some players may be sticking with this game because they feel they've devoted so much time into this aspect, that they need to see the game through. This is sunk cost fallacy. What separates hentai games from other games is the hentai. That's where the focus should be, and it shouldn't require arduous effort to get there. Having mini games and puzzles is fine, but when players have to rely on a guide to make progress (and just look at the number of posts asking for a guide), then something went wrong with the design.

The art is fine, but that's really the only real saving grace for the game. Perhaps if it receives an overhaul in the future to make the gameplay more fluid with better paced plot progression, it will earn a higher rating.

I dont understand how this game only has 3.9 stars at this moment.
Espacially with the new interface, everything feels super polished, the story is great, charakters are intressting and events are cool. It doesnt feel like you are playing a straight storyline even tho it is mostly. The only downside is that sometimes it feels like there are peaces left but thats obv. because its still in develepment. Im hyped for the released version. Gonna keep an eye on this one

    REVIEW on 0.25.0
    REVIEW WILL BE UPDATED.

Has old school hentai game vibe, meaning - wall of text with story already told about 20 billion times by now. If you are new to this genre, it's gonna be a blast, if you are 20+ yo veteran like me, you probably gonna rolleyes several times per second reading this hot garbage. I digress however, as this hot garbage used to be interesting to me. So take this as difference in experience, not a valid fact.

Game and it's story is very slow, painfully even. However it does compliment the narrative and corruption build up well, still, that will not save this one for going directly to trash bin.

I give you example- In the following intro just 5 seconds in to the game.
A girl in the middle of some vortex, her first words are.
    "Eh?"
Then you have to click to continue.
-She turns around in one direction
    "Eh"
Then you have to click to continue.
-She turns around in other direction
    "EH!?"
Then you have to click to continue.

You get the idea. Now sure, game has skip button, but if you want to actually read the story, to actually follow the story , prepare for some atrocious time wasting and even more clicking to progress that endless walltext.

You think that's all to it? Entire intro battles there, are pointless.
To my understanding intro is there to tell you few gameplay gimmicks such as , enemies can be avoided, where you can heal, and to explain to you story and settings.
You can actually lose in the intro. Even if you are "godlike" strong.
And entire intro is about 20 minutes long if you actually read and play.
20 minutes of "gamplay" that can be summerized with a good design in about 30 seconds. With the gameplay tips.

Yeah atrocious first impression, everybody with photoshop and good drawing skills are making games today, yet they are absolutely clueless about the pacing and design.

As for porn part, there are far few in between, I advice to wait for a year or two(if not abandoned by then) and just watch the gallery to save yourself time and frustration.

Nice gameplay. Reminds me of old gameboy games. Almost stands without the porn. I hope the story gets a satisfying ending at some point. Seems like that is one of the hardest thing to do these days. But for now I'll keep checking for updats now and then. Runs well on my Samsung

Very slow and methodical corruption story, definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but the slow buildup for the brainwashing and subsequent corruption is, in my opinion, worth the time. On top of this, gameplay is top-notch, I have not seen a turn based RPG this challenging and engaging since Shin Megami Tensei, and if you find it too hard or easy you can change the difficulty (though hard is very unbalanced).

Biggest problem I can point out is the severe lack of actual HCG scenes, but since is still in development and story seems to ramping up speed in this regard, this might change in the future.

Excellent game. Good graphics. Fun story. Interesting system to add to corruption. Overall the game is a five out of five stars for sure. One of the best games on this website. I will keep this game on my list of gams to continue to play as more updates are released.

