RPGM - Succubus Covenant: Warlock Saga [Ch. 1] [Olympus]

If I want to be honest I hate Succubus Covenant generation 1. While not the worst game I've played on F95zone, It's a contender for one of my least favorite games on this site. It's a overly verbose, mostly boring, visual novel guised as an RPG made by a person who really wants to reinvent the wheel when it comes to RPG Maker hentai games but makes changes so odd and antithetical to what makes an RPG an RPG that it makes me yearn for generic RPG maker H game #42069. At least they don't waste my time and knows what the word satisfying mean.

With that Said, Warlock Saga is Surprisingly decent. While it suffers from Zion's trademark of overly verbose (borderline amateurish) writing, the Gameplay mostly avoids the traps that SC suffered from. Once again there is no level up system in the game which I still find really really fucking stupid but the addition of party members and the removal of the focus command (during succubus fights) really patches up the progression issue. and because of this, Battles aren't that much of a slog compared to Gen 1.

Another glowing review I have for this game is the art and scenes. Zion finally did a decent job in letting the scenes have an appropriate amount of screen time instead of letting go on for waaaay too long.

My biggest issues with the game mostly come to the Zion trademarks of needless dialogue that only serve as filler and the art. The Art isn't bad most of the time. But either Zion doesn't pay the artist enough for them to do their best or the artist just loves to cut corners where they can. A great example is the fire mage who literally has PNG flames compared to the MC who has properly drawn flames. Then there's the fact that characters lack stills to correspond to their expressions the Imp stands out because of this as she's not only very expressionless which contradicts her more animated personality but lacks life in her eyes outside of hscenes.

Overall I like this game because unlike Gen 1 it doesn't waste my time and provides a better argument for Zion's game design compared to again Gen 1

tl;dr Gen 1 sucks play this instead

Zion abandon gen 1 and focus your dev time on this trust me you've got something here Gen 1 is a lost cause

It is often said that sequels are not as good as the original, right ?

I play this game, "Warlock Saga" after having played "Cursed Forest", which I recommend you to do and...

    My god this universe !

To be able to evolve on another part of this world with its own culture, its history, its politics... It's just great !
Everything is revisited while remaining coherent and we find a scenario as rich as the one of the first volume with new characters very endearing with real personalities perfectly written.
Images always magnificently realized, a sound atmosphere worthy of the Thousand and One Nights and other Diablo 2 on this theme of the dunes...

In short, it's still a success and I recommend this game to all those who like mystical and exotic RPGMs where the lewd brings a depth to a game that would already be excellent without it.

I will not repeat my review of the previous game so I will stop here.
In my opinion these two games are to be seen as a whole. Completing each other to form a true mythology.

The fact that you can create, modify and train your team is probably my favorite part of this volume, the immersion is total.

Thanks, AGAIN, to the developer for this creativity that made me love this game experience.

    BRAVO Zion of Olympus !
    Hail to Domina !

This review is based on Chapter 1 ver 0.2.
    PROS:
    - The art is not half ass job, it is beautiful at least for me.
    CONS:
    - The battle is TOO SLOW. Even using Ctrl or just press the "z" or "enter" doesn't help much.
    - Can NOT ESCAPE battle... Maybe the devs like to play game with passion(hardcore player), but not me. I like to read story and continous battle without any means to escape is a very irritating part for me.
    - The battle UI... the decoration omg. For the first few battles I was really confused how the hell did someone create an rpg without even displaying the enemy's hp bar...turns out the decoration dimmed the hp bar so I did not even realize that it was there. I always use the lowest brightness so if it is not bright enough, I can easily missed something.
    - Still the battle UI, if we have 3 characters, then the damage we inflicted to the enemy can not be seen(behind the center character). Now this maybe just a small detail but it is annoying for me.
    - The dash movement speed is still too slow.
    - It seems the quest system still not working yet.
    - The empowered leaf succubus is....really annoying. Too much for me. If this is just the beginning of the game, I don't want to imagine the final boss.... For the dev, are you trying to make people enjoy playing your game or torturing people who play your game?

This game has fantastic art. Those asses are just amazingly thicc.
I also liked the plot. You are a mage in service to a secretive organization concerned with the "greater good" and engaging in some clandestine acts. Quite good. I would have given this a 5 but it gets dragged down by the RPG elements of the game.

Sex is mostly femdom, but not all.
Sex is mostly your hell sluts sexually devouring men who are not the MC (you are not forced to watch, it is unavoidable). You are nagged after every single combat if you want to watch your minions kill your defeated opponents sexually to restore their HP/MP. This is cucked grotesque snuff, and pretty tedious as you need to click [up][up][enter][enter] after every single battle to just skip it.

