Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.5258] [Kompas Productions]

Where'd all the content go? Where'd all the planned content go? Is it rose tinted glasses that make it so I can't remember why I enjoyed this game or is it the fact that it looks worse and decided to pull a beginner dev excuse of "we're working on the mechanics".

The other download is worth 4-5 stars depending on how much you value porn over plot, but this one? Needs a new thread for all the honest 1 star reviews and an abandoned tag on the old one.

I remember big titty goths and other assorted hair colors and said memories have been reworked thanos snapped.

This used to be one of my most anticipated games when an update came out. Now it is losing content, under the guise of a performance update. I started a new game and what little content is there doesn't seem to trigger properly. I can't get Debbie or Jenny's content to progress the way it used to. It's good that they finally added/unlocked new locations on the map, and the game *does* seem to run better since the engine update, but ultimately there isn't much to do any longer, the minigames are gone, the interaction with other characters is very limited. It doesn't seem like it would take much effort to port the existing content to a new ren'py version, so I'm not sure what is happening there.

For game that exist more than 8 years game have too little content. Art style not that bad, but could be much better.
WHat about mini-games? they sucks.
Game have grind elements, useless as i think, but you can turn em off.

Probably one of the best games on this site it has an extensive amount of content, and as far as I am aware haven't added any content that nobody asked for. The diverse cast of characters gives many options for all the different 'Flavors'. Not to mention that I really like the art initially I didn't like the design of the main character but with time it really grew on me just an unassuming nerdy looking guy who is in fact a Gigachad and not even the meme type. If there are any things I don't like about the game its probably to minor for me to even remember let alone write about in this review.

This is the holy grail of H-games. Variety of kinks, age groups and ethnicities in characters, a ton of story and scenes to get through, intuitive quests with a good hint system, and undeniably the best animations and art in any 2DCG H-game. Limited to no amount of dumb BS (creepy character actions, sad endings, bloated storylines). IMO, big props for no CNC, loli or bestiality.

There's a ton of discourse, especially concerning their Patreon and update scheduling. My 2 cents as a [profession redacted] is that the dev started out extremely enthusiastic and with zero experience coding large projects. Either way, not a scam imo, just mild incompetence and likely waning motivation. The sheer volume of content sets it apart from other famous Patreon H-game blunders.

I have to say this is the best game I've played out of all the porn games. The best is that the characters are well drawn in 2D (which I prefer to 3D), that the story is good, the characters are good, the town is nice in the story and that it is point & click, i.e. you have stats, money and you can interact with click people and things you also have mini games. The story begins with the fact that you are an 18-year-old young man whose father died in an accident, and how, after a month-long break, you return to school and find out that you are about to fail a year. The goal of the game is to improve your grades, find out how your father was killed and find a girl for the prom. Basically, the main part of the story is finished in the alpha version (you find the father's killer), but the other details in the game are not finished. For example you can't interact with all the things yet, you can't give other things from the sex shop to Jenny for her cam show, you can't give things from the Cupid shop to any girl if she's not in the task, some characters can't be pregnant (eg Roxxy) , you cannot interact with your children who are sent to kindergarten (for me its not fulfilling), the prom is not yet incorporated into the game, Judith has almost no content and some other characters also don't have the content, some things are not coordinated well, for example Rump who laters ends up in prison, you can see him on mass or you can also see Mia's parents together at the mass, regardless of what you might have taken the nun route, there are still many things that could be added and fixed to make the game even more real. Basically it's a phenomenal game that everyone should play. For the ending of my review, I'm afraid that the game will be abandoned, considering that it has been in production for 8 years and many more things need to be added and corrected, but if it is abandoned, the game is worth every penny to play it even though it is unfinished. You will probably need about 4-5 days to read all the stories and go through all the content in it which is much more than most porn games has it. If the game will ever be finished I would gladly buy it.

Just a short review.

This game was my first introduction on AVN, I started playing this around 2017 when my friend mentioned me about it jokingly. It was a good game and it still is. The story, characters development, free roam gameplay, art style, etc are so good, but I had to give this game two stars because I dislike what DarkCookie does to this game for the past two years.

He doesn't do anything for that amount of time, the progress always stuck around 80% and if it goes up, he will put it down to 80% again for some stupid reason. This "tech update" seems unecessary, he put a poll years ago regarding to it and asked his people to vote for tech update instead of progressing the story even further. It was a mistake, big mistake.

I swear man, we'll get GTA VI or perhaps even Half Life 3 before the tech update comes out.

Oh yeah, it's 5 out of 5 game if you're new in the AVN industry. It was the pinnacle of 2D AVN out there since 2016.

Edit: I just heard about the new update. Basically DarkCookie just spent two years to reboot this game. It doesn't make any sense, this game doesn't need a reboot. What makes it worse, this new reboot just consisting three paths so if you want to play the entire reboot, it means that you need to wait for another few years. This is ridiculous, I'm gonna lower it to one star instead.

Great game of its time. Average game at the moment.

Pros:

• This is a big game with lots of characters to enjoy.

