I really admire developers who can extract good renders from this "graphics engine", it is terrible for creators.
You should have seen my first ones. Ugh..
I like how it looks, kind of a blend between realistic and cartoonish/fantasy style. And it was quite easy to pick up, especially for someone who doesn't know much about visuals.

Ah, the same dev who dropped God among kings
So dead on arrival
Yeah... it needed a lot of work. I’ve got maybe a month left, two if I'm lucky. It was so painful to work on, knowing I wouldn’t get to finish what I started with the time remaining.
Sacrificed most of my free time back then, but there’s only so much I could do. Working two jobs, seven days a week, just to afford working on the game. And I’d keep going if I could, but I’ve run out of things to sacrifice. I can’t risk being homeless for 40-something euros a month on patreon.
I don’t blame anyone but myself in the end. The game felt mid to me anyways.
This is all I can afford now. Soon, not even that.

Sounds like you're just feeling sorry for yourself. No offense, but this kind of attitude isn't going to inspire anyone to support you. I didn't play your other game so I don't know if it's good or bad but I will say that there are a lot of games out there that don't get the attention they deserve.

I'm just some rando on the internet so feel free to ignore me but my advice would be to just step away now and stop beating yourself up. Get your real life issues sorted out and come back to game development without this sort of thing hanging over you.

I'm not asking for support. Not anymore. I've warned people that paid before it happened, now paused the billing, issued refunds. Always tried to do right by fellow players.
I got nothing to step away to, my life sucks. Working on the game is the only joy I had left, so I am clinging to it like a fool.
Was a decent run, but it wasn't enough.

All I can say is that I wish you the best & hope you can get your financial situation sorted out. I do appreciate your honestly but the truth is, most people aren't going to be excited to try out a new release that will likely see no updates. No matter how good it is.

About half an hour of content so far. Just something I came up with while waiting to step away from gave development
Depends on how far I get. Originally intended as harem, yeah.

P.S, For those wondering. My previous game failed, I have almost ran out of my savings to keep it afloat after investing 2 years of time on it.
Now I am just waiting before I can no longer move on and have to step away. Working on something helps me stay sane. Thus this little thing.
It's almost certainly over for me. I doubt I'll be able to turn this thing around, I don't believe in miracles. If I could, I'd probably be working on my previous game.

Jesus Christ, dude. First of all, if you are working "two jobs, seven days a week, just to afford working on the game", what does that even MEAN? What does "afford working on the game" mean here? Honey Select 2 and all of its assets are free (technically, thanks to F95 and such), so are you paying a bunch of other people to work on this game instead of you? In that case, what are you even providing for the game? I don't quite understand how your AVN's success is mandatory for you to not be homeless, considering your other two jobs and working 7 days a week.

You also literally say "most of my free time" went to the game. I guess this is a fucking news flash to you but you don't get paid for your FREE TIME. The vast majority of AVN developers do this in our free time as hobbies or side projects, like you're supposedly doing with your two other jobs, except many of us don't expect we should get some kind of hourly wage for working on our passion projects in our free time.

You also say your other project had to die because of lack of funds, so then how do you explain this game then? How could this game even exist without those mysterious "game-saving funds"? What is it about this game that allows you to work on it without those mysterious funds as compared to having to abandon your previous game solely because of it?

The way you try to do whatever it takes for sympathy without explaining anything beyond surface level excuses just comes off as "Please give me money or else" manipulation. If you happen to reply to this and answer legitimately then I'll retract all my statements and apologize but something just doesn't feel right me with your "story".

The reason I stopped working on God among Kings was because the timeframe I have left would not allow me to finish an update in that time. The reason this game exists, is because I cut the time I can allot to making a game. My previous one featured gameplay, all of which I made on my own, and it takes a lot longer to work on it. You can see from my discord progress messages that I have slowed down by like 5x. This game features no gameplay elements and I am focusing more on script, rather than cgs, which also allows me to produce more gametime per point of time spent. Either way, it won't last for long.
I used to have about an hour a day to spend relaxing by making games, but the economic situation here has gotten pretty bad lately, so I will not be able to afford this luxury. Patreon and SubscribeStar billing is paused at this point either way, so I fail to see how it is manipulating.
I could have scrapped everything and went back to living my life, but I enjoy making games and I want to spend the rest of the time I have doing so, and then I get slammed like that.
It just is a little hurtful to see things like that, after sharing my passion with everyone for this long. The game is free, so is the previous one, enjoy them, or don't, I don't pressure anyone into playing, I don't hide the fact that it will end soon. But at the end of a day, everyone will have their own opinion on the matter.