    Gameplay
    • More puzzle-like than usual. You either have the correct spell/tool to beat the enemy or it wipes the floor with you.
    • Tactical advantage is very RNG and annoying. Early on the enemies do a crazy amount of damage and your advantage being a 50% chance to dodge means you might just get wrecked anyway which means either taking the deaths or spamming reload until RNG stops fucking you.
    • Holy water prices should not go up on their own. They should go up each time you purchase. The rationale of holy water is in high demand so thats why the prices are high falls flat when you see the stock get up to like 30+ and they're selling it for over 1k each. Wtf
    H Content
    • Way too few and far between for how long the game is
    • Not enough light scenes for a corruption kindof game. Needs more groping and pushing Aura's boundaries. This ties in with just a general lack of progressing H scenes. For example, instead of 4 guards that have very quick 1 off scenes and then they just go back to being generic NPC, it would be better to have just 1 guard progressing through 4 scenes as he keeps pushing Aura to do more.
    • Just weird missed opportunities. John gets an H scene for his first training session with Aura but then afterwards doesn't pursue it further for his second training session? No tavern scenes until you're super deep into the game and even those take a weird direction. No IRL scenes until again super deep into the story. Hermann actually waits until after marriage to fuck Aura. He also talks about training her and bragging about how he fucked her in the ass but when the relationship finally starts moving it feels like just skips all the grooming.
    • The IRL scenes just in general. Alicia corrupts Aura IRL with fashion magazines and shoes? (and there are way too many shoes scenes) Where are the pervy students who want to cop a feel? I would rather see nerdy Aura being corrupted into letting perverts have their way with her but still being a nerd then spend HOURS with no IRL H scenes as Aura goes from a nerd to an insufferable, shallow, idiot. Definitely not the kind of corruption you'd think you were gonna get from an H game.
Generally, I really love corruption games. but this game's pacing needs work Brainwashing really doesn't do it for me and I hate seeing Aura go from a modest nerd to a gaudy, shallow, bitch. (Note that I don't say slut since currently she hardly does anything IRL). Maybe this is all done this way because the dev hasn't finished implementing everything but the game in its current form feels like you're just pushing through it on sunk-cost fallacy. The majority of the H scenes don't feel very rewarding and some of them just get cut off at the knees.

Can only hope the dev fills in the gaps in the future but right now the time investment feels like it isn't worth the reward.

I really liked playing this game. The slow burn corruption really fun and the first time i see a game implement a mechanic like this. The beginning is a bit hard, my initial thought was to go to the forest and kill the goblins but they are stronger than you in the start, you're supposed to go to the mines and finish the first mission.

Actions consume a day which at first may seem like a big thing but but afaik the amount of days in game that have past only impact one boss fight.

The game is a little lacking in nsfw content, you need to complete everything and get to the second city if you want to fully turn her into a slut. And mental corruption wise the changes before you get to the second room matter very little. i would really like to see aura change clothing in game too, maybe see her armor get more sluttier, and her speech more corrupted. I think it is cool however that you see a different H-scene if you have low will power.

I get some complaints that you're able to flash your tits before you get any corruption. I think it would be a nice change if that was soft locked.

The combat is fine, you're supposed to abuse tactical advantage to deal way more damage. The dialogue was okay, although i do admit i held down the ctrl key during a large part of it.

People also say they don't like the ntr part of this game but it's practically non-existent so far.

Standards wise I think this should be it. Every RPGM game should strive to be at least this good as this game or better.

this game is not even sustainable. the MC got so much curse that it is affecting your status which make it hard to fight boss and you can't even purchase hp or mp pot without providing the ingredient to the shop. so basically you need to fight a superhard boss without any hp or mp potion. worst part is the more you lost, the weaker your MC will become due to curse. this game is practically unplayable unless if you don't make a mistake or use cheat.

    Hi everyone!

When I first opened this game I didn't have much expectations. Just your typical RPGM game.

The fun started with the tutorial. On this front, this game truly is a RPGM game, which is fun for some, boring for others, I'll come back to this later tho, because the tutorial starts something that I truly cherish in this game. The story. Spoilers ahead (although I will avoid them)!

First of all, there are not so many games that take place in two worlds at once, the execution of this in this game is brilliant imo. You get to control two characters in two distinct phases, none of them in the real world. The game exists in 3 phases. One is the world of Roya, where you live through the fantastical events as the Star Knightess, this looks like a stereotypical game, it is fairly "usual" but feels good. The lewd events in this phase are interesting (also saved in a special room so you don't have to feel pressured to save before a specific scene), and even though they affect a fictional version of aura physically, they leave a mental mark IGRL (In game's real life). Second phase is where you get to play as the other character, you get to change Aura, which essentially lets you see scenes and has some gameplay consequences. The corruption in this game is fantastic, it is slow, so for some people it may be a huge issue. In my opinion it is what adds to the experience, you get to see as the protagonist loses prinicples, hobbies, relationships etc. piece by piece. It is well written and presented and it's something I've never experienced with a game before. The third phase is the IGRL. It is not playable, it's just the scenes that play due to the corruption. It's for the better.

Lastly the gameplay. It's basic. The combat is again, basic. It's fairly easy to snowball some stats high, but the game can become difficult at times. It has a Ng+ system, the bonuses are not neccessary, I'd find them useful only on a purity/virgin run. Overall it's just decent

All in all, amazing game, one of my favourites on this site, 5/5 will come back to it

I'm going to try and not be overly negative because it is clear that the dev has put a ton of work into this game. I think the most kind thing I can say about the game at this point is that it is bloated. Way too much of everything making it needlessly slow and complicated. Dialogue especially suffers not only from way too many lines, but also very poor writing. Very generic animu dialogue that is absolutely grating. I found myself regularly skipping through each scene before turning the game off entirely.