I think the Sex has way too much dialog considering it is just a single still image with two variants (tongue out variant, and glowing lightshow at the hole being used to indicate draining)
Dialog can be fast forwarded with W, but the sex has many screen flashes that cannot be fast forwarded. So it takes quite a while to finish each scene. Also the repeated flashes are headach inducing.

In the current version the game has an over reliance on using a walkthrough.
Playing without a walkthrough and with some bad luck you could end up with a very painful experience where you do most of the game with just your starter girl (imp). Possibly getting stuck into a rut where you must grind money to slowly upgrade your equipment thinking (incorrectly) that better equipment will help you progress past the next stage in the game.

There is no XP or leveling up. You can grind for slightly better equipment that gives a tiny boost to your stats, but that is mostly going to just frustrate you at the price scaling and how bad even the overpriced equipment is.
You are instead supposed to quickly fill up your party. Having a full party completely transforms the game. The amount of grind and walking back and forth to rest and resupply vastly decreases that way.
But the game does not properly guide you towards finding those extra minions.

You are supposed to explore the ice magic school in the starter town (which is hinted at) to find out about a mysterious ruin (orc dungeon) and then explore it. Rather than fighting your way through you should sneak past the orcs until you find a crystal that will give you an orc minion (no reason to think there is one there), at that point might as well find the missing students there and finish that dungeon. The dialog for the whole thing is somewhat misleading. The ice guild leader tells you to not go there, and you tell her you will just look and leave if it is dangerous.

The next step after getting the orc is to go to the main plot to unlock 3 sub oasis. Here you are advised to do the succubus first. But not where she is, nor does the game explains how you are supposed to search for her. Do not bother combing the area for her. Instead pop in and out of the maps for the 3 sub oasis'. In one of them the MC will detect her magic signature and state as such, that will help tell you where to search. Once you get your full party the rest of the game is fairly smooth.

Game is somewhat grindy even with a full party. But not overly bad about it.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

This game has some really great potential thanks to the fantastic art and story. With some fixes it can grow to a 5 star game.

It's... alright, I'm more annoyed by the game play side tbh, when your standard attack does more then your spells, what's the point of having them? Other then that, playing the bad guys is a unique and interesting perspective! But honestly, if he and our boy from the og fight, I will drag this warlock >:)

The dialogue all the way up through the first succubus scene drag on, and are incredibly engaging, to the point that during the first succubus if it wasnt for slight variants I would have thought the game was stuck in a loop.

I've done playing both games for the series and I am not ready to give my honest opinion for this game.

I'm going to give this a solid 4.5/5 (though I can't give 4 and a half stars, I rounded it up to 5)

Combat is grindy and mundane. Don't get me wrong, I love a grindy RPG, but the combat can use a bit of sprucing up. Combat becomes repetitive by the third wave of normal monsters. I suggest creating variations of the same monster that have different attack patterns and abilities and mix these monsters with the regular ones, so that the player is always engaged during the fight.

I love stories that follow the side of the antagonist. It gives us insight to their goals and the why's. It also focuses on a morally ambigious MC (at least for now) and we get to see the internal turmoil inside him as he fights between doing what is told of him or what is right.

For the characters, as one of the comments in the thread says, Kaalim is a CHAD. He is one of those characters that are set apart from normal erotic RPGM games here on the site, and he has a relatable personality. After the abuse he endured in his childhood, it isn't impossible to see such him act meek at times or have him break out of his shell and act like the man he is supposed to be.

Isis on the other hand is the woman we all know to be in control of everything. She's possessive yet caring (for Kaalim at least) and it's easy to see that there is more to her than meets the eye. She's not just an antagonist for the sake of being one, but rather, she has her own backstory that I'm sure will be explored in the future.

The art style is vastly different from the first. Is it bad? No. Not at all. I like the brighter colors, the character designs, and the sex scenes. Though I will agree with another review and comment that it would be better if Kaalim was 'solid' during his sex scenes with his summons much like how he is 'solid' when he has sex with his concubine.

Here is my two cents about this game (I'm not a professional critic and will never be, I'm just some guy who likes to play porn games in his spare time)

Story: Liking it so far. I can safely safe that this first chapter got me more interested in following the story than the 1st Generation did, though that doesn't mean the first game wasn't good. It certainly has its own charms to it.

Characters: Kaalim is a breath of fresh air in a lot of RPGM games that involved succubi (with most, if not all, of them looking like I'd be getting my front door busted in by the FBI any minute! What's up with that by the way?). Of course we have the lovely and all-powerful Lady Ishtar, and by gosh, after their first conversation, I was already rooting for a Kaalim x Ishtar scene in the future. She's intense, she's cunning, she's perfect for the role of mentor-turning-into-villain.

