If you want to call ~2 posts on average a day on this forum obsessive, that's really up to you. I'd agree it amounts to quite a bit of time, but then again, it's a hobby and it's ok to spend a bit of time a day. I mean, it's not like your average here is that much different and at least I'm not spending my time on hating on people.

Could you please explain how you're doing this in practice?

I haven't played SS since 0.18.5 (1+ year ago) and I'm thinking about maybe trying 0.20.5 but then I hear 0.20.5 wil just be part 1 of what 0.20.5 was initially supposed to deliver so a 2nd part (0.20.8?) will likely come 4 months from now to wrap up the main story. My problem is I do NOT want to replay SS from the start. I did that for 0.18.5 and it was a gigantic waste of my time that took 8+ hours just to sit through content I already knew from my play-through of 0.16.1 from 2 years ago.

I can't fathom how you could skip through hours of game-play in 15 minutes especially since holding down CTRL to FF through dialogues you've already seen before doesn't work in SS due to the galactic genius that is DC.

The game isn't linear after all. All you'll have to replay is the intro/tutorial which is the story that happens in the first day. After that you simply play the new content and you ignore the old stuff. None of the last updates required any old content and the smaller ones, which built on old content, were usually compatible (like 0.19 to 19.5 for example).

There was for example basically zero need to replay 0.16. Roxxy or any other content for Jenny's 0.18/0.18.5. You basically did that for your own pleasure.

Everything else should be playable "from day one". At times there are some very minor dialog changes depending on whether you've played content or not, but in these cases you'd miss one version anyway and they are more or less meaningless for the game at the moment.

More connections may come later once the game is more or less done, but for now and for the foreseeable future it's gonig to stay like this.

I vaguely remember there were at least some dependencies between routes (like you couldn't get a bike if you didn't have enough progress with Aunt's garden) at least in the beginning. Ironically, my second major problem with SS (the first was that perversions are vanilla and DC bent for Patreon) is just how disjointed it feels when you play all routes simultaneously like I did. A LOT happens everywhere in the world but everything feels deeply artificial in the sense that nothing you do on one route has any interesting influence on another despite golden opportunities at every step.

MEGA-ironically, DC's whole argument for dragging everyone through the misery of eternally broken saves was precisely that he wants the freedom to change routes with every new major version, presumably to tweak route-inter-dependencies as new routes are added.

I mean, it's a very valid point but it should be a somewhat temporary issue. As long as the game is in development and as long as new stories are coming in and old stories may change again in details due to reworks, it's a lot of work to reconnect and reblance things again and again. I'm pretty sure the game will feel better in that regard once it is more or less completed.

Hm, I don't think he said that in that way. Major interdepencies have always been off the table util the very end, but the point was more that updates often change stuff in all kinds of stories (like characters appearing in new, different locations at certain times of the day, the rig system gets new art, etc.) which until recently seems to be something the save system couldn't deal with properly so you'd get bugs everywhere and errors.

I was quite disappointed that for the longest time they didn't at least provide official resume-saves (like Noell does with Adventures of Willy D) but then I noticed they were provided except I only saw them starting with 0.20.1 (the very latest version).

It would be decent for them to provide resume-saves with every new major version but... since AFAIK they didn't explicitly commit to that kind of support you never know what the deep DC genius decides to be normal.

Well... I was wrong when it comes to 0.18.5, I wish I noticed that official save.

The first time I noticed an official resume saves was for 0.20.1 and I'm pretty sure there was none provided with 0.20.0. I'm not so sure about 0.19.x after your example for 0.18.5, though.