I just don't know how someone could add so much to a game and it comes out so bland.

Just the best. Lots of games are balanced pretty easily; if you just play safe and slow you'll never encounter TF or sexual content. Star Knightess Aura is balanced in a way where if you want to succeed you need to put yourself in the hero's shoes. Outsmart enemies, find the best combo, the counters and weaknesses.

Aura is cursed, and the game treats it that way. If you want to brute force through the story, you're penalized by accumulating corruption. This also gives you the option to roleplay as one of the game's antagonists, which gives the story even greater depth; two main characters, and you're playing against yourself.

These things make Star Knightess Aura unique. Corruption / TF is often very binary, win or lose 100%. The scenario this game gives you implies that it's a 1 in a million chance that Aura would make it out of this scenario unchanged. It does this not just through the story, but also thematically through gameplay.

This is my review after playing this game for more than 30 hours.

I will start from positive 1st then negative one

    Positive

+It has time system where you can do only 1 or 2 per each skill/upgrading depending on condition of you have

+It has story between herself in Fantasy World and Real World which is good point since you can see her in 2 different perspective

+It has alteration system where certain actions will affect her in certain ways

    Negative
-Characters are really bad in term of personality and the way they talk, especially on MC which is very ANNOYING and ARROGANT to see her talk like she KNOW EVERYTHING but in fact she is TOO DUMB to understand how to be objective and be rational. At least make her toned down and be more rational when talking to others, she just hated others when she was being objected and always called other TRASH and LOSER when she being full of herself. I dont understand what author making this or why making her like this. It just make others hate her completely.

-Extremely lack of grinding and everything was being too limited when you finish everything, you cant do anything at all since all resources are 1 TIME ONLY, you screwed up and restart from beginning again. Make them regain resources after several days passed like 2-3 days to make them farmable especially on harder difficulty.

-Time system also become huge burden especially when you are racing against time when you need to progress faster, you need to wait few days to make it avaiable

-Every action in her memory chamber need Corruption points to pay and it was VERY TEDIOUS to repeat again and again just for unlocking one and the easiest way to do it is use your SK and you gain 4 Corruption BUT limited to 1 PER DAY which again is TEDIOUS, just remove this system and we good to go

-Experience for lvling up characters are EXTREMELY LIMITED to Quests only, every single monster encounter DID NOT GIVE EXP at all and it wasting your own time just killing them, make them have EXP and we can progress faster and further. LVL 4 after progressing 20 days is EXTREMELY STUPID since no exp from monsters at all.

-Learning skills are also limited by time since you cant gain them instanly, instead wait for days and you can gain it, this is another tedious and boring implementation where you eventually had enough of this game and quit it since it was not worth waiting it while you meet requirement yet blocked by another unneccesary system.

-Lewd scenes are just lame and boring where your MC are being too full of herself and not even tried to acknowleged herself when she actually have no choice but tried to make that herself are worthy. There is no PRIDE when doing lewd stuff like that and BOYFRIEND things are not applied in FANTASY WORLD, she just being too DELUSIONAL about boyfriend and tried to protect herself while in reality she is massive HYPOCRITE

Negatives are outweighing than positives due points that I said and if devs are not tried to change requirement especially on learning skills and resource avaiability, I am afraid that when it released in mutiple platforms, this will gone badly and nobody tried to buying this game.

Interesting to play, very slow, but with a lot of history and decisions, excellent work.
    Pros:
    -Excellent mechanics
    -Long Game
    -Good narrative/Plot (very entertaining)
    -Good CG Art
    -Very intuitive

    Cons:
    -Very slow progress
-Very few "action" scenes (understandable for a WIP/DEMO)
-A bit challenging in some situations (better play on easy mode)

10/10 (I will definitely buy it when the game comes out)

It's a very slow burn corruption title, backed by inoffensive, if generic, RPGmaker combat and the like. That in and of itself wouldn't be an issue, and it largely isn't.