Cons:

• This game had some nice visuals at the beginning of development, but the new art style looks like shit to be honest, maybe not the art style itself more the character design.
• I don't like how the writing and the story aged. The story itself is what makes me want to give this game a 2 star rating to be honest.
• I highly doubt that this game is enjoyable or even playable without a walkthrough.
• This game features boring and very time consuming grind.
• It's not exactly the con, but I have to point out the extreme vanilla nature of the latest updates, this game is basically sterilized.
• As usual with harem games, there are too many characters; too many new characters to flesh them out and make them unique and interesting. That's true from both a design and story perspective.

Right now the development is in a milking pace, so I have no hope that this game will change for the better at any point in time, unfortunately.

Edit: This thread has been updated to v21.0.0 wip.4468. Now this game has no content at all. I have to change my rating to 1 star now, sad. The art update sucks, by the way.

This game may have warranted a 4 some years ago. It was at the vanguard of great 2D adult games. Sadly it just isn't at the very top any more other 2d games have surpassed in every department apart from maybe length. Some people love the art for me its below average. Still it will be good to get a finished game and maybe that will warrant an extra star.

I edited my score down to 1 because the amount of content was drastically reduced. The version is not worth playing and wont be for a long time. Could edit my score once it catches up.

One of the best games on this site. Sure, they're not updating the game that often but considering the quality of the game it's understandable.
I really love the art, the animations are quality and the game really feels alive, you get really immersed in the game's world.
Some characters have really interesting development and storylines.

This game has been on the "pre-tech patch" since i started playing porn games. Pretty pathetic. Roxxi,sis, emo are all good faps for me, and i love the overworld map and general aesthetic but honestly most of the characters and renders arnt really worth looking at, at least to me most characters are not even sexually appealing. If it was a perfect world and this was a completed and fully already fleshed out game i might give it a 3.5/4 but that will be in 10 years so

I just had to jot down my thoughts on this game because it's easily one of my top favorites! The story-line is just fantastic, and let's talk about the art style – it's totally my jam. I'm seriously hooked! Immersing yourself in the game is a breeze, at least for me.

Honestly, I can't sing the praises of this game enough. If you're in search of a game with an awesome story and a stunning art style that really pulls you in, this is the one! It's an absolute must-play.

The game is good and I can somewhat recommended it . After last playing through this game four years ago, I can definitely say it has improved a lot. Now, having a story and having finished it, it was fun to go back and play it But it feels lacking in many ways. With the amount there making I was hoping for a better leap in content after all these years for the main characters but it just wasn't there.

That's a pretty damn good game and I understand why it makes so much money.

The relationship evolutions are very well made a slow pace, its a slow burner and I love it.

Of course there is the incest part, which is awesome.

This game art is quite good but there is better in some other game but I don't mind since the game has lots of minigame and long gameplay.

What used to be a unique game (has incredibly unique artwork) has now dwindled into a mediocre game. Writing is weird sometimes but is solid. Characters are okay. However, game has become a weird annual cashgrab generic harem game

A former shell of what it used to be - A nice incest game with lovely artwork and interesting characters.

Pros:
- Still have interesting artwork, mostly the backgrounds
- Story still works quite well honestly

Cons:
- Impossible to get a boner with these character models
- 'Improved' character artwork make them look ugly and unsexy
- Characters have become uninteresting, and it just feel like yet another Harem game
- Game update once pear year, if you are lucky (for 80.000$ a month)

it is a neat game with a large, fun and diverse cast, a good atmosphere
but the current attitude is not acceptable anymore
they dump more and more characters with no purpose while ignoring or delaying the original characters; push for updates nobody wanted; no obligation despite the immense amount of money they make

Summertime Saga [v0.20.16 Pre-tech]

I remember playing this game for the first time years ago and had to revisit it because I forgot a lot of it.
It's kinda crazy that this game is heading into its 8th year of development, but it's no surprise when it's still seems to be very profitable.
SS was a great game for its time, still has a good art style and offers some hot characters.
But one thing that sticks out the most is how badly this game aged when it comes to gameplay.
There are things in this game that are just complete no-go's in today's XXX games.
If you don't want to get lost, then you'll need a walkthrough that you can get on this site or on the SS wiki.
There's way too much filler that involves pixel hunting, stupid minigames and paths that feel pointless.
Having to read the sheer amount of text is incredibly tiresome.
I don't remember there being black bars on both sides. It looks terrible.
Having no rollback is just mindblowingly stupid.
Making money is incredibly grindy and annoying.
The story progression goes at a milking pace, and there are too many teases.
I appreciate the amount of content, but then again, for a game that has been there for so long, you would think there would be more, and the game to be upgraded to 2023/24 standards. But I guess we'll see that in the next 8 years?
All in all, this is just not fun to play anymore, which goes to show how far games have come.

It's a boring and very tiring game. I played it for a long time but at some point I stopped because I couldn't understand what I was doing and what I was supposed to do. The game doesn't give you any guidance on how to progress through the missions. You can only go so far on your own. Since it's still not a complete game, a lot of content is missing and limited. I can't waste my time with a game that takes so much time and rewards so little in return. Whenever I want to complete a task, I can't be bothered to look for a guide on the internet. The game has to present this in an immersive way in the gameplay without distracting the player and moving the story forward. I can't get inside the head of the developer of this game, which at every point of the game feels like I know what I need to do.