Art Style: Different from the first game and I love it. I like that the chracters have faces that show expressions along with their words and actions. The sex scenes are just as great as (or maybe even better than) the first game. Though, I do feel that Kaalim should be "solid" when he's interacting with his summons, him being transparent in their scenes just makes it feel like he's just another random npc that succubi and imps toy with instead of being their master.

Combat: Just like with the first, combat is good. There's more variety of attacks and magic than in the first game and the animation has had an upgrade.

Overall, I really like this game and I might actually start supporting Olympus just so this game doesn't go into the [Abandoned] tag of this site.

This is my first game review for series! (spoiler alert sadly since i wanna add in the good stuff that really got into it more lol)
Hello there, Finished chapter 1 yesterday and I can say its really a good game it has a lot of potential as well. As I played the first game its really great too despite the art being different I do prefer warlock saga a bit over the first game since you can have allies that will help you but regardless, this series is very enjoyable and I'd play all this lol. This game just did release, so there are some flaws but not much, for me the only thing I'm experiencing from it is when I fight like the bandits and mercenaries it kinda lags when selecting attack then the enemy I don't know if its the game or my laptop, when I fought the leaf succubus it didn't lag, that's my only issue but everything else is A-ok I still finished it, and as I have said from the last comment I made is the story is what really got me into it, since I played a lot of games that is story/Lore rich (like GFL, FGO, etc.) I also love the implementations of the Characters like Ishtar and the mentioning of Gilgamesh. Kaalim really developed into a really good character, at first he was like afraid of just giving blood for his first summoning then suddenly has a mission to poison oasis like he had second thoughts of doing it which really showed that he cared for others especially Renenet. As for the summons like Nemorosa (yes I agree with Zellthine its a bit of mouthful lol) I really like her design and her story for vengeance, it even surprised that A SUCCUBUS will thank a human. Zellthine, for me she had a bit of cold personality at first but as you progress and like "feed her" she will start to get closer to you which is cute. The orc is cool as well lol. For the Loyalty enhancements I enjoyed that a lot especially when both Nemorosa and Zellthine became very close with the MC also the change in their after you max them out is really a great addition. Art style is amazing even if its different from the first game like I said (especially for Nemorosa and Zellthine, they're pretty hot lol) so I think that's all, will wait for more of these games or the other chapters and such. Again thanks Zion along with the Artists Kain and ZafiryDraw for the wonderful game! Hope to see more and be able to support you guys in the future!

    A really, really, bad RPG.

The maps are huge time wasters. They are uninteresting, labyrinthic and impractical. They are ridiculously large to the point they slightly lag the game. Plus, they are not that beautiful.
Shops are really bad too. You don't know what you're buying and all have a stupid intro to waste more of your time. Plus they are ridiculously big and scattered around the map.
Fights are uninteresting. It's a painful grind. You beat one enemy then go sleep to recover your mana.
The story is BORING. It's trying it's best to kill your boner from the first minutes of the game while it should do the opposite. Show boobs within the first 2 minutes dammit! Good writing can be HOT but it obviously isn't. It's forgetting it's a fucking hentai and try it's hardest to tell you its story like it's a platonic Final Fantasy cutscene.
There is no option to skip the intro. There is no recollection room. Seriously, WTF?
There are people out there that have an idea how RPG maker porn games are supposed to be made and the mistakes to avoid at all costs. Maybe it's time to seek them out and save this game. Right now it can either become moist garbage or the good eroge it was meant to be.

Porn scenes are OK but the game is just... bad.

The drop in quality nearly gave me whiplash. This is why you shouldn't start new projects in the midst of already working on one. Although, I will compliment the notion of wanting to expand the universe and focus on a side storyline, as that is a great worldbuilding exercise. The writing is needlessly complicated and the artwork is worse though so I'll just hold out until the next part of the original game.

Mind you this is a first release and I am sure the game will improve over time.

    The positives:
World-building , characters and story are very enjoyable.

    The negatives:
Where the game falls flat currently is gameplay.
Its just wayy too grindy and reptetive right now.
Combat is very simplistic and is basically 80% of the game as of right now.

Because of that it feels more of chore to play than an actually being fun.
Its like waiting through the boring parts until the good part comes.
The game took me 7hours to beat and most of this time was spent doing the same exact sequence over and over.

The game should either focus less on combat or make an actual effort to make combat fun.
In the beginning combat is just way too hard and after youve grinded a decent amount every fight is winnable with the exact same strategy, so all you do is wait for the fight to done.

