Then why not hire a real project manager? From the impression I get here of his success he can probably afford to.
because he hates project managers and corporate deadlines. He is running his business the way he wants it run, even if we don't agree on his decisions. It's his business to run it how he wants. You wouldn't want people shoving their noses in your business if you were successfully doing what you wanted to do for a living and made good money doing it. That's why.

Whether or not I agree with how he runs his business is beside the point. It is his business. Not mine. Not yours. His.

How did I forget about Aurelia?? Agree.
Aurelia is so good, because it's well done and pretty uniqe. Though it is probably true, that many people struggle to find pixel art really erotic (at least that's how it's for me).

That kinda highlights this whole problem. People won't, as far as I see it, easily spend a lot of money on games which feature anime-like art (because there are just sooooooo many of them, everybody has played like 50+ and because that stuff is just everywhere), on RPGM-games (because most of them feel the same and they almost always feel dated) and on games which feature art that's too simple. Once you exclude these factors, there's honestly little left. If you then exclude some niche'ish concepts (like some themed trainer games) the alternatives become even fewer. Sure, there are some notable exceptions, but really not that many.

These last pages summerize that problem quite well. There aren't many actual 2D alternatives to SS around in the western market and as long as that's the case, games like SS and WaL! will still do very well.

There are many great and at times quite uniqe games in development (like just off the top of my head House Chores/Siren's games in general, Demon Deals, Night Driver, Quickie or Aurelia) and I'm happy to even pledge to some of them, but if you look at it objectively, they simply don't have the potential of SS to make money with the general public.

Lol... really? Went from "name any" to super specific requirements with your biased personal ratingsystem you're adjusting on the go real quick... hilarious.

For the "name any" pot: Paradise Lust
Paradise lust has to be the most underrated game on this site while Summertime Saga is the most overrated one.

I'm sure Paradise lust will be doing somewhat well on Steam and Itch. DC has never monetized any other platform but Patreon and as such his earnings will certainly be higher over there, while some other games to spread them across 3 or 4 platforms.

I wouldn't be surprised if for example Remtairy made more money/month than DC at times across all platforms, but because of the split we'll never know.

I'd remove good girl gone bad and karryn's prison from that, but yeah, more or less that.

  1. Insexual Awakening
  2. Snow Daze
  3. Zombie's Retreat
  4. Town of Passion
  5. Four Elements Trainer
  6. Friendship with Benefits
  7. Project X
  8. Space Paws
  9. Katawa Shoujo
  10. Fucking Unteralterbach
Can even mention plenty of other unfinished games with more content and more quality. I'd say STS is actually bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality.
It's funny how revealing these type of lists are.

Paradise Lust is pretty average. The art doesn't really stand out and the plot is pretty basic. Mind you, average =/= bad. A perfectly average porn game does exactly what it needs to do, provide people with stuff to fap to.

Artificial intelligence will become a captivating addiction worldwide in a few years, while manual art will acquire a slightly vintage allure... i particularly enjoyed some of the renders from Dall-e

We are many years till AI relegates manual art to a vintage allure. The current tech has been overhyped, its good at certain things but has glaring weakness compare to even mediocre artists. I agree it will be an addiction soon though.
For AI to compete with good artists we will need quite a big hardware jump that is above the current slow incremental gains we are getting right now.

the problem isn't hardware, it is software.
throwing more hardware at the problem does not solve the fundamental issues of it being a mindless algorithm

To solve the problem I am talking about, getting results comparable to good artists we do need that hardware leap. The current approach can only go so far with software improvements.

A new approach would mimic the human approach to creating art and that is an order of magnitude more computationally intensive hence the need for new hardware. We are not even close to this.

The human approach to creating art is to have a sapient person actually understand what it is that they are trying to draw.
We have easily more hardware than a human brain. Not in every individual home PC, but we can network computers together to add up to it.
What we "lack" is the software implementation to create an artificial slave human on said software.

Even if we did manage to develop that software, it would be extremely stupid and immoral to create an enslaved artificial person just so that person can draw art instead of a real human.
Those artificial digital humans would want to get paid, and are prone to slave rebellions.

My understanding that cloud computing with the current hardware would not be enough for this task. This is because of the distances involved. Correct me if Im wrong.

I agree that there are deep ethical questions with these theoretical true AIs.

Well if he wants to make it more difficult on himself...It's the "successfully" part that is odd at this point. And it is the business of those who are paying him, especially any "whales" which I'm assuming he has. If I were one of them we would have had some frank communication by now. The ones he has must be extremely understanding.

Maybe I should check out this Aurelia though. Surprised at the dislike Insexual Awakening has here. It was my first porn game and I thought it was great, sexy art, good erotic situations. Could've done without the loli but otoh don't think I've seen a hot gilf in the games I've played since.

All this talk of hardware, software and AI systems of the future. However, this tech update stays well and truly rooted in the past. Something tells me that DC has already made his money and this particular tech update will never see the light of day.

I actually expect we will get a small partial tech update around of the month. The dev team would be crazy not to follow through on that at least. They have easy money rolling in, why jeopardize that.
There is a massive question mark on how long the full tech update will take though.

Until it gets neutered and you can't make anything 'offensive' with it. Like porn.

I'm not exactly sure of the timeframe but I think it's 18+ months of no physical updates is considered abandoned. Awesome that they are doing QA testing but that was only announced within a few days after receiving the abandoned tag here and on a few other sites. Correct me if I am wrong.