What is an issue is the writing, the thing that needs to be perfect and spotless for this kind of game. It isn't! While it isn't a harrowing mess like some MTL game, given it's written in native English and all, nor is it typos and grammar mistakes galore (although there's some, but I didn't notice enough to take me out of it) the real issue is the actual writing itself. In short, it reads like a shounen anime. Lengthy shouting, both sides yelling each other's name, etc. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it repeats itself a fair bit and is backed up by generic RPGmaker stuff, so maybe a few facial animations while two sprites look at each other and go "AURAAAAAAAA" "RICHAAAAAAAAAAAARD I'LL KILL YOOOOOOOU" etc. It doesn't really work, it has no gravitas. The more down-to-earth scenes hit a similar vibe, too.

It fails as a basic RPG as well simply because the two antagonists' whole characterization revolves around "I'm an unfeeling sociopath." It all reads like a ProZD sketch, as the protagonist/writing-team has the absolute gall to call them out on being so flat while not actually doing anything about it.

I have very specific tastes and SKA is the game I've been searching after for years. It is an undeniably slow burn and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. If this game seems like your kind of thing, try it right now because it probably is. If it doesn't seem like you'd love it, you probably won't even like it.

As stated earlier in previous reviews, the high rating is more due to the high potential of the game, rather than what it is at the moment.

I must admit, the author puts a lot of effort into this game and it is really noticeable, however, the game has a number of serious shortcomings, which unfortunately can hardly be fixed in any way. So let's go straight to them.

    Negatives

The main basis of the plot is the corruption of the protagonist and her confrontation with the demon king and his right-hand Alicia, who directly brainwashes the protagonist. This is where the main problem lies. Alicia as well as the demon king Richard are the standard of cartoon villains. Their motivation is simple as hell, they do evil just because they can. And everyone else is just trash, unworthy as they see it. And while Richard gets the least attention in the story (which is odd, knowing that he is the archenemy here), his right-hand Alicia not only gets half of the playtime, but is also given the opportunity to play on her behalf and perform brainwashing manipulations. Based on my time with her, I can say that this is probably the worst antagonist I've ever seen. The author tries to show us that she is cunning and is able to calculate a lot beforehand, but from her worldview and all her monologues, she gives the opposite impression. She is essentially a teenage nihilist with an extremely primitive, if not moronic, view on the reality around her. In such stories, where there is a confrontation of several personalities and their views, the figure of the villain plays as much a crucial role as the figure of the protagonist. Take the Star Wars universe, which character comes to mind first? I can guess that it is very likely that you will name the Darth Vader. So if the villain figures are just pathetic, the work loses a lot of its value. Honestly, I had a hard time making myself keep reading Alicia's monologues, I wanted to grab my head and yell, "what the fuck are you talking about?" and then quit the game. Nevertheless, I made it to the second city and did a fair amount of brainwashing manipulation on the heroine to see where it goes. This is where the second significant problem comes in.

Manipulation of the heroine's mind, oddly enough, only affects the real world and has almost no effect in the fantasy world. Maybe this will change in the future, but it seems to me, that the changes that are already in the game should have their effect not only in the real world. Now about the nature of these changes. It may seem like matter of taste, but essentially we're turning the main character into a glamorous bimbo who can spend hours choosing a shitty pair of shoes, spending all her money on looks and gossiping about celebrity’s life. Honestly, this is not the kind of depravity you expect from a game of this genre, not to mention the fact that this kind of behavior is not give you sympathy to say the least. Nevertheless, if you start brainwashing her, be prepared to spend a good hour reading about shoes, fashion magazines, and other crap. Well, it's also notable that we turn the main character into a second Alicia, as she essentially rewrites her to suit herself. Here, it seems to me, the author has taken the wrong path for what the audience was expecting. The genres also include NTR, which suggests that the heroine will be cheating on her boyfriend. And here I think the game could have benefit from it, if focus of the game was set on heroine's sexual discoveries about herself, opening some dark desires such as cheating on her boyfriend. These things would have been much more interesting to look at. There could also have been an emphasis on rewriting heroine’s noble values into selfishness, desire for gain, mercilessness, which could have been reflected immediately in the fantasy world. Not only would it have turned the character from protagonist to villain more quickly, but it might have made her try much harder to prevent these changes. It would also reflect the protagonist's struggle with herself. The game already has willpower, but it has little effect on anything, but you could make thresholds at which the heroine could no longer make decisions as her old self, which would make it necessary to monitor this parameter more, otherwise people would start noticing that the hero does not behave as befitting a hero. And the funny part in it would be if at some point she will find it easier to achieve her goals if she use these foul methods. However, this is purely my vision. What we have now could also work, if the villain who makes this brainwashing would not be so disgusting.