    Neutral:
The artwork is nice but not as nice as in SC: Cursed Forest.
Especially the sex scenes are lackluster in comparison. (Weird anatomy and not as exciting poses)

    Conclusion:
All in all I am still happy that creators such as Zion exist but this game is def more than a bit rough as it stands right now. I would wait for new releases that fix the aforementioned issues.

Warlock Saga is a spin-off series of the superb Succubus Covenant set in the same universe. Just like the original, Warlock Saga has amazing lore, storyline, characters and artwork. Zion's done it again!

I played this game for 3 hours and I really wanted to like it. I enjoy anything that has to do with Succubi, but this game has a lot going for it, and a lot wrong as well.

Here is my list of issues:

    1. The game is a massive grind. There is little to no progression besides grinding essences/bandit loot to equip the next marginally better item.

    2. Combat is repetitive and boring. It drags on for way too long and makes the player character feel underpowered.

    3. The starting spells feel the same. There is no discernable difference between the energy bolt, spark or snowflake spell besides doing slightly more damage to the plant monsters in the Leaf Succubi's lair. The cost of the spell is 3x the cost of the energy bolt but isn't worth it.

    4. Zellthine is a useless companion. I know that she is supposed to be an imp at the bottom of the demonic totem pole, but her mana drain is a useless ability as she is never low enough on mana to make it worthwhile to use. Mortal humans will heal her completely after battle, while she can't use it on other creatures who won't heal her after battle.

    5. The main character's special relic move is also useless. It takes 100TP to use but you'll never get that amount of TP through combat alone. TP is reset between battles, so you always start over fresh at the beginning of a battle. Even if the relic's attack is extremely powerful, it is still useless because it causes a superior tactic dilemma. If the easiest way to win is just to absorb hits to grind TP and then nuke them with the relic, then what is the point in the other skills?

    6. The 'healing' animation at the end of battle needs an option to be turned off, or more variations because after you see it the first time, you'll continue to skip it after the fact.

Edit: I forgot to mention the battle sequence against the Leaf Succubus. I didn't mind the frequent fights against her. I liked the idea of her powering up and you having to use different tactics to win. The issue is that you took it too far. Three is the magic number. You should have the player fight against a boss no more than 3 times in succession. I would also suggest that you add a bit more variance to the different 'forms' of the Leaf Succubus, and perhaps even weaker her a bit. She is the second summoning that the player gets, but I feel she is too powerful in her 'Empowered' form. This is further constipated by the fact that combat is a chore to get through.

Now - to what the game gets right.

    1. The lore of the world is interesting and I want to know more about it. I want to know more about the Warlocks and their history.

    2. The characters that have been introduced are also interesting enough that I care about their struggle. I want to see what they will do next in the story.

    3. The concept of a warlock signing a pact with demonic creatures is always interesting.

    4. The artwork is nice to look at.

This game obviously needs some work but I do see some potential.

    Goldspark1

First off, I have to say this game is remarkably well done. Just like with the previous Succubus Covenant game, this one is remarkably good.

First off, the artwork. The artwork in this game is amazing. Probably the best you will ever find on F95zone. Not only are the locations beautiful and full of detail. The sex scenes with the imp succubus Zellthine are absolutely beautiful. Some of, if not the best, I have ever seen. Just the Imp succus is better than most games final sex scenes. It even ties the sex scenes organically into the game where you can earn the respect of succubus under your command. This makes it feel like you don’t just have bullet sponges with you but unique characters all with their own unique personalities but unquenchable thirst.

Second, the combat is good. This game is a challenge, as it should be as people who play this game should be over the age of +18. You must retreat from fights you cannot win. You must go shopping for the right gear to accent the strengths of not just your MC but also you party. The only complaint I have combat wise is why are a group of three enemies all one enemy that does one attack (excluding specials)? It would feel more immersive if you have to prioritize each individual enemy based on their strengths and weaknesses. Do they have a healer? Do they have a tank? What summons do you have that you want to prioritize tanking damage from the enemy?

Now for story. This really divided me. For one, the story is amazingly detailed. It reminds me a lot of the Elder Scrolls where you can read books on shelves and learn about the world around you. Yet unlike boring games, the game never forces you to read these books to learn about the world. Also, the world is vast with all different factions all fighting for control. Though this is where I personally have a problem. I do not like being the villain of a story. Even if its for a greater good. In the first mission you get from your lady, she tasks you with poisoning the oasis’ in order to get them sick. Then move in and ‘magically’ cure them. This is a great story line as it shows the real depravity of war and how your character really is loyal to the one who took him in as a street rat. I just can’t stomach it and had to stop playing. I would rather face Kallim’s wrath and be tortured and banished than poison innocent people (Why not invent a potion that turns everyone into sex addicted sluts where they do nothing but have sex? Surely such a potion is easy to make in this world.)
