What's happening is crazy, not to mention how hypocritical it all is. Summer in the City is one of the healthiest and most sexually positive games out there; there's not an ounce of malice in it.
And do you think those group think rational?
Chewbacca Defence.jpg

And I hope Flip you find some way to still continue, as your game absolutely deserve its place.

Summer In The City Will NOT Be Coming To Steam
Hi everyone,

well, it's official. Summer In The City has been rejected by Steam and the store page has been removed, six days before launch, ten months after the store page went up, gathering 4000 wishlists. There were absolutely no indications beforehand that this would happen, despite being in contact with Steamworks' support team prior to this unfortunate decision. I am devastated, angry and in utter shock. This is one of these classic "worst case scenarios" people refer to.

Summer In The City's development will not end. But this new situation certainly makes it much, much harder to get by. I am now forced to check every avenue available to me, from seeking other storefronts to looking for a part-time job to keep me above water. I am eternally grateful for all of my and Summer's generous and amazing supporters. Without you, this project would be dead in the waters by now after having also lost roughly 40% of my monthly income due to the horrendous delisting situation on itch. Crazy times we live in.

It's a bad day, not gonna lie. A very bad one. But our Pumpkin will prevail!

I may have to postpone the release of version 1.0 for a few days, I'm not sure yet. It's basically finished but there are still a few things left to do over the next week. I will share my decision this upcoming Monday, August 25th. There are quite a few other things I also have to take care of now, which haven't been part of my schedule before the rejection. I apologize in advance should a delay become inevitable. Won't be long though.

Members who follow me for a while now know that I really, really don't like asking for financial support for myself. I want people to make contributions on their own terms by deeming my project worthy. But this is an out-of-the-ordinary situation, so I will swallow my pride today and ask you for your support for the time being. I'm well aware of the fact that times are tough for many people right now, so I don't expect much from it and totally understand. But if you can afford a buck or two without having to worry about an empty fridge at the end of the month, I'd appreciate it big time.

Again, a big fat hug for all supporters! Much love! I need a drink today. Drink responsibly!

Steam has always been trash to me, but it's getting worse now.
I hope you find another platform.
I'd recommend GOG.

Finally a reason to create a gog account. This is the first VN I see this upvote thing for so far while I read from some other devs that their VN got rejected right away or did not get any response from gog.

So I wonder why not more devs did use this tool.

Of course I voted, btw.

And YOU should do as well!

We should also ask the moderators and admins of the forum to put this support link on the front page and also at the opening of the forum! It's an incredible story what's happening and I unfortunately think that many other developers will encounter this kind of problem in the fairly short future. Support is essential!

Well, the main reason that prompted me to create an account there 9 years ago was the release of The Witcher 3, which was distributed via GOG, among other platforms. As for our beloved pumpkin, I also voted for it and took the opportunity to write a positive review about the Summer in the City.

Hi everyone,

what a weekend, eh?!

After having experienced one of the worst moments of my life and the most difficult situation for the project, you really came through for me and Summer. The words to express my feelings have never been uttered before nor have they even been invented yet. Your support and love left me speechless and filled me with joy rarely experienced before. Okay, okay... I'll stop being so cheesy. But I mean it, I truly do! I could go on for hours like this, but I'll spare you for now. Just know that I'll be eternally grateful for having the honor to be part of such an amazing community. Hmm... I can't stop, can I?

Alright, time to look forward and leave the past behind. I'm still a bit shook with everything that happened, but I'm already back to picking up the pieces and working on the final stretches of Season One. Besides finishing this season, I will also have to revise some plans I've made prior to this whole ordeal due to the sudden loss of the expected income I would have made on Steam. This hurts quite a lot because it restricts me from realizing some of the visions I had for the continuation of Summer In The City as well as cool things I had planned for the post release period. Let's rather say I'll put them into hiatus for the time being until I'm able to generate a steady income again. Let's hope the censoring situation will get better before it gets worse.

Let's also hope GOG will become Summer's new home base besides Patreon, SubscribeStar and itch. This would most certainly alleviate the worst parts of the situation. I'd like to quickly thank everyone who voted and especially those who left a story. I've read and I will keep reading every single one. I even teared up the other day after reading them. You're all so damn sweet! Oh, and in case you haven't voted yet... may I provide you boldly with a link?

Now, let's get to the new launch dates. Since Steam is off the table now, I thought rolling out the full game in the classic tiered release format would be the best course of action. It might be able to bring in new supporters which are sorely needed right now, and it gives me more time to polish things for the very final release version. I still have to get rid of some Steam specific code as well as adding stuff back in I had to remove besides other smaller fixes and taking care of things caused by the Steam fallout. So here are my plans for the rollout:
  • Shitballs Deluxe: September 5th
  • Shitballs: September 7th
  • Friends With Benefits: September 9th
  • Masters Of Shenanigans: September 11th
  • Besties & itch.io: September 13th
I hope this works for you all considering the circumstances.
Now it's time for me to dust off and head right back into work. But before I do that, I would like to thank all supporters and some very amazing people first.
Special thanks to DSquared for not only the biggest tip of my life, but also the very special . Special thanks to Hollandnavigator for setting up the GOG Dreamlist page, kicking off an amazing campaign. Special thanks to Spanky McGilligan and Knight Of The Lance for being friends and supporters sticking with Summer from the very beginning of this journey. Special thanks to Minnie for being super cool and supportive and extraordinarily generous. Special thanks to Deadpool and Frost Rabbit for spamming the meme and nsfw channels, thanks for laughs. Special thanks to all our dev friendos HanakoX, Amomynous Games, Asia The Magical Gurl, DogCat Studios, Paper Tiger Games, The Sugar Ray, Sexy Shelly, Xell. And basically everyone on our Discord server keeping the place alive. Always fun having a chat with y'all.

Well, I feel like you're going to hit me if I say "thank you" one more time. So, yeah... you're dismissed.

Much love! ❤❤❤

I don't see any release date either. However it may be, there is no official release date for GOG as of now. I won't be announcing a release date before the game has been 100% greenlit by GOG anyway. Not gonna make the same mistake as I did with Steam.

That's how gog galaxy displays games that are not on gog, but on other storefronts (because you can integrate games you have on other storefronts with galaxy) - so that release date was probably scraped from steam. If (hopefully when) the game gets a release on gog, that would supercede this other-platform page.

Well you learn something new every day. Not that I care about Steam or Galaxy...but you learn something every day. (y)

So Thanks again to Gorse for the lovely signature. Because of the rules of the signature request thread that mandates signatures having the F95 logo I did not go with imbedding the gog link in it but it certainly is eye catching!