If you truly enjoy making games then maybe that should've been your approach and attitude instead of "woe is me, feel sorry for me, poor me..." If I went to a restaurant and the waitress approached me and immediately goes "Ah, welcome I guess, I don't know or care really, kinda just hate my life and need you to leave a big tip or I'll be homeless. Anyway, what's your order?" then I'd immediately walk out.

Just saying. Good luck to you and whatever real or fabricated situation you have going.

Haven't played the game yet, but being contrarian like this doesn't exactly anyone here. It sucks when something that you put in effort for gets shafted by things out of your control. I really understand and symphatize with that. But trying to pertain to both sides merely just ends up stacking itself into a negative feedback loop.

If your only end goal is merely to bide time until and create until you no longer can, what comes after that? what if the situation gets better after you say you no longer can? what if it gets better as we speak? are you still going to keep biding your time? Will you resent game devving for good once it's all said and done? regardless of what your response is, you will look questionable at the end of the day, and no one is going to be too keen to try out a questionable product, even if it does end up good.

All things considered, take a break man. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for the things or the people you love, is step away from em. Take some time and focus on stabilizing yourself. The hobby will always remain, and so will a good portion of it's audience. So push yourself some and work on you, lest you want the game to embody the negative emotions laden within you

One thing that's certainly true is that I shouldn't be trying to win the internet. Especially on a forum which a terrible medium for a discussion. If anyone feels I've wronged them, I welcome a talk at my discord and I will try to make things right as much as I can.

Funnily enough, it's what gave birth to it. I was sitting one day at home with a fever, tried to work on a game but the dawning realization of not having enough time was being painful. The game's practically lined with the thoughts about that, although I tried to shape them into something more hopeful. I released it as a bonus to the fans. But, I make games so I don't have to think about the stuff in real life, so it was harder than I thought to let go, so I soldier on, for as long as I can. As does the crew, fatigued and shaken. I think it turned out alright.

Ay man, whether you're sick rn, or down on your luck financially or mentally, hope things get better for you. That said, my stance is still the same more or less. Much like how the hobby will never leave you even when you can't indulge it, Life is pretty much the same. Balancing both aspects of it is always gonna be a bitch of a tightrope to walk on, but it's a task you MUST take as long as you choose to pursue the hobby. If it's any consolation, Absence makes the heart grow fonder, which means the more time you spend away from it, the more you'll long to come back to it. I can only hope this would ring true to you ofc, there are exceptions out there I've witnessed and it's never pretty. But regardless of what the outcome is, Life comes first, unfortunate as it sounds. So once again, sort yourself out man. Your game is pretty good, and you've got me curious about your previous work. Would be a shame to never see it grow.

And for the record, Forums are a more general public-esque space compared to servers on discord, so I'd say they're more equally weighed in their opinions compared to the latter.

Yeah, but on the other hand it does not facilitate a proper exploration of the topic. It's stretched over time and gets siderailed as you start to address every point, being unable to focus on one to get to the bottom of it.
And people come here for the game for the most part.

Adjustment MOD

Hi,
I put together a small adjustment modification for this kinetic title, which adjusts how the dialog text and name's are displayed on screen (enhances the dialog text). As well included a mod that allows the user to hide or display the quick menu, which cleans up the dialog text area of your screen.
  • Changed the default textbox to a clear version.
  • Edited a gui file (dialogscreens.rpy) which adds a much darker outline around the dialog and name font.
  • Included the quick menu mod, which is used to hide or display the bottom QM using your Q key on your keyboard.

Install:
Extract and merge the game folder with this titles game folder. Then run your games EXE and enjoy the new visual changes with this small compilation mod.

Regards.

Hello.
Well I really liked what you have produced so far for this pirate kinetic project. And I hope you keep producing more content for this excellent soon to be harem story (at least I hope it continually goes into that direction).

Best Regards.

Looks sleek and clean. Pretty cool what a couple of tweaked numbers can do. Would you mind if I put it in as an option in the game? I've never been good at UI.

Hi,
I have no issues with you using any of this mod. As I normally create my Adjustment mods for most of the titles I like to play, and post them for others to use (I do this because I don't like a cluttered dialog area, as well I like to be able to see the dialog font clearly). Normally I include a few more features in my mods, but do this title only being a kinetic story...it's wasn't needed.

As well may I make a small suggestion that could help with gaining more interest? As many new dev's seem to ignore and miss an opportunity during their first release stage, with providing the future and never being added tags (this helps with the audition stage = which can grab interest by providing potential fans with more content details).
