To be honest, they don't do anything. They are just there for show. The only way their level can affect anything in game is if the NPCs have specific traits. For example, the Musclehead trait makes that particular character more attracted to characters that have high physical stat. The other stats have similar traits but that's about it
after unzipping it you might have noticed a few folders whose names are... I dunno... more or less 100% similar to the ones on the main game folder? I'd say give a try to copypaste/move those folders, also, it's very recommended to accept the "overwrite files" prompt when asked.

Thanks, bit of an idiot when it comes to modding things like this and thats how i assumed it worked but i didnt wanna, y'know, assume.

my issue is both of these folders have abdata folders in them, wouldn't it be bad to overwrite them or should i just do them in order from 0 to 1

... huh, it should be only one "setup" folder, with the abdata folder in it, ignore the "update" executable since that thing is kinda unreliable, just drag the abdata and any other folder to the base install and overwrite files, if that killed the game, either is incompatible with HF patch (it shoudn't) or there are some updates missing... which HF patch should have, personalities included

The unnumbered setup just has an abdata folder in it while the other has all this in it -- should i just use the folder with abdata in it and ignore the rest you reckon?
Edit : this is being using the HF patch, as it reccomended installing these BEFORE using it.

Okay... I had some spare time and a fast SSD so I just made a whole new install folder and did some testing...
Copying the first setup folder that only has the abdata folder seemingly did nothing. Game boots but the DLC hasn't been added.
Wiped out those changes, and copied over the contents of "Setup1". This is what broke the application and now it won't launch.
So! I then did another clean version and copied over the first setup folder (with only the abdata) AND the update.up file along with the update app. Ran the update app, got the usual error in japanese script. I figured even though it appears to error out immediately, it might be doing something.
AND NOW IT WORKS.
