I don't think that it's a big project for me a big project for example would be the game Being a Dik because you have choices that leads to different outcomes you have minigames like SummertimeSaga but in my opinion more fun you have character stats you have love intrest stats your stats will determine the flow of the story some characters will give you different dialogues depending on your actions and other stuffThanks for the reply.
As a IT girl that coded a bit in Powershell and very little in Python, I can still think of a few reason someone would remake their whole code.
In a project that big, you have a looooot of dependancy (things that call for other things) or "tag" (name depending on the langugage) to modify a lot of entries at the same time with just a modification of that tag definition.
As a simple example for those no familiar with it (not you it seems since you said you coded a bit) : whats allow the dev and the modders to quickly change how a "mom" gets turn into a "landlady" is because everytime they are called in a dialog, it's not "mom" or "landlady" but something like "$mom" or "$momname" if we are talking about the name you choose when prompted at the beginning. You are changing the "tag" definition by your own input.
That being said, this idea can go waaayy deeper than that and when you build a code with "beginner" knowledge, it's bond to happen that years later, you have way more skills to do thing cleaner, with less bugs, clutter. A lot of time, the way you did things with partial knowledge of what you were doing can cause an impossibility to do something new, thousands of lines down in your code, and you have to rethink a whole function.
I suppose the devs hit that point with new content they wanted to add and couldn't with the way they built the game until then.
They could also just want to do a better experience overhaul with their new knowledge.
Or, they were close to finishing their project or out of new ideas to add and had to keep the money coming to live...
in this game's case you almost have the same things ,free roam, a day system, minigames but other than that it isn't that complex I didn't saw the games code but from my opinion the game has a day system a free roam system that can anyone easily watch tutorials on youtube and character interactions with choices that almost doesn't matter sure you have some characters like Jenny with submisive and dominant route and you have characters like Mia where you have to choose wich route you are going to follow but again that code isn't hard at all
And don't forget that he doesn't do incest anymore so the names that he put's are the characters names Debby, Jenny and so on not Mom Sister and Aunt so he doesn't have any reason to change their names but let's say that he wanted to do it still it's a very simple task
I agree with you maybe the devs code was messy and they wanted to make it more orginized but again it would take a week at max to finish this not 2 years I don't think that it was the code that delayded the game this much I think it's something else but at this point I can't defend the dev my thoughts are that he is milking and that's fine by me I don't pay him I get the game for free and most of us are and honestly I don't care about others paying for the game I