The real world vs. the fantasy world. Here I have mixed feelings about the author's decisions. The main character, despite being intelligent, somehow fails to notice that the voice in her head in the fantasy world uses the same speech patterns (Phrases with 1000% as an example) as Alicia does in the real world. You could argue that if she revealed her true nature right away there would be no corruption, but I don't agree with that. She can't get rid of her influence anyway, and the changes that being made in her mind is hard to prevent. The main drawback here, in my opinion, is that there is no confrontation in the real world. The main character makes almost no attempts to figure out who stand behind this voice, there is no attempt to fight Richard in the real world, although we know that some powers from the fantasy world work in the real world as well. And the fact that, both sides essentially go to the same school and know about each other, but neither of them tries to use the powers for their own purposes raises questions. I realize this may sound cruel, but Richard and Alicia, could simply assemble a gang of thugs and kidnap Aura's friends to blackmail her or threaten to kill her boyfriend and then break her psyche as they wanted. But none of this happens and Aura, who pretending to be an ordinary schoolgirl doing nothing to keep herself and her friends safe.

Last but not least is the visual component of the game. It should be noted that this is my second playthrough of the game. The first time I ran the game over a year ago and encountered a huge amount of placeholders where art was supposed to be. I liked the intro and decided to give the game time to grow with visuals. Unfortunately, even now you can see that there is very little of it in the game. In fact, even the static figures of the main characters are always in the same pose, especially the figure of the protagonist, who always, under all conditions, holds her straightened palm at her hip, which after a while begins to seriously bore and hurt the immersion. As for the quality of the art and scenes themselves, there's one thing to say, it's not bad, but it's not good either. It doesn't have any flavor, it is quite simple in appearance and the problem more or less might not have been serious, considering the size of the game, if number of picture was at least 3 times more than what we have now. But alas it isn't, so I can't think of a reason why I'd want to wait another year to see the rest of the scenes in the game, which are currently without any visuals.

    Positives.

As we are done with the flaws, now we can talk about the pros. The combat system and the rpg component. Despite there are people here who scolding the standard rpgm battle system, I have to disagree with them. It’s not that bad, and many devs, as well as this one, quite heavy modifying it. So If people don't like this system that much, they should block the tag combat in rpgm games and simply do not play them. So here, I will voice my opinion as a person who likes combat in games. The combat system in this game is not quite standard, it has a number of big changes and if you don’t grind money for upgrading your characteristics, you have to approach each battle with a certain tactic in mind. Also, everything is not just so simple, we get experience only for completing quests, rats don’t carry gold (Oh no!) and enemies do not respawn. Here I will say my opinion, which may be very unpopular, but for me personally, this is what I always lacked in such games. I just love to wipe the entire location, so you can enjoy the work that you've done and don’t encounter them again to find that all your efforts were in vain and the enemies miraculously for no reason, revived to start bugging you again. It also opens up a wonderful thing like resource management. Enemies are limited, as are the loot on the map, which makes you plan your actions and how to spend your money. In addition, every 2 days your corruption is rising by 1 point and willpower falls, which negatively affects the stats of the heroine, so you have to think about your strategy. You can earase this effects, though, but keep in mind that resourses are limited, there is great demon invasion after all. So all these is very cool in my opinion. As for those who don’t like difficulties in such games there is a story mode, which you can choose at any time. I haven't tried it myself, but I think it's quite a solution of the problem.

The main character and the other characters except villains. I have to say that the main character and the villains who confront her are heaven and earth in comparison. Aura is written in dozens of times better than all the villains, she is much less suffer from clichés that we’ve seen so many times and generally has a lively mind, which allows her to well navigate in unfamiliar situations and find her way out of trouble. Despite that the heroine is not open to the world of sex, she is not clueless, as is usually the case in such games. Overall, she is not mentally retarded, but rather very intelligent, which is rare for games like this one. And only for that, I would give this game a bold plus. Overall almost all of the positive characters in this game are well written, they are interesting to watch. The main character's companions are also quite interesting, especially John, despite that he's an odd guy, but honestly, I'd rather watch him corrupt Aura in his own way than watch how the villains do it. Moreover, if it was one of the main corruption routes, it would have been much more original.

In conclusion, it is worth saying that this could have been a pretty good isekai, which, has good humor and mocking the genre's typical clichés, but many of the flaws I have listed become for me the stumbling block, which is why I probably will not wait for the next updates of this game. Lastly, I'll say for whom this game is for. If you came for the porn, you are likely leave disappointed. This game is first and foremost about the story and porn is secondary.
