I honestly can't understand why so many people keep crying about the save file compatibility. It was explained over and over again that in order to make the savegames compatible, the code of several already existing stories has to be reworked. After 0.18 (Jenny) only Erik's story seems to be left and everytime it has been up in the polls it didn't win, which means the majority of Patrons don't care about it. And since they are the ones giving DarkCookie money he listens to them.
Yeah, you could argue if he should put it up to vote at all or just do it, but it's his game so he gets to decide how to proceed.
And all those people complaining "I have to do everything from the start with each update" don't seem to read the full announcements, because DarkCookie and his team started providing a save file with which you can play the new content without replaying the old one:
Kinda like a lot of other creators do when they change so much in their games that old saves lose compatibility. In my opinion a fine compromise until the last of the old code is reworked.
I think that it is actually a pretty valid complaint. Especially if you are giving money. If not, then.. its free so.. you get what you pay for and all that.
For a major update, sure I can understand that making the saves compatible would be too much of a pain to bother with, but for a small update? Bug fixes? How much can the structure really change that you need to completely re-do everything.
I really like SS, but the save file issue is why for must people, it's only worth playing every couple major releases.
Yes, there are save files, but that is not the same as being able to start where you left off, which, I admit.. is actually kinda annoying.
It seems also like a lot of people take issue with someone having a negative opinion of something they didnt pay for. Of course they have a right to an opinion. Everyone does.
That doesnt mean anyone will listen to them or care, but don't act like you are the only person who is allowed to have an opinion.
