That's a very interesting statement... and I have no conclusion. Sorting by total sales on dlsite I thought I would see a clear pattern, but no. Excluding free titles, from what I can figure as the games with most sales...

For "vanilla" I'm just going loosely as heteronormative vaginal sex; including coercive and non-coercive. If you classify as any sex including subjective type kinks (size, color, atypical relationship, etc) then all top 10 fail to be vanilla in some way or another.

It's about the tone. If you keep the tone and dialogue light it doesn't matter if you are having a normal relationship with a consenting adult partner or training your loli sister to like sex(not exactly sure what this game is about) you are making a vanilla game. Vanilla games usually have boring dialogue and scenes straight out of pornhub. I have absolutely no idea what some people get out of reading the text in these types of games. Surely there are thousands of better stories in movies, books, tv shows and real games made by big studios.
