I thought the tech update was just for compatibility with newer devices or whatever, not a whole remake.

The game runs a lot better and that's about it. People might be hating on the art because they're fed up with DC but it IMO some parts have been slightly upgraded.

I completely agree, it doesn't make sense, the MC should at least take advantage of the fact that she is desperate for money, but instead he is completely dominated...

The trouble is, in game design terms, Jenny doesn't have a cash sink. There's nothing using up her funds to keep her hooked and coming back. If she doesn't feel like fucking MC, she doesn't have to, all she does with the cash is buy expensive toys with it. Not like she's paying Debbie rent or going to college. She just lounges around the house all day eating free food.

A better way to resolve her storyline: MC fucks her until she becomes pregnant. Jenny refuses to tell her mom whose it is and they have a huge fight; Jenny moves out. (I wouldn't go so far as Debbie kicking her out; Debbie's too nice for that.) Jenny refuses to come home bc she's stubborn and won't admit error. But now she's living in a cheap apartment with no life skills. Her porn channel is doing OK though and she still has an income. Just not much... and her fans DEMAND the pink mask guy with the huge wang. They boycott her channel when she tries to do other acts. Jenny is ultimately forced to come crawling back to MC and he uses the opportunity to renegotiate for free sex on demand (or maybe at least on filming nights). This would be how you initially get her under your thumb. After THIS point, over time you could have her soften and have feelings develop. But first her bitchiness would have to be broken.

Overall, pretty underwhelming update, but I went in knowing it would be. I do think that what they set out to do in the update, they did pretty well. It does run much smoother than the old version and aside from some wonky Jenny images, the updated art looks nice as well. Its also been kind of a nice walk down memory lane playing all this old shit, even if they are some of the game's weaker storylines.

One thing I don't understand though is the amount of vitriol over how much money he makes. Unless you're somehow still giving him money on patreon it always comes off as bitterness because he lucked out and got rich.

I last played this game several years ago when the "tech update" was announced.

Completely forgot about it until today. The instant I saw it had been updated I thought to myself "huh, Summertime saga.... Why is it being updated now? Has is it become yet another patreon scam?"

He's a guy who scrapped his game after 3 years or so to re-do it and then roughly 3 years later ended up with the same amount of content he originally had, but it's still a bug-ridden mess because he never learned anything during that period of time.

He has improved the loading times, yes, but it's not an engine created by him, he has used rempy, does that justify the long waiting time for the update, no, it doesn't help much that you have erased 85% of the game, some new things he has added to Jenny's story, but I think he could have incorporated them perfectly without the use of the new engine. It probably sounds very fanciful, but the best thing would be for him to continue his development of the game with the old engine and with intervals of time to release updates in the new version, it seems to me that he has enough money to be able to have a second team transferring the content quickly to the new engine.

Btw has anyone else noticed the filesize for last old edition and for tech update "leak" edition is almost identical? Bit over 1.11Gb either way. Has anyone looked into the files to see if maybe all the content is still in there and it's just "locked out"? Might not function properly with the new engine though even if you could enable it.

Do you think he works for EA/Ubisoft?
I highly doubt everything is locked away like on-disc dlc.

If you're that curious I believe you can use UnRen to extract everything. Then just check in the renpy folder for the images.

I wonder if anyone ever compiled a full list of devs that started off with very promising projects and then managed to get the entire community turned against them. Long stretches between content updates is nothing new. There are devs out there like Tinkerer who only update maybe 3-4 times a year but for the most part people still like them.

This isn't me defending DC. 2 years and this is what he comes out with is just wild LOL. I'm just spitballing, why do some devs get a pass for long times between updates and others don't? Is it communication about what they're working on, the size of the updates, the perceived quality of the work, or maybe how difficult the content is to make?

I think people keep bringing up the money he's making because they're pissed he's getting away with it.

And honestly, i'm also starting to wonder how this actually works. I've seen so many crowdfunded games going radio silent once they reach a sizeable patreon income and the backers just keep on giving the devs money despite the absolute lack of development for years. And it's certainly not limited to porn games (cough yandere simulator cough)

Sad Crab (innocent witches) comes to mind. theres about a billion others but innocent witches is the only one i really care about because the project looked AMAZING at the beginning but the dev has made barely any sex scenes so far and they're years into the project.
