Yes, there has ... it is the conversion of all the art to 16:9 (which is done) and then the repositioning/posing of every one of the characters in the new format, as well as updating all the code that was written by several different coders into one style with proper tagging, flagging, variable tracking, etc. Essentially everything that had been done for 4 years prior to the start of the update was getting an update, techwise.

Was there not a new coder hired a couple years back to clean up the code already?
There are a few others that know better than I, but yeah - it looks like they hired one in early/mid 2020. That was almost 4 years after the start of development. There was at least 3, if not 4, regular updates since that hiring. The tech update ramped up after v0.20.9 a year ago.
There are definitely people who just want to look at the pictures (I've done that myself on a few games).

Well, that did pretty much happen. The relaeses became a lot better in the meantime and saves started working years ago. It just seems like they realized pretty quickly that polishing the old turd wasn't enough and now it looks like it's bascially going to be a "new game".
